I called this morning to book a 2-Bedroom Value room at Jambo.
I asked the CM to please note a request for a Savanna View Room.
The CM said they are no longer taking room requests.
She said they were told at a meeting on Friday the 13th.

I also inquired about the DP and she had no information to provide me.:confused3
We are probably not using it next time BUT she said they have no information at all about the 2011 DP and I couldn't add it if I wanted to.

I can book a regular vacation now with the DP why not DVC?

I'd call back and see if you get a different CM and see if they say the same thing.

My guess is they were still having a lot of people throwing a fit at the front desk if they didn't get the exact room they requested. I have witnessed some DVCer meltdowns over the years, that usually start with "I paid a lot of $$$ for this timeshare, and I pay your salary!" And they usually devolve from there. :sad2:

People are no longer content to simply be at Disney is a great room, they need the "perfect" room.

Society has gone from Bridezillas to Travelzillas.

Actually, I think I might find this change to be for the better, if it's true.

I agree, as long as they continue to meet requests for those with mobility impairments, like "First Floor Medical" at OKW, since they have stairs.

Me too. While we have made requests in the past, if they are no longer allowed, I would be okay with that.

I too have witnessed people getting very upset about not getting what they wanted, even when the CM states that requests are no guaranteed.

Plus, there has to be certain requests that everyone is making which would be impossible to deal with--for example, many with MK views at BLT request higher floor.

Again still new here, but there is something I do not understand. There is a difference in the points for a Value room vs a Savanna View room, almost 50%. Why would they give someone this? Were upgrades being given in the past. If so why would anyone book the more costly room if they could get it for the cheaper room?

The wife and I travel a lot on business, between the two of us over 200 nights a year. Do we get upgrades, yes because of our travels. Are we able to ask for them, not really. Do we get them, yes maybe one in four times. Are they anything great, again not really. Do we really care if we get them, NO.

The value rooms are located only in Jambo house, and are not based on view, but are based on size. Because the villas in Jambo house are retrofitted into an existing area from standard cash rooms, some rooms are several feet shorter. These rooms are spread throughout the DVC floor in Jambo house, and a small number of these value villas have a Savannah view. It is not an upgrade to a regular-sized Savannah view villa.

The value rooms have either a pool view or a savannah view. People book the values to save on points but hope they will get one of those rooms that also has savannah view.

So, you get the best of both worlds.

My guess would be they were talking about AKV Value rooms and requests only. The last time I booked one I asked for a Savanna view request and the CM told me over and over that it didn't exist - that request/view.

I told her I had just stayed in one two months earlier. Smiling.

Anyway, I got it again. Lucky.

The value rooms are smaller and the view is not guaranteed. There are only a small number of them at Jambo House.

The DDP is a perk that DVC management negotiates each year with Disney. As with other perks, sometimes it takes a while for them to have the meetings and agreements executed.

The view requests are one thing with value room requests - but room requests in general is another.

I think if they are going to offer value rooms it should be somewhat the luck of the draw. We stayed at Studio in AKV-Jambo in December and the room was HUGE! So we are thinking that we will book a value room on our next trip to save some points and have a view that we would be totally OK with - considering either view in the value rooms isn't going to be the parking lot! :rotfl:

I totally agree. I think the request thing has really gotten out of hand. I sometimes request certain buildings or an area (45-46 or South Point), but I never go beyond that.

I too am thinking this might be specifically for Value at Jambo. I'm sure everyone who books value WANTS the savanna view, and my guess is that most also request it. I'm betting that might be true for CL at Jambo too. I think it was a mistake to put value rooms with a savanna view just for that reason. By the same token, CL rooms are more points, so they should all be savanna view. JMHO.

Actually, there is a slight chance that you would get a parking lot view in an AKV value studio. Of the 18 total value studios (dedicated and lock-off), 2 are parking lot view.

I wonder why they didn't make the savanna view rooms club level?
That way they would have had them more valuable - and would have made more CL rooms available - it's great to have club level available at a DVC resort! :)

I believe the ADA would require this.

Not necessarily. I think the ADA only requires them to have a certain number of fully accessible, modified units, and to block those if needed. To my knowledge it does not require them to honor a first floor request for a non-HA room.
