MS gave me nasty attitude today when I called about my resale

That is true if they are all deeded with the same names. DH and I have 2 memberships in our names only and I was able to get those set up to view under one web account. We added a 3rd membership that also has our DS as a owner. MS IT told me I could not include that one in the same web account. It has to have it's own.

However, if they are under one and you later change the names, they remain under one.

Do you need to set that up with ms or IT or is it done automatically when the contract closes?

A resale is "differnet" It seems to be processed differently (and with less hurry) by Member Accounting.
