DH & I went to see Star Trek tonight with 4 of his friends. Sun 7pm. I don't think there were even 30 people in the theater counting us 6.

Buying tickets was practically a walk up. Snack bar the same.

16 movies at this complex.....and really not many people around.

2 other ladies in the ladies room after the movie was out.

I don't go to the movies. I think the last time was Lilo & Stitch. I wait for video. However, tonight just amazed me at how empty it was. :guilty:

I am sad to say that I am not surprised. It has gotten so expensive to go to the movies these days. For what it costs us to go I can plan a whole day doing something really fun. We rarely go to the movies. It has to be something that the kids really really want to see. I know we will take them to see Star Trek though.

We saw Angels & Demons this afternoon and it was pretty empty as well. The reason why we do not go out to the movies as much anymore is because there always seem to be people who do not know how to behave in a theater and ruin the experience for us. Talking throughout the movie, letting young kids run around at rated R showings, crying babies, cell phone texting, blue-tooth headset wearing - light flashing throughout movie, on and on and on.

We actually had a pretty good audience today. Walking out we saw a couple going into Star Trek with a little baby. Hope the baby slept the whole time. It really is not fair to other in the theater if the baby coo'd and goo goo ga ga'd or cried the whole time.

I just prefer to watch at home so I can put the sub-titles on the screen. Often times, I can't understand what they are saying.

I did smuggle in my own water. And candy boxes were on sale at the grocery store for $1 also. ;)
DH HAD to buy popcorn & soda for himself however. men.

Well, supposedly motion picture revenues are up, so there must be people going somewhere. :)

We don't go too often either, it is just way to expensive. DD14 will go occasionally, but she has to use some of her own money, so it isn't as often as she would probably like.

My youngest two want to see Night at the Museum 2, when it comes out and have already told me they want to see it in the theater and not wait for the DVD. So that is one trip coming up, but probably the only one for us the rest of the year. :)

I haven't been in years. I like romantic comedies, like notting hill,4 weddings and a funeral etc. Or dramatic romance like the notebook or message in a bottle. Sadly all the movies are either action/horror/sci-fi or aimed at little kids. I can't stand any animated show, I never took my kids when they were little I made DH do it. My DH still takes the kids to the movies because they like all that stuff. He doesn't like what I like so I don't go. But my dh is now more selective on what they see after so many bombs. They have to be going to see something they really want to see, not just going to the movies for the hell of it. My DH has also cut way down on renting videos too. it isn't a cost factor I don't think there just isn't that much out there that interests him.

We love going to the movies, and it depends on when we go how crowded it is. If we go after church on Sunday it's usually crowded, but we try to go to a matinee during the week because I love empty theaters!

I only go to the movies when we're in Downtown Disney or Jersey. Here in Brooklyn I stopped going about 10 years ago. I got tired of all the idiots interacting with the screen saying "dont go in there your gonna die!!!" they must really think that people pay 10 bucks to have audience members entertain them, or else they just think their funny. The theaters wont tell them to shut up, so i stopped going here in New York. They are losing so much business not just because of that but because it costs too much money to go to the movies, when you can wait a month for it to be out on DVD.

Well, you did go on Sunday night . . . That is one of the deadest times of the week at the 24-screen theatre near me. When my DS worked there and we got free admission, we always went on Sunday late afternoon/evening to see blockbuster new releases b/c we could always get in (families didn't get tickets when a screen was sold out).

We saw Angels and Demons Saturday afternoon, and the theatre was not full. I would assume it was b/c most locals stay far away from that area during races -- the main road to the mall is rerouted to "to speedway only" before the race. Dh and I know the backroads, though . . . :rotfl:

We went to three or four movies that were totally packed during the Christmas season, though.

I went to the movies tonight to see that as well. It was really good.

My theater for this movie was full. I first walked into the one already playing by mistake and it was full. Not sure about the other 9 movies there playing. I went to the 6:10 showing...the one that started at around 5:20 was full as well. Not sure how the 7:15 was. but it is a Sunday night.

When I asked how the crowd was today at the theater why he was giving me the tickets he said they were busy all day.

I hardly ever go to the theater anymore, but on Friday evening the place I went for Star Trek with a number of people I know from church, and the place was pretty packed. Then again, this is a theater which is apparently so much nicer than the other theaters in the area (with the exception of the "Gold Class" snob theater that charges $30 a ticket, but that's another story) that this seems to the only place people I know go for movies anymore, even though there are at least three theaters closer to where most of them live. It's a 16-screen place in the middle of downtown Bellevue (a pretty affluent area) which includes an IMAX screen.

As for Star Trek, I thought it was pretty good, but my inherent nerdiness made it necessary to do some nitpicking. Hit my Blog link below if you want to read it, but there's major spoilers there, so don't read it if you haven't seen the movie yet.

I consider my self a some what frequent movie goer and it has been down lately. I went to the midnight premiere for X-men and it wasn't sold out. It was crowded, but not completely full. I think it has to do with the movies this summer. So many huge ones came out last summer, this summer seems a little less spectacular. I guess people are just waiting to buy or rent. Now a days if I wait until it comes out on DVD, I can get it for $5 more then to see it in the theaters. I'm sure that drives people away too.

Maybe the matinees were more crowded.

We went to see Star Trek around 2 and I found the theater to be more crowded than usual for an afternoon! Had to wait in line in the huge bathroom. I think Sunday evening just isn't all that popular.

And yes it is getting expensive to see a movie. I know it's not much, but our theater recently raised the rates by 25 cents. Every time they do that, it does start to add up.

DH and I went to a 10:45 showing of Angels & Demons on Saturday morning. I was surprised because the theater was half full--usually for that early matinee, we pretty much have the theater to ourself. As we left, there was a line of people buying tickets for other movies.

I think the problem is that there is very little worth seeing at the theatre right now. Star Trek has a following and I have seen some reviews for Angels and Demons, but beyond that the choices are thin.

I saw the 4:25 showing of Star Trek yesterday and the lobby was packed. The theater for Star Trek was about 3/4 full. We tried to go to Cheesecake Factory, thinking it wouldn't be so busy if we ate at 2:45, but it was at least a 25 minute wait.

Huh. DH and I went to the movies on Saturday night, and it was so crowded that we had to sit apart from each other!

The last movie we saw was Pirates of the Carribean: World's End in 2007. Before that it was Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire in 2005.

I would like to see...

Star Trek
T-Salvation
Half Blood Prince

I was saying the same thing last night.

We went to the 7pm showing of XMen.....WE were the only ones in the Theatre.
The theatre is a 6-plex in a Mall...and there were only a handfull of cars parked there.:confused3
