Mp3 players & I-pods on planes?

Hiya

Are you allowed to use an Mp3 player or I-pod on a plane?

I know cd players are/where a no no but wondered if technology had by-passed the interference that mobile phones/cd players etc seemed to cause.

Were CD players ever a no-no then? I've used one on pretty much every flight I've been on in the past six years and no-one from the cabin crew has ever asked me to stop, even when it's been right in front of them. However, as I have recently upgraded to an iPod, I'd like to know as well - can't see them objecting as all it is essentially is a mini hard drive - if you're allowed to use a laptop, then this must be okay.

You are allowed to use them on the plane, they just ask that you do not have them on for take-off and landing.

The only thing you're not allowed to use are mobile phones - thank goodness! Can you imagine the extra noise if you were? Nightmare.

Everything else is fine except during takeoff and landing. I have always used my CD player and moved on to MP3 a couple of years ago. Got a new one for this summer's trip too!

I've found it depends on the airline (well certainly to europe anyway). I've been on some plane that wouldn't let us use anything - mytravel I think and a spanish one but I can't remember which, and I've been on others whre we could apart from on takeoff and landing or if the seatbelt light came on. I've only been to Florida once and that was with Virgin and there was no problem whatsoever as far as they were concerned.
