i read that the movie theater was quite small but i remember it being pretty good size. has anyone ever gone to a movie that was totally full? was it a day at sea or a special movie?

I was on 10/10/03, Pirates OTC was playing.....it was standing room only. It was an at sea day. I was sitting in a folding chair in the back and there were people standing all around me trying to watch the movie. Another day we watched HOLES and we were almost the only ones in there.

Probably depends on how long the movie has been out in the theater. Pirates was a great movie and I would stand in the back to watch it again. Does anyone know how often they change movies? Sounds like anytime a Disney movie comes out, they will be showing it very soon onboard.

The current release Disney or Disney owned films will aways be onboard at realease if not a bit sooner. it's one of their policies.

hopelea gives a really good example, it's all about timing. We've been in that theater for packed shows and very empty ones. Days such as at sea when the weather outside isn't perfect would be times to avoid it. It is usually deserted on days the ship is in port.

Very much the same experience for us. We saw Brother Bear at sea and it was packed out. Saw Freaky friday at port and were 2 of only about 8 people in the whole theatre.

The Buena Vista Theatre is 268 seats. This is where most movies are showing.

Walt Disney Theatre is 975 seats. This is the live stage show theatre and "Prem-Ear" Theatre for newly released movies.

Barb has some pics of the Walt Disney Theatre stage on her site:

What is "normal" to you?

We saw My Big Fat Greek Wedding on a sea day in Jan 2003 (movie had probably been out about 6 weeks), and the theater was full. It's not the same configuration as a chain theater (like Lowes or Sony), but probably about the same number of seats. Most of the chain theaters are long and narrow, the Buena Vista theater is set up more like an old fashioned down town theater (the kind that had balconies), but is about 2/3 the size of the main floor area of the one we had growing up.

There's also a picture in the cruise version of the Passporter.
