My family and I are moving to Southwestern Florida the first of the year. Granted we are Disney freaks, other than that, I don't know very much about Florida. We are moving to the Fort Myers area. If anyone has some information, it would be greatly appreciated!:jester:

Good luck on your move. I only know it a beautiful area.

Lucky you. I don't know anything about Florida other then Disney world but moving to Kissimee is my dream some day. :D

Don't know anything about the area, but Congrats on the move!:D

The Fort Meyers area seems nice but have only been there twice so I don't really have a good perspective. I have a friend who lives in Naples and works in Ft. Meyers and he really likes the area. Good luck with your move.

While I'm a big WDW fan, my absolute favorite spot in Florida is Fort Myers! I have vacationed there for 1-2 weeks per year for about 15 years, usually staying down on Ft. Myers Beach. It is a very beautiful city, which I've explored numerous times. The beach is wonderful, the marina downtown is beautiful in a different way, there's 2 baseball teams that have spring training in Ft. Myers, there's history (Henry Ford and Thomas Edison winter homes - a very interesting tour), and of course plenty of good restaurants and shopping. Some parts get really congested at the height of tourist season, especially Ft. Myers Beach, but that's to be expected.

The airport is really nice too. It's small enough that it's not wild like some of the big airports, but yet it has plenty of airlines and flights coming and going. They've expanded the airport several times over the years.

One other good thing is that Ft. Myers is very close to Sanibel Island. You will LOVE Sanibel with all its tropical growth. Other nice communities nearby are Bonita Springs and then the upscale areas of Naples and Marco Island.

Being that far south in Florida gives you a better chance of nice warm weather for much of the winter months. Of course, it may be more beastly hot in the summer. Not sure, because I've only been to Fort Myers between December and May.

Hope that helps a little. If you have any specific questions, I can TRY to answer. I'm envious of your move! :p Good luck to you and your family as you relocate to a beautiful city! :D

My grandparents lived there for years, so I've been there often enough. It's a beautiful area. Lots of stuff to do - great beach. One of the nicest ones in Florida that I've seen.

Oh, and by the way, I'm jealous! I really want to move to Florida, so please, enjoy yourself a little for me too. :D

Congrats on the move. Don't know much about the west coast. Grew up on the east coast. Wish I was there now. I am sure you will have a great time. It is a beautiful area. Good luck.

Thanks for all of the nice comments and information. My DH & 3 DD's are a little nervous. We have always said..."Well, one day when we live in Florida..." Never thinking we would make it there before 55. Being from Ky I know the climate will be a big change. I'm just glad we had a nice snow before we left.

Thanks again all-:D
