MS gave me nasty attitude today when I called about my resale

We purchased a resale contract that has closed. We made sure to purchase the same UY as our existing membership contract and noted our member ID on all of the contract documents.

I called today to see if the points were showing up in our Member ID today, since it has been a week. The CM at MS gave me the nastiest attitude about how Resales are a new member ID. I explained to her that it was the same UY. She was not very nice about it, and made a point to mention how resales are "different". I just ended the call and will try back tomorrow.

I understand today is the first day of the changes, but they still need to be considerate of those that have passed ROFR. They will have a month or two of those contracts coming through.

I bet the CM's are tired of all of the new resale owners calling repeatedly to see if a) they are in the system, and b) if their points are loaded. I have read lots of posts lately about people calling over and over until their account was ready. The CM's should still be nice, but I do bet that they are tired of answering calls from new members!

As there are only specific people at Member Accounting that verify and load resales into the computer, Member Services would have no control over that, yet has to field calls from resale purchasers wanting to know if they're in the system.

As the OP is an existing member, I would suggest the best way to know if the contract has been fully entered into the system would be to check their account on the DVC Member website.

That's too bad, esp since you are already an owner too! Hopefully your next call will go better. Can't you just check online?

Yes, I think I will just sit tight and wait until I see the points load into my member ID online. It should be soon.

What really bothered me is how she made a point several times to say how resale is different. And since we passed ROFR before the deadline it isn't.

Resale is different in the way it is loaded into the system, it always has been.

If you purchase direct, the points are normally available right away, as soon as you make the deposit/down payment. Perhaps that is what the CM was referring to.

Maybe she was referring to the fact that direct sales hit the system within a day after purchase, long before closing. Resales only hit the system after closing and I'm sure it's a different paperwork process. I don't think she was referring to the deadline changes.

On behalf of new owners who were probably calling too much, I offer my sincerest of apologies if attitude was given due to an increase in calls. Sadly I had made an offer on a resale contract which was accepted several weeks before Disney announced the big change. Perhaps due to others flooding the system, we didn't close until the beginingg of March. Two weeks later I began the calls. In retrospect I wouldn't change a thing as the time share was a first anniversary present to my spouse and everyday she excitedly asked me if we could "book now? Can we?" So while I feel bad about flooding the MS about every 3 days, I wouldn't do it differently. The smile I put on my spouse's face when I told her we were officially members and I had booked our first reservation? It was priceless. :cloud9:

You will see the contract and points in your account the same time as MS so calling isn't necessary.

As far as the attitude, everyone can have a bad day or some people just seem to always have a bad attitude. Don't take it personally.

My closing is scheduled for Wed. the 23rd, but my timeshare agent said it could be today or tomorrow. How would I be able to log on and check when my points are loaded? What website do I go to and what information would I need?

Thanks in advance.

OP -- I had a similar answer about my resale contract, though the CM was polite about it. I called to check my resale contract. It was not loaded, but the CM told me that a resale contract would not be added to my existing membership but would have a new membership #. I had already said it was the same UY, but she checked by my name instead of my member # and advised that when I call back, I should ask them to check my name. I knew that was not correct, but just ended the call since I knew the contract was not set up at the time. I wish I had realized it would hit the member website the same time MS would see it. I would have just checked there. I was afraid there might be a delay between when they see it and when I would see it.

I just got off the phone with MS and my points were loaded today and my ressies for my June trip have been made, so all's well that ends well. Hopefully your call was just a one-off.

You would need to be an existing DVC Member, then when your account was updated to reflect the new points you could see it on the DVC Memeber website.

If the resale is your first DVC Membership, you will need to call Member Services. Until your resale is entered into the system, you won't have any access to the website.

As other's have said - resale is different. I don't think this has much to do with the resale changes though since getting a different member number has been reported a reported response from some MS personnel long prior to this. It's not really their area and I think many have no idea about it.

Time will tell though. I have wondered if resale purchases after the deadline WILL be given new membership numbers even if it's the same as a currently owned UY.

I nave 3 contracts same use year that I bought from Disney direct. They have the same member number. I also have 2 resales that I have bought. I was given a new member number for each resale. Maybe that's what the CM meant you would be given a new member number for the resales.

You don't mention if your resales were the same or different UY's. If different then yes, you get a new member number. If the same they could have been placed under your same member number. We've bought both direct and resale and have a single member number. (well, technically two b/c we have two UY's but resales have always been added to existing member numbers).

I just logged in and the resale contract and points are there, listed under my original member ID. :goodvibes

This makes me wonder if they will not combine them going forward as a way of further discouraging resales.

I'm glad to see that the points are there under the same number. It's still no excuse for the CM being rude (or at the best short). I think that it would be a acceptable to ask for a supervisor and make a complaint.

We have always experienced the utmost respect and courtesy when we've called (and we own resale), but it's disturbing to hear that the CM bordered on being rude because you have resale points. The service should be the same even if the points might not be able to be used for cruises and hotel reservations.

I hope that this was just an isolated incident. As I said, we've always had great interactions and the utmost in courtesy.

I hope MS is able to cope with the resale contracts. At some point most of the owners will be resale. it is hightly unlikely most owners will own their direct contracts for life.
