Are there standard rooms in the Toy Story section? Online check in is being wonky. This is a stay for 2021.

“Preferred Location” at the All Star Movies Resort are rooms closest to Cinema Hall Lobby and World Premiere Food Court. Currently, buildings 1 & 4 (101 Dalmations), 5 & 8 (Fantasia) and 9 & 10 (Toy Story) are in the preferred category. All other rooms are the same no matter what view or location you have. So yes, Toy Story Area has standard rooms, as well as, preferred rooms.

I was looking at touring plans for the All Star Movies resort, on the resort page it says standard rooms are in all building, but on their resort map they only have a few buildings as standard and the rest are preferred rooms like you mentioned. I just ended up chaning my booking to preferred, but kinda want to stick with the standard price. Should I stick with preferred or just go with standard? Online check in is only letting me pick ground and upper and no building type.

On-line check-in only takes suggestions - like what you mentioned. They do not guarantee any particular building. With a preferred you will get one of the 3 buildings I mentioned. You can call, after you book and talk to a CM and have them add that you would like the Toy Story building. They will note it but not guarantee it. If you take this route, call about 3 days before you go and tell them again - this is when they actually start assigning rooms. The other option is to take the standard room and do the exact same thing - plus, when you get there (on or near property, if you do on-line check in) you will get your room assignment (via the My Disney Experience App - download this if you haven't - it will help ALOT), look on the map and see where they put you - if it's not the Toy Story building - go to Guest Services and ask if they have any rooms in that building. It also helps, depending on what time you arrive at the resort, to tell them you are willing to wait for a room (Bell Services will hold your luggage until your room is ready) to open up in the Toy Story building, this sometimes works because most people are not willing to wait for their room.
If you already booked Preferred - I would just stick with it and do what i said a few days prior to arrival or when you get on property. The preferred will save you some walking and is much closer to the food court.

FYI - all rooms are refubed and are just like those at POP. They have been done very nicely and look nothing like the old rooms. You will be pleasantly surprised. I don't know when you are going but be aware that the buses for All-Star aren't exactly quick - or rather get full fast - due to picking up multiple resorts. Allow plenty of time to get where you are going - use the MDE (My Disney Experience App) and the TV's to check bus arrival times. We stayed there in 2014 - before the refurb and our boys loved it. It has become a much better resort since then.

Correct. No matter how you make your request - MDE online check in, Touring Plans, calling and having it put on - it is only a request. They will never guarantee a section outside of the room categories you can book for - barring upgrades due to operational reasons.

I never hurts to ask - and Disney will honor a lot of the requests if it can. We have been the on the receiving end of many of these simple room requests.

Yes, but there are times they cannot honor them. So they will always stress that they are ONLY requests.

I agree - the point I was making is that if you don't request it - you wont get it. Again, I have personally had my room moved from standard to preferred 4 times. It all depends on what is open at the time.
