MR October 28, 2012 "Halloween Time"

Great info! I think I was able to fix my siggy, it was a matter of tagging.

I see that you are in Sacramento, we are in Oxnard (between LA and Santa Barbara). Now that I think of it, I didn't add my location to my signature, oops! Gotta do that!

I understand busy, I work full time (on break now) so I know that it can be hard to respond to the board!

I have been combing this board, getting so much great info from everyone! The first thing I learned was about the door magnets, I am definitely doing that!

Thanks for the FE info, I most likely will join, sounds like fun! Do you make different FEs for the kiddos?

Well I better go, talk to you soon!

Do you make different FEs for the kiddos?

Here's a link to a little page I did about FE's last year when I was the leader of our group on that cruise. The way FE's work is that there is a metal fish outside your cabin door. It acts like a clip or hook so that castmembers can leave a note for your cabin, etc. Basically, your FE is something with pockets that hangs from this fish and people participating go around to all of the cabins and put little gifts and things in the pockets. There is typically 1 pocket for each person in the cabin; however, some people only do 1 pocket for everyone. No, you would not make a separate FE for each kid because there is only 1 hook. If you made one for each kid there would be no place to hang them. Hopefully the pictures on the link above help you to understand what it is and how it works. The picture shows FE's with only 1 or 2 pockets, but you can do FE's with 4 pockets. Be careful though, there is a limitation that Disney sets as to the allowed length/width/size of the FE...so don't make it too big!! Hope that helps! :thumbsup2

Thanks to the Jessicas for all of the useful FE info! :thumbsup2

YAY!!! I just got our FE this week!!! It took FOREVER!!! The lady was on vacay and it took her a while to catch up, but I started to get worried and she didn't respond to anything! It is BEAUTIFUL and flawless, so I am THRILLED!! I will post a pic later since its late tonight. I am excited to do this because our boys will be so excited!

How is everyone??

Hi everyone,..my family and I have booked our first disney cruise and are really exicted. We have cruised before with Carnival. My two boys are super excited (7, 5 years old) and can wait to experience halloween on the ship. I am still trying to wrap my mind around this whole fish extender thing.. and am wondering what else Im missing out on.....I need a Disney cruise for dummies handbook.

So can we all get a consensus? who wants to participate in Fish Extenders? They are fun! we did them last cruise and the kids loved them!

Count us in.. i have emailed Jessica, since it looks like she is getting the FE list together.

I cant wait, now it need to shop for a FE!

You are very welcome :flower3: I am SO SORRY for the delay. I have it set up to get immediate notifications, but for some reason I haven't been getting my DISboards message notifications. I had no idea anyone had even responded yet. Again, I am REALLY SORRY for the delay. You have been added to the FE list. :thumbsup2 Did all of the FE stuff make sense? Do you have any more questions?

Hi Claudia - I did receive your email, thanks! I'm sorry it's taken a couple of days, I have a 4 month old baby so I'm running a bit slow lately. You have been added to the list though! :woohoo: Welcome to the cruise - it's going to be fun!!

About FE's:To anyone joining, PLEASE make sure you email me to be sure that I see it. Doing this also helps me to keep things straight because messages can get lost in the string once the string gets going. For some reason I have not been getting my DISboards notifications, so emailing will also insure that I get your info. IF I DO NOT ADD YOU OR RESPOND WITHIN 1 WEEK, PLEASE POST AND/OR EMAIL ME AGAIN. It is possible that your email could go into my spam folder and I didn't notice it. Just post a little message saying, "hey, did you get my email" and I will follow-up eventually. Also - thank you everyone for your patience. I am running a little slow with a 4 month old, but I will get it done :flower3:

We are SO EXCITED for the cruise - we can't wait!

Hey everyone! I posted about the "business" end of things but just thought I would check in and see how everyone is doing. How is everyone? :confused3

Things are well with us. Lorelai is 4 months old now and growing FAST! When we brought her home she was about 5 lbs 13 oz and now she's over 14 lbs!! She is so precious and we couldn't be happier! (A few pictures below) Sorry again for the gigantic photos. Because of that I'll only give 2, but I have more if anyone wants to see! lol, proud mama LOVES to share!princess:

Anyone have thoughts on infant Halloween costumes? My husband and I are disagreeing, but I think I'm going to have the final say on this one. I'm REALLY liking 2 right now - a teddy bear and a lion (they are SO MUCH) cuter than they sound. Thoughts?? She'll be 9 and a half months old on the cruise.

I hope everyone is doing well. It's exciting that we've had some more people join recently. We can't wait for the cruise! :woohoo:

Well, we're out. I got pregnant the week after we booked our cruise. I'm 13 weeks now, and I plan on getting our deposit back after I hit 16 wks or so. Have a great time! We'll be waiting until this little one is 3 to try again for our first Disney cruise.

We're sorry to hear that, but...CONGRATULATIONS! Out of curiosity, may I ask why you are going to wait until the baby is 3 to retry for a first Disney Cruise? Is it financial, or do you just think that the baby would be too little? I must say, we took Lorelai to Disneyland for the first time when she was 2 weeks old and she's taking her first Disney cruise at 9 months old...and we CAN'T WAIT! :woohoo: She'll never be that young again so we'll never have the opportunity to go back and take her on things like cruises/have those photo ops, so we're glad we're doing it. After all it's Disney so there's something for EVERYONE, no matter the age! :upsidedow

Anyway - good luck with everything and congratulations again!

Hi all!

We just got home from our Vancouver - Seattle Wonder cruise, so I'm happy to post we have booked and will be joining you for this cruise. We live near L.A. and are so excited to be able to drive to the port for this one.

Can't wait to catch up on the posts. :wizard:

And we are in for the FE!

Hi this is our first time going on a cruise. I managed to convince my hubby to do Disney which I love!!!!! Its also my sons 8th birthday!
Does anyone know of special arrangments that can be made to make it a little specila for him!!!!?????:hourglass

Jessica, no, it's not financial or anything like that. We had waited until our ds was 3 to go this time because we didn't want to pay for babysitting hours. We have been AP holders at Disneyland off and on for a few years, so our kids have been to DL a ton of times. First time for dd was 4 months and 7 months for ds. This little one will most likely go around 4 weeks old so we can activate our new AP's that we got before the price increase and have to be activated before the end of the year.

The biggest reason is probably a bit selfish for dh and I. We have been on two cruises previously...one before we had kids and one when dd was 14 months old, both on carnival. The second one was for our 10th anniversary and I just couldn't leave dd with anyone. The only thing about that was that dh and I didn't get any alone time on the cruise, and as much as I LOVE my kids, dh and I would like to be able to have time on our own on the cruise too. So when this one is getting close to 3, I'll star working on dh to plan another Disney cruise...I figure I convinced him once, I can do it again lol. We'll definitely be on the lookout for a great KSF deal :)

Your kids are lucky! I think that any kids whose parents take them to Disney are lucky. It truly is magical! What you said makes sense, too. I can see why you might want to wait.

LOL, my husband and I had an opposite thought. Instead of thinking about paying for babysitting we thought about not having to pay a full 3rd person rate for a baby. There are still port, tax, and a small fee, but it's much less than a full 3rd person rate. Then again, we were taking Disney trips and vacations WAY BEFORE we had kids, so for us we're alright with her being too little to do anything or to remember. Maybe it's because we're new parents, but we're also not planning on a whole lot of babysitting time. Actually, we'll probably only use a couple of hours for a night at palo, and that's IF we go through with a dinner alone. I guess we're still too new to want time away from her. LOL, when she's older though she can spend all day in the kids club!

If you love Disney and want to keep talking your husband into Disney trips then I would HIGHLY recommend trying to talk him into a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) membership. We've been members for years and we LOVE it! It allows us to always make sure we have an annual Disney vacation...if not more than one a year.

Well, good luck with everything and congratulations again! :flower3:

Thanks :). I understand not wanting to leave your baby. I had a hard time with that for a long time. We finally went on a trip on our own wpjust after dd turned 4 and ds turned 2. Dh went to England for work and I couldn't pass up the chance to join him for 10 dayd of his 18 day trip. Even then, I stayed with the kids for a week at mil's house before I left them for 10 days to make sure they were settled. The older they get, the easier it gets to leave them for a bit, but I still can't leave them with just anyone. Mil and my sil, whom they know very well are about it for overnight trips.

As for DVC, we did look into it a couple of years ago, but we decided to wait until we own a home before getting into it. Hopefully we'll do it sooner rather than later though since we know the prices go p every year :)
