*~* Muggles, Welcome to the Burrow! *~*

I actually read about both of his parents and they have both been involved in the business in the past. Alan Radcliffe is a literary agent who was in a film awhile ago playing a young priest. His mother, Marcia Gresham (Jacobson) is or was a casting agent and also appeared in some films.

No, I can't really think of any others either. I don't know...maybe it's because he just exudes confidence and a maturity beyond his age. In all the interviews I've ever seen with him he's just always seemed really beyond his years. I put way too much thought into that answer :rotfl:
I agree with that statement. But he still is a bit "kid like" in that goofy way 17 year old boys are. (I should know, one lives in my house).

I've seen some posts on the other three threads about the publicity pics of Dan. Some were a little harsh, IMO.

I am so glad he got the confidence and self-esteem to have done those shots, without having to "get a body" or "find some self-tanner". I think he looks fine, exactly as I'd expect the character he's playing in Equus to look. I am delighted he decided to take that part in order to stretch and grow as an actor.

Way to go, Dan!:thumbsup2

IMHO, there's a big difference between that and being total "stage parents" that force a kid that probably doesn't want to be in that business into it. I think (and hey, I don't know the guy so I could be completely wrong) that Dan really does enjoy acting, and knows how to market himself to reach more than just one audience. I've gotta say though, I'm definitely loving those photos, and I totally agree with whoever said that they really know how to crop:mad:

I agree totally about his parents. I didn't post that about them being involved in acting to mean that I thought they were 'stage parents'. I was just posting it because I found it interesting. Obviously Daniel is the most successful as far as acting goes.

And it was me that said the photographer really knows how to crop a picture.:rolleyes1

Is it time to get back to chatting about the book? Have we talked enough about Dan's nudie cutie bod?

Maybe :rolleyes1

Just kidding! Yeah, we can get back to talking about the book if it's cool with everyone else. Any topic suggestions?

I support Dan. He's an actor. Frankly, this is a very good idea to separate him from the HP role.

I'll throw out some possible topic ideas:

The idea of family in HP and how it affects each character. There are lots of different family-structures in HP and each character seems to be affected differently. There are many ways this could go. For example: does family dictate if you end up good or bad? How does a family's love (or lack of it) protect? Can you really sever ties (Percy!) and still have a clear conscience? Or maybe how Harry's parent's actions are still affecting him, esp. the idea that Snape and Wormtail have a life-debt.

I'm a librarian and I'm all about banned books so... that woman in Georgia trying to ban HP books. The Washington Post named her Idiot of the Year for 2006. We could also discuss general HP controversy (outside DR's nakey play ;) )

The idea of love. We know Harry has love- this is the one thing V doesn't have-- but how will Harry use it to defeat V? Hug him to death? Smother him with kisses? ;) Forgive him? We've touched on the idea of love in relation to Snape but what about the other characters? Harry/anybody, Ron/Hermionie, Seriously, though, love is intangible and uncontrollable so how will it be harnessed and used?

Literary archetypes and symbolism and how they are used and presented in HP. (Excuse my English geek coming out ) Is this a Savior story? What heroic archetype is Harry? Dumbledore? Voldemort? How significant is the phoenix symbolism? What are the real-life historical parallels? Social commentary?

Speculation on who will die and who will live. JKR has said she gave one character a reprieve and killed two more. Who are they?

Figuring out past clues in the books and trying to spot others. For example-- the cabinet in Borgin and Burkes, the bezoar and wolfsbane, and even Dumbledore on Chocolate Frog cards with Nicholas Flamel-- these things have all proved to be significant later on. What else have you noticed? What do you think will be used in book 7?

Any of these would be good. Or not. I won't be offended if we discuss something else! :)

Anybody else have ideas?

I can blather on about this one. Since you are a librarian, I'm sure you know Madeline L'Engles A Wrinkle in Time, which is one of my favorite books and which I am making my daughter read now and will be so upset if she doesn't like it!

Anyway, I see a similar ending for Harry. He can't love (forgive) Voldemort, just as Meg can't love IT. But he could forgive Snape, as Meg could love Charles Wallace. And in forgiving Snape, I think Harry will allow Snape to do what Harry can't - which is kill Voldemort.

Harry, with his pure and intact soul, cannot kill anyone, not even Voldemort. When he heard the prophecy, he was as aghast that he would have to kill as he was that he might be killed.

I also think that on the way to the final confrontation with Voldemort, Harry's ability to love - and to be loved - will help him find and destroy the horcruxes.

Remember how Voldemort always prefers to work alone? He pits his followers against each other, but he doesn't trust any of them. But Harry trusts, and Harry is willing to accept help (finally - he went through a rocky patch in OoTP).

So Harry learned the lesson that Voldemort did not. You have to love, you have to risk, you have to let people care about you, or the isolation will drive you crazy.

So Harry will have Ron and Hermione with him to find the horcruxes. And he'll be able to turn to Lupin, Moody, the Weasleys, and everybody else he knows and cares about, for information and assistance.

Well said. And that's pretty much what it is. LV's inability to understand and embrace the concept of love and trust will ultimately be his downfall. Love will be one of the advantages Harry will have over LV. Maybe the only one actually, at this point. He allows people in, and although he has his noble moments (i.e. pushing Ginny away because he doesn't want her to get hurt) he is still willing to let his best friends and other friends assist him in what he needs to do. Because LV works alone, no matter how many Death Eater's think they are "close" to him, that puts him at a major disadvantage and this detail, no matter how insignificant it may seem to him, will be the reason Harry is able to defeat him. For every action there is a reaction and LV doesn't seem to grasp this concept. For all the hatred he harbors that he thinks will enable him to kill Harry, its counterpart love, is even more powerful.

And thanks for mentioning A Wrinkle in Time! I haven't read that book in years and you made me want to pull it off my bookshelf. I'm taking it with me to school tomorrow to read between classes since I just finished re-reading Wicked today :)

very interesting last few posts.

I also think that LV's followers could become one of his greatest weaknesses because LV is a loner, doesn't trust anyone and is always pitting his followers against each other.

The release day has been announced..............July 21st, 2007 :) Can't wait for that date, but it'll be so sad that there won't be another release date.

I'm sad too. I felt this way with Buffy and with the LOTR movies. It's so bittersweet.

Well, it's very bittersweet. It will be over. After nearly a decade!

It's kind of creepy - I actually had a dream last night that I had a copy of Deathly Hallows. I skipped to the end, and read that Harry died...so I promptly threw the book onto a high shelf and refused to read it....then after several hours I got it back down, re-checked the ending, saw that it had not miraculously changed, and threw it back on the shelf!

It was a very realistic dream. I was so relieved when I woke up and realized it was just a dream.

So to wake up and check the news and see the release date - verrry spooky---*clue twilight zone music**

Is anyone else almost dreading OOTP because of what happens to Sirius? I almost don't want to watch it for that reason. :sad1:

Before the Dan/Equus topic is gone, I wondered what you all thought of the poster art for that particular production. Myself, I find it brilliant.
