Movies shown on ship in September

My family will be going on our first Disney cruise September 28. Does anyone have any idea of what movies they might be showing onboard at that time? Do you think Aladdin and Toy Story 4 will still be showing? We are a family of six, so I would like to hold off seeing these in theatres if we can watch them on our cruise.

How long is your cruise? There are three Disney movies that will come out between Toy Story 4 and your cruise: Spider Man, Lion King, and Artemis Fowl. Looking at recent navigators, a recent 3-night cruise showed 4 movies in the Buena Vista theater, so you probably would not have both Aladdin and Toy Story on a 3 night cruise in addition to the three movies I mentioned that will be more recent by the time of your cruise. But a recent 4-night cruise showed 7 movies, so your odds seem much better if it is 4 days or longer.

That said, I can't recommend waiting to see both movies on the cruise if you really want to see them in a theater. Even if they are both shown during your cruise, who knows what days/times may be offered? They might be showing on castaway cay day, when you have an activity reservation or a port excursion, or after your kids' bedtime.

It's a seven night cruise. I have no desire to see Spider Man or Artemis Fowl. I didn't realize Lion King would be released then. My kids are ages 13-6. I just wanted to avoid paying for all of us see them in the theatres, if we can watch them on the ship. Thanks for your reply!

How long a movie is shown on the ships depends on how many new movies are coming out after it. I'd say it is almost a certainty Toy Story 4 and Lion King will be shown on the cruise. There's a good chance Aladdin will be shown, but it might just have one or two showings over the course of the cruise. As the PP mentioned, show times may not be convenient. If you won't be heartbroken not seeing Aladdin in the theater, then wait and see if they show it on the cruise. If you are dead set on seeing it in the theater, then it would be best to go now. I always think I'll get to the theater to see movies on the cruise, but then there are so many other things going on that I hardly ever get around to it.

Well, we were on a cruise last June and Incredibles 2 had recently come out and was played a lot (in fact my daughter watched it 3 times on that cruise and once on our September cruise). I just saw on the most recent Alaska Navigators that Incredibles 2 was shown at least 4 times almost a year later! You just never know.

Oh, wow! I think my husband and I might watch Aladdin in theaters, and the kids can see it on the cruise if it is playing. The other movies we will probably wait on. Thanks!

We watched Aladdin the day it came out at the theater. We loved it! We will probably go see it again. I also have a cruise in September and also hope that it is playing on the ship. I'm on a 10 day cruise so probably have a pretty good chance of that happening.

I, too, am cruising September and hope to see Lion King and Spiderman on the cruise.

Artemis Fowl has been pushed to spring of 2020 for release.

I believe that there are licensing issues with Sony that prevent them from showing Far From Home. Perhaps this round will be different, but apparently they showed Homecoming once as a special event on release day and not any other times during that summer.

I would guess that the big ones will be Endgame, Lion King, Aladdin and Toy Story throughout the summer.

Yeah, I thought there was some kind of licensing issue with Spider-Man that prevents the ships from showing them.

With the list of probabilities (I suspect it will be the same pretty much in July), guess I will not be seeing a movie on my cruise. :( Not a Marvel or Aladdin fan, see no need for another Toy Story (3 ended it so perfectly), and am suffering from Lion King overkill. Oh well. More time to read on the promenade deck!

My personal opinion - if you really want the kids to see it, spend the money and take them now. We were on a Fantasy cruise in late April. All I wanted to do was see Dumbo. They did offer it about 4 times but every time was when I had something else planned (tasting, Palo brunch, Dinner) so I never saw it. The Avengers Endgame was also just released so that was offered just about every day.

We have done 6 cruises over the last 3 years and each cruise there was 1 movie that was new I really wanted to see. The Incredibles 2 was the only 1 I was able to fit into the schedule.

I saw Spiderman: Homecoming on the Magic in mid-July 2017, a few weeks after the release day. Perhaps that was permitted because the ship was in Europe -- I don't know if the Marvel licensing agreements for films are location-based as they are for the parks.

My husband and I saw Aladdin last Saturday. I loved it! I'm glad I didn't wait until the cruise. I hope to see it again on the cruise with the kids.

That's good to know. But the way, have you seen Dumbo yet? Did you like it? I still haven't seen it.

What ship are you sailing on? Dream and Fantasy should, at a minimum, have all of the current movies available on-demand in the Stateroom. While it certainly wont' hold a candle to watching it on Funnel Vision or in one of the on-board theaters, the price is right.... :)

We will be on the Fantasy. I didn't know if the movies you could watch on-demand included those still in theaters. Good to know!

It will probably be Frozen 2 MANIA on my early December cruise...so I am hoping Lion King and Toy Story will still be showing on mine as well! Maybe the new Maleficent too, but that doesn’t come out until October.
