Does anyone have the MPIO 512 MB MP3 player? Sears has this for 39.99 after rebate. My son 9, wants a MP3 player for Christmas but I don't know anything about them. Is this a good one? Can you download songs from any website (itunes, walmart etc..)? I could use any info on these you can give. :goodvibes

I know some people were unhappy with it and returned it, but I do not know why. You can download songs from just about anywhere. The format at iTunes is a higher quality than the Walmart site and iTunes has a bigger selection. Getting downloaded songs into the right format and loaded onto the Mp3 player is another matter. I have never had to do it with a non-iPod, but for a 9 year old I would be careful to make sure it was easy enough.

I have my two younger kids using an old fashioned CD player. I download music from iTunes and burn them disks. They seem pretty happy with this set up, although they do want to know when they will be 'old enough' for an iPod. They have to search for their Gameboys most days, and those are way bigger than Mp3 players. I am afraid they would lose them...

I have the MPIO DD is using it now for music I have had no problems with it .I've used WMP and now I-Tunes with no problem

The one thing that it wouldn't do is upgrade firmware from websight to use as file share not a big deal but was a problem.

I use my phone now it has MP3 and got DD tink mix stick so the Mpio will sit once again.

If it's for just music your 9 yr old should be fine with the MPIO the only other feature that makes a difference is if it has a removable flash card. For his age you might get him the DISNEY MIX STICK .
I heard they are already clearenced at Target if you can find them. The best thing about them is the SSD removeable flash I have DD a 1GB so it holds more music.

I bought my DD now 15 A MPIO three years ago and she has never liked it. It does not hold enough songs and the customer service is HORRIBLE!!! The web page is hard to navigate and downloading any updates is very difficult. My three DD's all asked for Ipod nano's this year and I got them. When I asked someone at Best Buy about the MPIO and I told them about all the problems we had with it ,they said they no longer sell that mps player. Enough said!!

I agree with maybe just a nice portable cd player. My 8 year old DS has one and likes it. Download songs for him and burn them onto a cd.

I bought the Dell DJ for my 9 year old grandson. They had it on sale for $89.00. My son has one and really likes it. My grandson loves music and I wanted to get him a good one.

I have the same one but only a 256mb and paid the same for it by the way (darn it!). I actually love this mp3player and almost considered keeping it for myself and selling my ipod on ebay - seriously. Instead I decided to keep the ipod and give the MPIO to my daughter as planned. In the meantime, I listen to hers whenever she's not around and it sounds great - downloads onto it fast and I have NO complaints. Hey - I have to test the merchandise - I don't want to give her a gift that isn't working properly!!
