Movies & DREAMs 1/13 (Recent 11/18) Castaway Cay & MK

Thanks for the Rebel Spy tip. Definitely going try that in February. Will report back :thumbsup2

Looks like a good day

Love the Real disney comment :rotfl2:

Both girls are getting so tall. Growing up so fast

Love the one pic you showed from you mini photo shoot.. so cute :goodvibes

Hope it works for you on Star Tours! Unless everyone else is doing the same trick!!:rotfl2:

Yes, it was a good day!

"The real Disney" still cracks me up. I plan to use that in my DMP interview, if I make it to the next round.

Art of Animation is now going to be our go-to resort when we aren't using our points for DVC. The resort is so neat and you really can spend a day or more just exploring it. I have so many more photos of us just wondering around. There isn't time to show them all.

Oh, please send me the link to your TR. I didn't see you restarted. Wow -- 6 years, that's when our gang kind of all got started!!

It is from when we all met! Here it is. I have been so crazy busy with the house I haven;t updated for a while.

Today is Wednesday, January 16th.

Up at 7am and into AK at 8:25am for EMH. Rachel and Jerry/Me ride Expedition Everest 3x. This is a favorite ride for us.

Jerry and Rachel in the front row.

Rachel was so proud that she raised her hands in the air!

Rachel and I in the front row

Giving the "thumb's up" sign

Elie had fun in the gift shop trying on wigs/hats.

Then we went over to Triceratop Spin

and rode Primeval Whirl (not Elie, she wasn't tall enough) 3x. WDW always brings out the good in siblings.

Off to the safari. FP were good for 40 minutes from now so we grabbed them and decided to snack on watermelon and chips at the little snack market close by. It was actually getting warm out so this felt wonderful.

Rode Safari and Rachel decided she was bored with this. So I gave her my camera to take photos and then she liked it.

Flame Tree BBQ for lunch - yummy!! We love to sit down by the water and listen to the screams on Expedition Everest.

Then we decided to explore The Oasis. We always just rush by this area but today we took the time to explore. The girls found this really cool "shaky" bridge

and just kept running over it again and again and again. Here is Elie in mid-stride.

Jerry found an appropriate hat for him

Back at AoA, I stop at the Front Desk b/c I wanted to use my Disney VISA Rewards card to pay for any purchases that we have made (room, souvenirs, snacks, meals). Guess what??

We accumulated enough rewards points from the VISA card to pay for everything so far!!!:cool1::cool1: It felt wonderful to have a "$0" balance and know that we had spent a lot already. Yes, we put almost all of our normal purchases on our VISA card just for this purpose -- to spend it at Disney.

Back to our room to rest and pack up. Tomorrow we go on a cruise!

We go to Magic Kingdom around 4pm to pick up SOTMK cards, do some more shopping at the Emporium, take Photopass Pics and tour New Fantasyland. I couldn't wait to see this new area. It is beautiful. I won't inundate you with lots of pics b/c by now you have probably seen the whole area.

One of my favorites is meeting Gaston. I totally flirted with him -- and he loved it just as his character would.

Now Jerry decides that he is going to play with Gaston, too, and says that Gaston is the size of a barn (if you recall the words to the Gaston song...)

Well Gaston immediately takes offense at that and corrects Jerry to say that it's "roughly the size of a barge" not a barn.. And he continues to go saying that a barn just doesn't make sense and who does he think he is? It was hysterical!

Next we wait in line for our ADR at Be Our Guest -- yes, we are eating here again. I was really lucky and got 3 ADRS for the time we were here and we thoroughly enjoyed eating all 3 times and ordered something different each time. This one was scallops and shrimp for me; cornish hen for Jerry. We were in the Main Dining Room this time and watched the snow fall. We decided to splurge on the Royal Light Up souvenir cups and only ordered regular drinks for the girls. Rachel didn't think that was right...

A meet and greet with the Beast. This trip was the first time we met him!

Then off to ride Goofy's Barnstormer, Dumbo, and view Wishes Fireworks from Dumbo area.

So excited for our first Disney Cruise tomorrow!!!:cheer2:

Love the people behind Jerry and Rachel during EE :rotfl:

Great pics for both of your ride photos

I don't even know what the Oasis is at AK. That shows you how much time we spend there :rotfl2:

Love Rachel's face when she is not happy that you guys got cool cups and girls did not. too funny

can't wait to hear about cruise next :cool1:

I can't tell if the guy behind Jerry is going "cool" with a pumped fist or if he is hiding.

Yeah, the Oasis is that part you have to walk through of AK before you get to the bridge that opens up onto the Animal Kingdom Tree of Life. You either can go left or right and there are animal displays to see. However, there are also a few intertwining pathways, a cave, a "shaky" bridge, a water fall, etc and more animal displays. It's really a cool place to explore and we just had to take the time to do it b/c we just always rush on by.

Rachel is my little actor! She should have been happy since she got a chocolate milk, ya know! When I was a kid ... :rotfl2::lmao:

Cruise is coming up right now!!:beach::boat:

Today is Thursday, January 17th

Yesterday was a full day at AK and MK so we were a bit tired this morning. We slept in until 8am and then packed up and went to the Port Canaveral Security by 11:15am -- great time!

Let me tell you, when we turned off the main highway and saw the Dream ship for the first time, it was an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G sight!! I got goosebumps with excitement. I will never forget that first look -- the ship is HUMONGOUS yet also incredibly pretty! There were other ships we saw along the way and during the cruise (Carnival, RCI) but they looked so boxy and ugly like Cinderella's step sisters. The DCL Dream looked like Cinderella!

Jerry dropped us off to off-load our luggage and we went through security while he parked the truck/SUV. We decided to just park right at the terminal -- it isn't cheap I think it was $70 or so for the time we were gone, but since it was our first time, we decided to pay it for the convenience and b/c we knew where that was as opposed to trying to find where the shuttle parking lot is located.

While waiting to board we met one of the Dissers from the FE (Fish Extender, more on that later) who recognized pics of my kids. We probably waited about 45 minutes to get through the line. There were characters in nautical gear, tvs showing cartoons, etc.

Off through the magic ears and onto the ship!

We went to the kids club right away to register/check in and get their arm bands for the girls. Oh, my!! If I didn't know that DCL was something special just by looking at the ship from the outside ... I definitely knew it from the kids club.

First, during regular operating hours, you can drop your kids off at any time. No need to register a certain time. In fact, you could leave your kids in the club ALL day, if you wish. Of course, I wouldn't do that (even if Rachel wanted me to!) but unlike other cruise lines, they guarantee that there will be coverage for your kids, anytime!!

This certainly allows for those unexpected 'adult' moments -- clubs, shows, classes, etc that we might wish to do.

So walking in the kids club, it is incredible! First it was huge, had about 6-7 different rooms and was colorful, magical and cool.

Here is one of the rooms with computer games, table for coloring, etc

Here is Andy's Bedroom -- larger than life size Toy Story characters, Andy's bed, etc. Just a great area to climb around in. If you look past Elie and me in the photo and out the door, you can see the main Kids Club area, with cool lights that turn into a game, a stage, etc. This is also where characters come to meet the kids. Believe me, I was wishing that I could stay in the kids club!!

I knew Rachel would be totally fine in here but was a bit unsure of Elie, esp at not quite 4yo. However, she found lots to do as well and although they were in the clubs together, they didn't hang out all the time either but found there own things to do. I was very proud of both of them.

So off to Cabanas for food -- this was a seafood buffet at the top of the ship and it was exactly the right start. Breezy, sunny, and shrimp, crab legs, fish, fruit, etc. The only downside was that the waiters were very pushy about selling us a tropical, alcoholic drink. These were not included in the cruise price and although I love me a tropical umbrella drink, I also knew that DCL is not cheap and part of us doing DCL was that we wouldn't be able to do a lot of extras. But believe me, we didn't need to as they had free sodas, lemonade, juice, etc. We just had to walk over to the machine to get it. No biggie.

After lunch, we changed into swimsuits and rode the AquaDuck. Elie didn't like the water on her face and cried. but this was cool. I'm sure you've seen pictures -- it's a water coaster on a raft that goes out over the ship and around the ship. Very cool!

It started to get a bit cool by now, after all it is January, so we went to see if our room was ready and it was.

The room is small but very well designed and organized with lots of little niches to hold your personal items...two bathrooms -- one with sink and toilet and another with sink and shower. We opted to get a room with a balcony so we could enjoy it when the girls are napping or sleeping. It was a great option and I'm so glad we chose to do it.

Here are the girl's beds

We decorated our door and hung up our FE -- Fish Extender that Jerry had created. Jerry is Darth Vadar, I am Ariel, Rachel is Rapunzel and Elie is Sleeping Beauty. The concept is that you arrange ahead of time to become sort of like a Secret Santa and give gifts to others in your group during the cruise. Gifts can be anything from candy and Dollar Store items to homemade jewelry, photo albums, Disney pins, coasters, etc. Really, it's as much or as little as you wish it to be.

My girls LOVED this -- and so did I. You never knew what you were going to get!

Well since I was the organizer for our FE, I had to get to our FE meeting and Jerry went to the DVC presentation to pick up our goodies! It was so great to meet my fellow Dissers from the FE. We had over 60 families participating so it was a great mix of people. I ran into a few people while on the ship or on the island and it was just nice to actually know someone else. I'm still FB friends with many of the folks from the FE and hope to meet up with them again!

After the meeting, we had to do the Muster Drill where they organize us into groups and tell us what we should do in the case of a "Titanic". Not that we will hit an ice berg, but still... This was a VERY serious part of the cruise and we were constantly 'hushed' to remain quiet. I think it lasted about 30 minutes maybe? It seemed to take forever. Next time we will bring our ipads along so the girls can play them while waiting.

Then we go back to our room to hang off our balcony and watch the DREAM pull out of the harbor/port. This was so much fun and everyone was "partying" from their balconies ... people at the restaurant/clubs along the path or on smaller boats would scream and shout and wave to us and we did the same back. This is some of the sights we saw along the way out of port.

At the very end, there was this older couple in their motor home who had a musical horn and they blew it at us and everyone cheered. It was so incredible and worth the price of the balcony right there. Also, we were on the 7th deck so when the Sea Gulls and Pelicans flew by, it looked like we could just reach out and touch them!

Dinner, pics with Capn Mickey,

dropped off our Photo Mats with Guest Services to be signed by the characters, girls went to kids club while Jerry and I wandered the ship and then off to bed. I ordered Room Service (free, just tip) and ate it out on the balcony while the girls slept.

Finally bed for me, too.

Today is Friday, January 18th and we go to Nassau.

Now I know many, many people are so tired of Nassau and most just stay on the ship in dock. But we really wanted to go to Nassau if for nothing else so that our girls could visit their first new country.

We slept in until 7am and watched the ship pull into port and turn around. This is a feat not easily accomplished but the captain did a great job and once again, we were thankful for our balcony so we could watch all this action right outside our room. Here is the famed Atlantis resort.

We ate a late breakfast at Cabana's and then got off the ship and walked into town.

Notice the great color coordination!!

We made sure to get our Passports stamped with Bahamas -- the girls first stamp!

When preparing for the cruise, we had the opportunity to schedule a tour with DCL. The one we wanted to do (submarine ride) was all booked so we decided that we would just explore Nassau on our own. Many years ago, pre-kids, Jerry and I went to Ardestra Gardens and it was beautiful. It's a zoo and botanical gardens. So we decided to haggle for a taxi and go to the Gardens. There are lots of places to walk around, incredible foliage and flowers, animals, etc. I could spend the rest of the day showing you such beautiful photos!!

We fed apples to lorikeets (who certainly were not afraid of humans at all!!)

and Jerry got a photo of me being silly in front of this huge tree. I was recreating when Elaine from Seinfeld does her weird dance with the leg kicking out and all. I had told the girls to go dance but they didn't want to, so I thought I'd show them.

Little did I realize that Rachel actually got me on video, too -- ACK!!:rotfl2:

Then off to the reason everyone goes to these gardens -- to see the Flamingos march. They actually just wander all around this one area and you can go right up to them. But they also put on a show and have the flamingos march around.

Years ago, I was picked as one of the people to come into the ring, stand on one foot and have the flamingos march around me. So imagine my utter joy when Rachel and Elie were also chosen!!

Pay particular attention to their happy smiles, esp on Elie ... ok?

Now take a look at this photo ... what could have caused the big change?

Well for that you have to watch this video -- Yes, I am a very bad mama bc I take great pleasure in watching this. Makes me laugh every time. And yes, instead of being concerned, I am laughing on the video. Put me up for Mom of the Year Award.

Did you see my dear 3yo daughter just get chest-thumped by a flamingo?!?!? He totally went straight for her! But did you also see big, brave Rachel protect her little sister!

By this time, we were tired and it started to drizzle a bit, so we got a taxi and went back to the Dream to take a quick nap. Back at our room, the girls were excited to find all sorts of gifts for them and for us too! This is just a small sampling of gifts!

Tonight was Pirate Night, and since we love to dress up, we all did. Rachel decided that she wanted to be a Mermaid again (remember her mermaid transformation in July 2012 at the pirate league). Here we are at the Enchanted Garden dining room (did I mention that each night you eat in a different dining room?) and Rachel is doing her Mermaid "hiss"

As you can see in the background, not many other adults dressed up. Oh well, that didn't stop us!

Elie as a pirate

And Jerry

My full pirate outfit -- I made the tutu skirt myself just for this Pirate Night

After dinner, the girls wanted to go back to the kids club so Jerry and I toured the ship, rested in our room, went out to the main theater to watch a show called Villains Tonight which was really good and then we picked up the kids so we could all watch the fireworks off the ship. Then we were all a bit hungry so went back to Cabanas for a midnight buffet!!

We ran into Shelby and Rob (the people who we met at Port Canaveral and were part of our FE) and talked to them for a while. It was so nice and what a great day!

I can't believe our cruise is almost over -- only one more day!

In case you missed any updates, I'm keeping a list in the second post for all the updates.;)

I am really enjoying your cruise pics!!

I love the kids club. I wanna go play :rotfl:

Some of your photos cannot be seen. It says the image may have been moved or deleted, the first pic you posted of the big ship.

Just wanted to give you a heads up :thumbsup2:

The flamingoes video was great. Poor Ele , but what a great brave sister Rachel was protecting her :goodvibes

You all look great dressed up as Pirates, especially Jerry. So awesome :thumbsup2

that water slide sounds like so much fun. Can you go through it on a family raft or is it individual tubes for everyone?

AoA really is beautiful. We barely saw it last time; guess we need to get back and wander it next time we're out.

I thought we went over the Oasis pretty thoroughly last time, but I don't remember that bridge. :scratchin Guess we need to get back there, too!

Love my Disney Visa. Makes my indulgences at Disney completely painless. :upsidedow

Notice the great color coordination!!

Nice job! I'd noticed you were coordinated with Ursula earlier. ;)

Ardestra Gardens is the first non-Disney thing I've seen someone do on a cruise that tempted me. :thumbsup2

Very glad you came back to finish your report. Enjoying it muchly. :goodvibes Except for the missing pictures. :sad1:

The AquaDuck is a two seater, if I remember correctly and Elie just made the height cut-off (barefoot). I think you can go by yourself, too. We only rode it once but I hope to do it again more next year!

I still love the Flamingo video!

thanks for the head's up on the photos! I will redo.

Yay!! You made it here! Our you still working on your TR! I need to check it out, too.

Yeah, we can't wait to go back to AoA -- we explored it but I know there is still a LOT more to see!

AK Challenge: Find that shaky bridge!!:thumbsup2

Yes, I highly recommend Ardestra Gardens if you do Bahamas again. Disney offers it as part of a bus/history/fort tour but we just decided to do it ourselves so we could spend a lot of time there. I have tons more photos to show you -- there were so many beautiful nooks and crannies to explore and plants and animals to see.

Yes, I was doing a good Ursula -- down to my beach coverup!! :rotfl:

Thanks for your kind words...hoping to get those pics corrected and another day or two up today.

Here is the photo of our first look at the Disney Dream as we were driving off the main highway and approaching the terminal.

Our view as we left Port Canaveral from our balcony

From our balcony entering the port of Nassau.

This is the deluxe resort Atlantis! A funny story is that Jerry and I did a timeshare preview for this resort...and they ended up kicking us out! Not funny at the time but at the end we basically said we weren't interested and please give us our "free" prize for sitting through the spiel...the guy didn't like that and got in an argument with us about why we were wasting his time, etc.

We ended getting a weekend in Williamsburg for free but it certainly left hard feelings with us about Atlantis!

Cap' Mickey and me on the Dream

Lessons Learned for first days on ship:

1) Pack less for Boarding Day and wear swimsuits. We took our suits along with us but there were very few restrooms on the ship at the pool level and EVERYONE wanted to use them. We weren't familiar with the ship yet so waited in long lines to change. Next time, we will wear them!

Also, you wait for a while to go through security and board the ship, so anything you bring you have to carry. Next time, we'll bring less.

2) Order room service each day and earlier than you want it. Room service is popular on the Dream b/c it is FREE!!! (just tip) and they get backed up.

3) I'm glad we got off in Nassau. I know a lot of people don't like it (dirty, everyone harassing you for money, etc) but there are also wonderful places to go. We would definitely also go back to Ardestra Gardens ... well, maybe not Elizabeth!:confused3;)

4) Avoid Deck 5 bc it is crowded. Deck 6 balcony looks right over the life boats so your view isn't as good. We loved Deck 7.

5) Order PB&Js from room service the night before you go to Nassau so you can eat them while touring. We did this, and also grabbed a bunch of dried fruit from the breakfast bar and voila! we had a snack and didn't need to pay for food while at the gardens.

Today is January 19th and we go visit the much anticipated Castaway Cay!!:beach::beach::beach::beach::beach:

We decided to sleep in after our big pirate and fireworks night. We purposely did not schedule any activities for Nassau or Castaway Cay so we could just use the time to explore.

Here is our view from the ship of Castaway Cay -- don't you just want to go there now?!?

We went to Cabanas for breakfast buffet again -- it is just so lovely here! Lots of choices and you can eat outside or inside.

Then we got off the ship to go to CC. We took a tram to the first beach (there are 3) and decided to just start there. We walked around a bit, played games (ping pong, larger than life Connect 4, mini golf, watch large crab races (they were alive) and the girls played in the sand.

Here is the view up the first beach.

Note, there are not too many people in the water -- it is January and it is rather cool.

Someone from our FE (I forget who) gave us sand toys for our gifts and they were perfect!! I love this photo of Elie -- she had so much fun playing with them and I hadn't brought any sand toys, so it was perfect!

We ate a BBQ lunch that was 'ok'. I think we waited too long to eat and everything got overheated from being under the lights so long. But we certainly found food! Next time, we will get there sooner!

At this point, the girls wanted to go to the Kids Club at Castaway Cay (really cool looking area on the sand), so Jerry and I checked out Serendity Bay, an adults only area. We found some empty hammocks and just relaxed on them. Here is my view from the hammock looking up the adult-only beach. It was practically empty.

Then we went to Pelican Plunge to explore the area and take photos ... a nice pic of our ship.

We were two stories above the 5th lifeboat from the left.

It was getting later in the afternoon and we had an early dinner service, so we decided to work our way back to the ship. There were lots of places to pose:

At the ship, we took baths and a short nap. Rachel wanted to go to the kids club for dinner so we let her. Elie was still tired and came with us to dinner at The Royal Palace and proceeded to fall asleep in the booth (thankfully we had a booth!). Jerry and I ate duck, lobster, shrimp, steak -- yummy!

We then went back to the room to finish packing and watched one of the 'broadway' style shows from our tv in the room.

Jerry liked to wander the ship and take photos while the girls slept and I ordered something from room service and relaxed on the balcony. The water is just mesmerizing at night. Since it was January, it was still a bit cold, esp when eating a Mickey Ice Cream bar!

Today is January 20th and we had breakfast at 6:45am!! :scared: but had to be off the ship early so the crew can clean and get ready for the next passengers.

:sad::sad::sad::sad::sad::sad::sad:

We all agreed that we loved the DREAM and want to do it again. We decided not to book a new vacation right then, but knew it would be in our future. (Nov 2014, 4 night cruise!!!)

We originally only booked a 3 night just to see if we liked it and also b/c we still love going to WDW, too.

Lessons Learned - DCL
Watching the pelicans and sea gulls right off the ship was great! A balcony is a must for us, at least while the kids are little.

The ocean is truly mesmerizing, esp at night!

The kids club was excellent -- games, characters, decorate a pillow case, decorate cupcakes, arts and crafts -- and it was all included!

We rated the food a 3 or 4 out of 5. The Sea Bass and shrimp was definitely a 4!! Most of the rest of the meals were a 3. But that didn't stop us. Next time I will continue to order more than one entree and dessert, b/c chances are that one is better than the other but I don't know which to order ... so next time do both!

The night clubs were empty, at least when we went. But alas, it was early in the evening and I'm sure they were hopping after 11pm ... but kids were in bed so we couldn't enjoy the night clubs together.

The shows (3 different ones, Golden Mickeys, Believe and Villains Tonight) were crowded. Next time we will get there earlier. We missed the first but saw most of the other two. I really like Villains -- very funny!

The ship is colorful and pretty, esp compared to Carnival's Sensation and Miracle ships and Royal Caribbean's Liberty which were all docked next to us at some point.)

Ok, so back to January 20th.

After disembarking the Dream, we went back to AoA to pick up our groceries that we left with Bell Services' refrigerators and checked into BLT. Our room was not ready so we went to MK and rode Aladdin, BTMRR (Elie's first), Jungle Cruise and then lunch.

While at Cosmic Ray's, I got notice that our room was ready. Our first view was overlooking the marina on the 4th floor. This is the same view we had previously when we booked a "standard" (cheaper) room. This time we booked a "lake" (better) room so of course I complained and they offered me a view overlooking the pool and lake on the 6th floor.

Dinner was a Be our Guest again :cool1:. However, Rachel got sick again so Jerry took her back to the room. Elie and I walked around, rode IASW, Haunted Mansion, BTMRR and watched the fireworks. At this point, it is quite late for 3yo girl so we gave away our FPs for Buzz and went back to our room.

Disney decided to extend the park hours so Jerry then went out to the MK to take photos. I did laundry, watched the Electrical Water Pageant from our balcony (2x) and saw a movie before going to bed.

Today is January 21st, our last full day at WDW.

We woke early and walked over to MK in time to see the train show. We headed straight to Enchanted Tales with Belle and let me tell you -- everyone has to see this show at least once -- just to see that magic mirror doorway!! That still blows my mind!

Jerry was going to explain it to me, but I told him to stop. I just want to believe in the magic!

Jerry, Rachel and Elie all got picked to be in the show.

Jerry was Maurice's horse. Rachel was Maurice. Elie was the Beast!

We had a snack in Gaston's Tavern -- delicious!

After the show, we met Ariel

and caught up with our friends Mike & Deb and their grandchild and went to Be Our Guest for lunch. We liked dinner better. Then on to under the Sea, Winnie the Pooh (I know!!), Tea Cups, BTMRR, POC, TSI, visited Merida

and went on Buzz Lightyear. Look at my score:

We had an early dinner at Be Our Guest with Mike & Deb and then wandered around until the Dessert Party. This is a VERY yummy place!!

Today is January 22nd -- worst day of Disney...departure day.

We went to DTD and did some shopping, then drove to Sanford, FL to board the train.

At the afternoon wine and cheese reception, the worker just gave us a 1/2 opened bottle of wine to have after the reception was over!

I was very buzzed by dinner time!:rotfl2::thumbsup2

I decided to try the vegetarian purse for dinner but it wasn't that good. next time I will stick to the beef dinner which is always delicious!

We were tired and all went to bed by 7pm.

Next morning, we had breakfast at 7:30am and had a slight delay b/c one of the switches had frozen and the workers had to go out and manually change the switch with a sledgehammer!

After that, we pulled into Lorton uneventfully, but awfully cold!!

Next trip: Thanksgiving Day 2013!!!:hourglass
