Moving out a placeholder reservation > 1 year

Has anyone been successful in moving out a placeholder reservation for more than a year? I currently have one for our cancelled Rhine river cruise this year that needs to be booked by April 2019, but we might want to push off our ABD trip to 2020 and the itineraries won't be out by then. Should I book something then cancel again?

We pushed our Backstage Magic ressie a couple of times and ended up doing it just a couple of weeks ago instead of when first booked for 2016. I believe our TA moved it to the furthest out date possible and then moved again.

Yes, we were able to do that. You move it to one of the latest trips on the schedule (usually one of the spring trips) and then move it again when another years' schedule comes out.
