*~* Muggles, Welcome to the Burrow! *~*

No.

Spoilers Highlight Below:
I was so sad that Dobby died. I liked that elf.

I hate for this thread to die! It's been around for so long, and has been so much fun.

But the other HP thread is hoppin' right now, because people can discuss the book.

When is it OK to talk about the book on this thread (I'm talking about spoilers, of course)?

I Finished the Book!

But, I will stay away from this thread for about another week so I wont spoil anything for anyone!

See ya Later Muggles! :wizard:

I think it would be okay to discuss the book now. We're hardcore HP fans and we've all probably finished the book by now. It's been out for two weeks and JKR has done all kinds of interviews so it's hard to avoid spoilers at this point.

So...I'll start...

I cried at every death, especially Fred and Dobby.

Hi there,

I am a huge Harry Potter fan and I would love to join in on this thread! I read the first few pages and you guys sound like a fun group. I don't think I have the willpower to read through your entire thread so I thought I would just introduce myself and join in on the discussion. Looking forward to chatting with you all!

SO did I, but I cried harder at the sappy ending...it was a bit too cliche, but a good way to end the series.

Dobby's death brought a tear to my eye too.

The part the affected me the most, though, was the chapter about Snape. When I saw the picture of the three children that begun the chapter, I teared up. To see him so young trying to fit in was heartbreaking. Then his story just got sadder and sadder.

I also was touched when Kreacher started dressing nice and cooking Ron, Hermione and Harry delicious meals. It shows you what a little kindness can do.

Okay. I admit it. I cried at everything in this book. Seriously. Everything. From Hedwig's death, to Ron leaving their camp, to Ron coming back to their camp, to Fred's death, to Harry walking into the forest to his death, to Snape's sad, sad life, to literally everything in this book. It was a great series of books and I am really sad that it is over.

I am now rereading the whole series. I am sure I will have lots of questions and you guys have such insight it will be great to get your input.

I agree with the above posters this book was a real tearjerker for so many reasons. Hedwigs death really hit me hard as it just seemed so sudden and unexpected. I never even imagined that Hedwig would be killed. I guess it makes since that she did as he would not have been able to trek all over England with his owl but it was still so so sad.

Ron leaving was also very sad. I felt so bad for both Harry and Ron. Harry was forced into this impossible situation and it must have been so incredibly stressful and then for them to be isolated from society for so long and not know what was going on in the world and what had happened to the people they know and love. I can almost understand how Ron gave up on them for a moment. He must have felt so guilty for abandoning them when he found out that he could not get back to them.

The death of Dobby was terrible. He loved Harry so much that he sacrificed his life to save him. That is one of the amazing things about Harry, he inspires such love and loyalty from those who know him that they are all willing to follow him and sacrifice themselves for him because they all believe in him and know that he will not let them down. Dobby's funeral was so sad and I loved the inscription that they left on his tombstone. IT was very touching.

That's all for now. I'll right more of my thoughts later!

I loved the book - just like everyone else! I think JK Rowling did a great job finishing it all up for us... Was I left wanting to know more about those 19 years between the final chapter and the epilogue - of course! I am hoping though, that she follows through with the plan for the encyclopedia of the characters/places and that it gives us all those details that we are desiring.

I cried, no sobbed, through parts of the book. I was shocked by some deaths (Hedwig, Moody) and situations that happened (Ron leaving the camp...) I was joyful as I read of Ron and Percy's returns and for a happy ending for the *major players.*

Surprisingly, it was Snape's death that caused the most sadness for me. I began to sob as the chapter closed with his death, and continued right through the viewing of his story, and Harry's subsequent realization of mortality and his triumphant march into the forest.

I can honestly say, that this final book of the series moved me, and I fear that it may be a long time before another book causes me to have such feelings and emotions for the characters held within.

I think that's what affected me so much - I can't imagine getting this emotionally involved in another series like this, so it was sad to get to the end of this one. My son grew up with this series and I joined in on the way so it's like yet another bit of his childhood is over.:sad1:

I think that when Dobby died, a part of me died as well. I loved that elf. :(

And The Prince's Tale was so tearjerking. And the entirety of the part where his loved one's are going with him through the Forest.

And Kreacher's Tale!! That was so well written. Bravo to Joanne K. Rowling for a wonderful book, though it was so sad!!

Report: J.K. Rowling Writing Crime Novel

Aug 18, 8:58 PM (ET)

By DAVID STRINGER

LONDON (AP) - J.K. Rowling has been spotted at cafes in Scotland working on a detective novel, a British newspaper reported Saturday.

The Sunday Times newspaper quoted Ian Rankin, a fellow author and neighbor of Rowling's, as saying the creator of the "Harry Potter" books is turning to crime fiction.

"My wife spotted her writing her Edinburgh criminal detective novel," the newspaper, which was available late Saturday, quoted Rankin as telling a reporter at an Edinburgh literary festival.

"It is great that she has not abandoned writing or Edinburgh cafes," said Rankin, who is known for his own police novels set in the historic Scottish city.

Rowling famously wrote initial drafts of the Potter story in the Scottish city's cafes. Back then, she was a struggling single mother who wrote in cafes to save on the heating bill at home.

Now she's Britain's richest woman - worth $1 billion, according to Forbes magazine - and her seven Potter books have sold more than 335 million copies worldwide.

In an interview with The Associated Press last month, Rowling said she believed she was unlikely to repeat the success of the Potter series, but confirmed she had plans to work on new books.

"I'll do exactly what I did with Harry - I'll write what I really want to write," Rowling said.

The office of Rowling's literary agent, Christopher Little, was not immediately available to comment late Saturday.

I hate to disappoint, but I read recently that Rankin was just joking. He was at a speaking engagement and he was pretty sure everyone in the room took it as a joke. I guess the tone is off when reading it rather than hearing him say it.

Hedwig dying was definitely a sad part for me. I think it was then that I realized this book was going to very, very different. I missed not being at Hogwarts, but to go through another year at school just like the other books would not have been the proper send off to the series. Well, that's my opinion anyway.

I also thought there were some really funny moments, especially with Ron putting the moves on Hermione, and the relationship between the main trio was just so fascinating. Constantly made me think if I knew anyone that could be my Ron and Hermione (or Harry and Ron or Harry and Hermione).

Did everyone go to a party on July 21st? I work at a bookstore, so it was madness for me, but fun, bittersweet madness.
