So, who else has or wants to move to the Orlando area? I'm sure this has been discussed many, many times here. But I am interested in seeing how many people have actually made this move or are getting ready to. My husband has been begging me for the past year (ever since his first trip to WDW) to move to Florida. After our visit last week, I am almost ready to start looking. I was thinking of relocating to Texas, but that can't happen because of my current job. Anyway, I think later next year I would like to seriously consider a move to Florida. Never before did I think I would want to leave NC, but now I just think it is time to move on.

No, WDW is not the major reason I want to move. I have lots of joint and muscle pain and I have noticed that when I am in Florida I do not experience anywhere near as much pain. A family member asked me if the reduction in pain could be because of less stress. The answer is no, because I was very worried about a few things while on vacation.

Sorry this is so long, but I really would like to hear if others are thinking about moving.

Your in my back door. I would love to go but I love the seasons and the snow we get. Would you not miss those beautiful fall leaves, the white silky snow, summers so cool airconditioning is not needed. These things I miss!
When I moved to Gastonia from that area I cried because I would miss the splendor of the mountains. You just don't know what you have until you leave it. You live in GOD'S country are you sure you would want to leave it all.

I had some interviews and temp work in Orlando a few months ago but put off a move. Now I am planning on looking into that again. I got a call today from a clinic owner in Orlando, so I guess I will start interviewing again soon. I just hope the house hunting is more fruitful this time.

It's not that I want to leave my mountains. I really do love it here. But to stop hurting so bad - yes, I would leave them but I would visit often. I don't know why I don't hurt as bad in Florida, but it has proven to be true every single visit there.

Well, goodluck what every you do:D

My husband and I were considering the move, we HATE Michigan, the snow, the lack of things to do...the list goes on. But the last time we went to Florida (Orlando area) We actually went to the malls and out to eat at the local places...Well, we HATED it!! We really did not like the type of "locals" we ran into! Just not our "cup of tea" I guess:D

Well, we may still move to Florida...just further from Orlando. But, we are also looking in other states (without snow) as well. I am just glad we spent some time with "the locals" before making a rash decision.

So, moral of the story....check the place out thouroghly, go to places you would go if you lived there...when your're not a tourist it may not be as great of a place....at least it wasn't for us:D

I like the Orlando area & I think it would be a nice enough place to live but I would miss the changing seasons.
Fantasia Girl-I'm sorry to hear that you hate MI. I love it here but that might be because I've never lived anywhere else;) IMO Michigan has a lot to offer.:D

My hubby, too would love to move to Florida. I'm not so sure, even though I love it too and again not just for WDW although being able to go whenever we felt like it would be pretty cool!LOL. I'm afraid though that without a major lottery/PCH win, with our Canadian dollar we'll never be able to do it. My son and I suffer from allergies and asthma and we find when we come down our allergies are not as bad and we don't have to take the daily medications that we have to take at home, yet as soon as we near the great north here they start back up again. I wonder, however, how we would manage in the very humid summers, even though it gets very humid here too. It's quite the dilemma. Good luck in your decisions.

I feel that N.C. is much more beautiful than Florida. If you love the humidity in the summer, then I guess that you'll be happier further south. Not for us :D :D

I live in the Orlando area and am originally from MA. I moved south back in 1994 to attend FSU up in Tallahassee, spent a couple of years in south GA and now am in Orlando. After being here for a while, I would suggest that those considering a move look at the big picture.

If you have children, you really need to research where you want to buy a house. Many of the schools in the Orlando area are not that good. The taxes and money available for schools has not been able to keep up with area growth. Many schools hold their classes in portables or temporary building and have HUGE class sizes.

You also need to be able to deal with a lot of tourists and part time residents. Once again, research where you want to buy your home. I have known people that bought in "short-term" rental areas not realizing that their neighbors would be changing every three weeks to a month. I also try and suggest that people look at a house somewhere near where they would like to work (or where they get their job). Most people I work with who commute a distance to work, get to work more stressed than their job would ever get them, or they go out of there way to take "back roads" just to avoid the I-4 traffic.

Fantasia girl...I would be interested to know what mall you went to...certain malls have more tourists than "locals" in them.

Orlando is a mix of people. There are very few "locals" who have actually grown up in the area. It is an area that has had a major influx of people from other states. However, for people who do not want to move to the Orlando area, I do think that there are some great areas in FL....many within a couple of hours of Disney.

Those part time residents live HERE the other times of the year. The one thing I don't understand about them is that they can't drive above 15 miles an hour on the roads here. But down there they fly!
