Mousekeeping

That's not the solution, the solution is for them to pay respect but wage that encourages people to work for them!
Disney has raised wages across the board and offered generous signing bonuses for entry level positions. There literally aren't enough bodies in Central Florida to staff the hospitality industry without robust legal immigration, even during "normal" times.

The labor shortage is a fact, and it's top-to-bottom. It has nothing to do with Disney paying insufficient wages. Every company is going through the same thing, whether they're trying to hire $15/hr. line cooks or $150,000 software engineers.

You seem very invested in defending Disney’s housekeeping cost cutting! What an odd cause to take. There are lots of hotels and resort areas providing much better housekeeping than Disney. The rack rates of disney hotels are incredibly high—Disney was able to figure out housekeeping in the past and they’ve been in the hospitality industry a very long time. I can assure you that if they wanted to, they’d find a way to provide much better housekeeping than they do now, where apparently you have to ask several times to even get your trash taken out.
Everyone is short staffed now. You seem to think that Disney is magical and can snap their fingers and fill every position instantly. To believe that Disney can just instantly fill all positions "if they wanted to" is hilarious. Especially for something like housekeeping. It's a crap job that people don't want to do. I have yet to see anyone say that they would happily do that job.

Because at Universal, they're only providing housekeeping to their top-tier hotels. The lower-tier hotels don't even get trash or towels unless they request it.

I am so laughing at all of the people that have always said that entry level workers get paid too much and that they dont deserve more money. Many of you wouldn't even tip housekeepers because "they're getting paid to do the job". But as soon as it starts to affect you personally, you all are saying "pay them more money". Lol

There are little multiple citations in this thread so perhaps read it if you want examples. I’ve also stayed in several hotels since Covid hit (but within driving distance) and all provided housekeeping, even back in summer 2020

This is just a strawman argument. I tip housekeepers every day of a hotel stay and have never said entry level workers get paid too much, but “lol”? I’m the first to admit that a housekeeping job is a very challenging position. And i think disney should prioritize it more. Disney resorts are in the *hospitality business.* Hospitality business has traditionally meant providing solid housekeeping services. If you want to spend your time making excuses for a billion dollar company, that’s your prerogative, but not everyone agrees 🤷🏻‍♀️

The Holiday Inn Express in Poughkeepsie isn't operating and staffing 36,000 rooms on a single site.

What a weird attempt at a burn. I’m sure Poughkeepsie is lovely and it sounds like you’re familiar with it as a vacation destination but I can assure you there are many attractive tourist destinations within driving distance of…Manhattan that are not a random upstate Holiday inn. Again, if you read the thread, you’ll see that disney is advertising a pay of $17/hr and that people have had to repeatedly follow up just to get their garbage bags picked up. If that’s the best service you think Disney can provide, okay, but it sounds like you have a particularly low expectation of their abilities. I don’t think pay can solve *everything* and i agree more visas are needed but better pay and prioritizing it could certainly help improve what they’re doing now.

What's really crazy to me is that we just returned (early this morning) from a week long trip at Shades of Green. While you don't have to mask at regular Disney resorts, you still do at Shaded. However, at Shades we got FULL housekeeping EVERY day. Man, it was nice and we had forgotten how much we miss it at Disney. Pretty sad Disney chooses not to provide housekeeping yet charge way more than Shades and other hotels.

Just for arguments sake; Shades of Green is directly across from the Polynesian at a fraction of the cost and was fully booked at capacity for the majority of the nights we were there.

We did not ask for housekeeping, yet they provided full housekeeping to all rooms, just as traditional practice.

New York City has about the same number of hotel rooms as Orlando. New York City has about 30 times the population of Orlando. One of those is much more able to self-supply their own labor force.

$17 an hour for a tipped entry-level position is not going to get anyone rich, but it's a decent working class wage.

I agree with the people that says it’s a hard , thankless job that’s hard to fill . It’s unbelievable how many people don’t tip housekeeping . I’ve heard so many people at conventions say they make enough I’m not tipping them . It’s a job no one is eager to perform . I feel like they of all the people you encounter on your vacation deserve a tip . Now we are stuck without housekeeping because you can’t fill the job .

British vlogger Adam Hattan did a trip in December and he wasn't aware of the changes in housekeeping. They discovered it on their second day returning to the hotel, they were informed there is a light clean every other day, and they change the linen every 10 days. As they were there for nine days, the manager offered to change the linen as well halfway through.

The very strange thing was, the beds weren't made, but they did get some towel animals. I'd rather have housekeeping making my bed, then spending time making a towel animal on an unmade bed.

Here is the bit where they discover about it:

And how dirty the floors are can be seen here. For sure, the rooms are not vacuumed (properly) in between groups.

Galactic Starcruiser is a 2 night experience so...

There was actually a very interesting article that spoke about how everything meant for Star Wars Land that was going to make it immersive was actually canned for "finanical" reasons, but now magically appeared behind this mega paywall.

So what you're saying is Holiday Inn Express realized they couldn't support larger operations so they didn't try to grow to quickly for the sake of profits?

You can have all the demand in the world, but if you can't support it, the answer isn't to keep growing its to shrink or sell until you get to a more manageable level.

Disney should be closing hotels and consolidating forces right now to provide service until they can hire more people. No one forced them to open all star before international workers were allowed back.

Yes. It's a crap job. I think that's the bottom line. The pay is not great. Despite everyone claiming that they tip housekeepers, the reality is that most guests do NOT tip. And on top of demanding management and difficulty in getting x number of rooms cleaned in an unreasonable amount of time, they have guests chewing them out every single day and treating them like servants. More than $20 would be nice, especially when they're expected to deal with guests who leave food and diapers and every possible bodily function you can imagine all over beds, towels, the floor, etc. Imagine dealing with that and then walking out into the hallway and Mom from the midwest chewing you out because you didn't make her bed.
