*~* Muggles, Welcome to the Burrow! *~*

We had a wonderful HP thread here but it got deleted. :( I still feel sick over it when I think of all the good thoughts and opinions that went poof. Best I don't get started on that tho....... :rolleyes1

I am very interested in a discussion group. For Christmas I got the book "Mugglenet.com's What Will Happen in Harry Potter 7 - Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Falls in Love and How Will the Adventure Finally End?" Its fascinating, and I've been dying to discuss it with others.

I just picked up the Hogwart's Library books yesterday and was eyeing that one, as well. I spend more time on the Leaky Cauldron than I do Mugglenet. But, I find I get so sick of the Leaky Lounge's rule and constant, "Your post has been moved," or, "Your post has been deleted."

I have heard/read a theory that Harry himself is a horcrux. I don't believe that particular theory myself, as I do not see Harry somehow carrying a piece of Voldemort's soul...:scared1:

I also still have a small hope that Neville and Luna end up a couple. Somehow, they just seem very cute as a couple to me.

Anyone have any thoughts on these ideas? Any other theories or ideas you want to chat about?

D'oh almost forgot...anyone else convinced the mysterious RAB, is actually Sirius' brother?

Seems like this is becoming a discussion thread already! :rotfl:

Alright people, how do we want to structure this? Shall we start off with horcruxes? Snape? Who is going to die?

I think it would be best if we can somehow practically exhaust (I know it's tough) discussion on one subject before leading into the next. So, I think it's rather important that we all begin on one subject and progress into the next.

And what are we renaming the thread? :wizard:

I'd love to start with the most basic of questions. Whose side is Snape on? Mugglenet.com seems to think without a shadow of a doubt he is working for the Order. It does make sense, but then JKR is known for tripping us up. What do you think?

I agree. I didn't read Turbo Kitty's post before I posed my question. Maybe its best to start with her questions first. The horocruxes are so involved, we could go on for pages, I'm sure!

We will begin officially discussing Harry Potter here.

And, we will begin with the Snape issue. Please try to keep all discussion pertinent to Snape until we, by general consensus, feel it's time to move on. Please provide cannon references when possible or let us know it is just your gut feeling.

So... Who's side is Snape on? The Order? Lord Voldermort's? What's up with Narcissa and Draco in "Spinner's End"? And why does Dumbledore trust him explicitly? Why does Snape kill (gulp) Dumbledore- did occulemency and legilimens have anything to do with it? Did Snape make an unbreakable vow to Dumbledore? Just to get the juices flowing...

And what are we renaming this thread people?!

Yep, sorry for just jumping in there. Guess I just got a little excited to talk Potter.

I am not entirely sure we'll want to exhaust a topic completely before moving on to another though. I'd rather leave them somewhat open to encourage others to join in and maybe bring up things that might never occur to me...But, it is your thread and I'm happy to be here whichever way it goes. :wizard:

I think it's more of an attempt not to have 20 different conversations going on at once! Everything is related in some way, it seems, so it will be unlikely that we ever fully exhaust a topic. Bad choice of words. Go over it until we're all satisfied that something we've got down here is right (just to find out we were waaaay off when book 7 is released!). This is our post. We can lay the framework to suit us. :goodvibes

Oh- Luna is in the next movie, FYI. She's being played by Evanna Lynch. I'm cheering for her and Neville, too. She's a darn good Luna, too!!

Thats not quite how I pictured her, but I've never, not once, been disappointed with a casting choice so I'm sure she will do well.

:wave2: Hi! My name is Tazicket and I am a Harry Potter addict. I love the books. I like the movies (but they aren't nearly as good as the books :snooty: :lmao: )

On to the topic at hand. I would love to hate Snape. I've been actively disliking him since the first book, but somehow I don't think he's on Voldemort's side. I don't have the book in front of me, but if you go back to the end of Half Blood Prince where Dumbledore is killed, you could almost read it as Dumbledore trying to convince Snape to kill him. It almost seems like they planned it beforehand and Snape doesn't want to actually do it when the time comes. Snape also had an awesome opportunity to kill or kidnap Harry when Harry chases him into the woods after Dumbledore dies- that he did not take.

I'm not really sure why Dumbledore trusted Snape so completely. I will say that Dumbledore never came across as a crazy person in any of the other books, so I'm sure he had a good reason.

There's my 2 cents.

I also beleive that Snape is still a part of and working for The Order and not Voldemort. I believe Dumbledore knew what Draco was supposed to do (kill him) and the consequences he'd face if he failed. I think Dumbledore was still trying to protect his students.

HUGE Harry Potter fan checking in here! I've been reading the books since I was 12 :goodvibes I'd love to get a discussion going since no one else I know reads the books so I really have no one to talk to about theories, plot lines, etc.

So about Snape. As much as I have ALWAYS disliked him from day 1, I do honestly think he is working for the Order. I don't know why exactly, but I just have this feeling that Dumbledore's death was planned and that by the end of book 7 Snape will have redeemed himself to the other Order members in some way. Because in HBP, when Snape "kills" Dumbledore he seemed hesitant and then you read Dumbledore's words "Severus, please.." and that made me think he was begging him not to save his life, but to go through with their plan.

As far as Draco goes, I think that he too will find some way to help the Order. I think Draco is a scared kid who has been forced into a life he really didn't want. I think it is an innate desire of any child to please their parents and Draco is a perfect example of that. At the end of HBP when he is threatening to kill Dumbledore and then lowers his wand at Dumbledore's promise of protection...I think in that moment, he really realized the ramifications of being one of Voldermort's followers. I don't think that is truly what he wants to be. And at the very end when we see him and Snape running into the Forbidden Forest together it made me think that somehow Snape was going to protect Draco and help him get away from the Death Eaters.

Ok, there's my input for now, can't wait for the next topic :)

I think that Snape is a miserable person and I believe that he is still working for the Order- although I think he now deep deep under cover lol. I truly believe that it was Dumbledore encouraging Snape to kill him to keep the cover because it will be more important that someone is high on the inside of Voldemorts ranks to help Harry get to Voldemort...

Snape has few likeable qualities but I do believe he has many redeeming qualities- and ultimately I think he will sacrifice himself to save Harry- but not until nothing else can be done

Even though I want to believe Snape is good, I am going to go with my gut and say no, he is not.

I believe he has been plotting with Peter Pettigrew from the beginning when he was a rat in the halls of Hogwarts.

My first thought on Snape immediately upon reading the book was that he was always a double agent with a certain amount of loyalty to both sides and (unlike most of the Death Eaters) a realistic notion of Dumbledore's power. But in the "Spinner's End" chapter he realized "Oh crap, these two psycho killer drama queens are not going to get out of my house until I pick a side and stick with it, preferably theirs." I think I was just in so much shock I couldn't think straight.

But then the more I read other opinions, and went back and reread DD's death scene, its clear DDs death is part of a larger plan. When Harry was chasing after Snape and trying to hex him, Snape yelled out so many clues. He said that Harry couldn't use Unforgivables. He also brought up James twice, the second time to say that James also tried to turn Snape's own curses on him (hmmmmm). But most interestingly, as Snape kept blocking Harry's curses, he yelled "Blocked again and again until you learn to keep your mouth shut and your mind closed, Potter!"

So, the first was a reference to Harry's unblemished soul--that he lacks the necessary evil impulse to use Unforgivables. This says to me he won't be able to use Avada Kedavra on Voldemort. The reference to James seems to suggest a hypocrisy on the part of James, that James supposedly loathed people who used Dark Magic, but that James somehow got a hold of Snape's potion book at some point or other which contained some dark spells and tried them himself. Finally, I think Snape's comment about blocking Harry's spells foreshadows Harry taking up the study of Occlumency again.

Of course the biggest clue is how Snape insisted they leave Harry behind, and that he stopped another Death Eater from cursing him, and that he himself didn't grab Harry and drag him to Voldemort. That right there is the biggest clue of all that Snape hasn't turned.

But it seems so simple, and JKR is never simple. So there is more to it. I can hardly wait till Book 7 to find out!

Hi...another Harry Potter enthusiast here.

Add me to the ranks that Snape is still working for the Order and only killed Dumbledore because he had to. I think that both Snape & Dumbledore were just trying to keep Draco safe. It's going to be interesting to see how JKR has this play out for us.
