Does anybody else have Mousekeeping coming in their room every single day of vacation? Why are they doing the trash every single day? Also they moved something that my mom intentionally keeps on the floor. We know there are some days that they are in our room multiple times. This evening Mousekeeping came barging in, despite them doing trash this morning. What’s going on? I’m really getting annoyed. I know they can come in any time but every single day and multiple times is nuts.

Could be a security check. Only way for them not to come in when your 'home' is flip latch on door.
They will come in in other wise. You gave no choice. You signed over that right once you checked in.

I’m fine with security check but every single day and multiple times a day is nuts.

i ended up going down to front desk. Mousekeeping is supposed to record every time they go into a room, they recorded once but have been in our room 9 times in 7 days.

We Only had it once a day as far as we know. We keep door lock on when we are in the room so thst can’t get in while we are there without us opening it.

I am sorry it’s happening this much for you.

Haven't stayed since this began. If they come at inconvenient time (sleeping, shower, etc...) & the latch is on, can you ask them to return when you're dressed? I find that very upsetting if/when travelling alone.

I can't imagine you could not. I have only had it happen once when I was in the room, but it wasn't a big deal...even alone...came in, took out the trash...and left. Other than that, it has always been done when we were goin during the AM or PM hours.

The multiple times per day would definitely be annoying. Sorry that is happening to you. However, I do like the daily trash service. With teenage daughters our trash seems to fill up quickly, so the daily service keeps our room cleaner and more organized. Your report is helpful, though. When we are at WDW in February we will lock the door while in the room.

A while ago DVC announced, trying to make it sound like a plus, that they'd decided to take out the DVC guests' trash every day. In reality, we were already in the habit of taking the trash out every morning on our way to the bus stop.
The reality for us is that the daily visits from housekeeping is annoying-and in reality you know they're just checking for safety/security reasons.

We did the same. As a guest, I feel MY safety & security is compromised the more I'm forced to allow ANYONE into my room, especially if I'm travelling alone. Anywhere. The idea that a quick "taking trash out" allows a Mousekeeper to scan the place for dangerous objects is beyond absurd. :headache:

You absolutely can. They came when my wife was asleep and I asked them quietly to come back. I have had to do that a few times in the past few years (she's a napper) and it's never been a problem except once.

The problem is that at one time we did this, they "forgot". Then they called us at 10pm at night waking us both up and telling us they forgot to do the room inspection and needed us to let them in so they could do it really quick. The mousekeeper was very apologetic and said she told her manager that we were asleep, but her manager told her to wake us up.

The prompted me visiting the guest services manager that night (the mousekeeping manager was too chicken to talk to me herself) and a very, very nasty letter to guest services which he helped me with that was passed to DVC Management who called me back. The point of my letter being - if you "miss" an inspection, call us by 7pm or some reasonable time; but there needs to be a reasonable cutoff (and 10pm is not reasonable). I was clear that the only thing I wanted back from my letter was a change / clarification to the policy.

They assured me that there was supposed to be one, and that there would be more training and reminders to that effect.

Thanks for sharing that. If I'm on one of my solo trips, I will NOT allow anyone to enter when it's dark out. Full stop. If they insist, I'll have them wait until someone from front desk or GS comes to accompany Mousekeepers.

That's a reasonable solution to their absurd & unsafe policy. The notion that every Cast Member is trustworthy bc it's Disney was disproven in my local media when I lived 15 min away for 5 years. They do run fingerprint checks when hiring, but after that, it's like employees everywhere. Most just fine, but bad apples happen.

The “security” check is such a joke anyway.
I could hide all sorts of bad stuff in the room (closet, drawers and suitcases to name a few) and they’d never know it. I was at the HH resort a few weeks ago, and housekeeping would knock on the door and just ask us if we had any trash to give them. They didn’t even come in the room. If we weren’t there, most of the time only one of the 4 trash cans in the room would get emptied - usually the one closest to the front door. Having said that, the housekeepers there were some of the nicest and friendliest folks that I’ve met at a Disney resort. I’m sure they don’t like doing these checks either. Just think if something bad like Las Vegas should happen and the housekeeper didn’t see it because the guest had hidden the weapons. I sure wouldn’t want that “security” check responsibility.

While these checks are annoying, keep in mind (as most of you have) that it is Disney policy not that the resorts' housekeeping or managerial staff. The standard is that each room, each day should be checked and trash removed. As with any company or resort or business, sometimes communication between various elements--say, housekeeping and custodial--is lacking. That such a drop in service plays out when any guest is there certainly isn't desirable nor intended...but it is inevitable given human nature.

Take a smaller resort with, say, 120 rooms. That's over 43,000 rooms in use/available over the course of a year. Assuming a fair number of those rooms are turned over with check-ins or taken out of inventory for deep-cleaning, maintenance, etc., you're still going to have upwards of 20,000 room checks annually--a staggering amount. Expecting any group (in this case, resort CMs) to perfectly do their jobs is unreasonable. Now, that being said, if you have concerns or when problems arise, certainly contact management to smooth out the issue or reach a reasonable compromise.

Housekeepers and other CMs who do the inspections should knock three times, loudly, before entering a room with enough time in between to allow someone to get to the door by the end of the third knock and wait. They won't always do this if rushed. They should also not be just asking to take trash if you're in the room--the requirement is to have the guest step outside or tell them a time to come back later when they won't be in the room. Again, sometimes the CMs are rushed, have had a bad day, or are simply fatigued to the point of skirting guidelines. I'm not excusing them, just admitting they, too, are human. And, no, it's not a fun duty. Imagine knocking on 50+ doors on any given day. The CM hopes no one is in so that she/he can do the job quickly and efficiently. However, if only 2 in 10 are in the rooms, that's 10 people to try to get them to understand the CM is only doing a job and hoping none of those 10 will get cranky about it (small odds there).

As for the benefit, usefulness, or absurdity of the procedure? Again, that's a Disney policy so make your voice heard. Be aware, however, that dangerous items and concerns are found almost daily across the spectrum of resorts. Just because you think they're silly or you would never do something like that (or that you would hide things) doesn't mean everyone does. All of this to say, yes, it's annoying and, yes, it can be disruptive and, yes, the procedure doesn't work correctly all the time. However, in the end, there is a purpose behind the checks.

Yes, so if you want be annoyed and disrupted on a daily basis stay at a Disney Resort.

Housekeeping is not supposed to come “barging in” without knocking, pausing, knocking again. We always Keep the room double locked when we are in it, along with the “room occupied” sign, because sometimes (especially in a 1 bedroom) you don’t hear the knock. Sometimes DH will opt for a nap while I want to stroll around or go to a park. He still locks himself in and keeps his phone near him so I can call him to let me in. On a few occasions we’ve had housekeeping call on the room phone in the afternoon if they haven’t been able to access the room....a couple of times they’ve left a message too. That may have been when we inadvertently left the room occupied sign on the door and if they don’t get an answer to their knock they move on to the next room.

“Multiple times a day” ..... 9 times in 7 days. So that is once a day for 5 days and twice for 2. So daily trash/room check and one day also included change of towels and toiletries and coffee. And they could have gone into the hallway to dump trash in their bigger bin and had to reopen the door. Or maintenance could have gone in to check on a previous problem.
Don’t get me wrong.....I trust nobody anymore. I keep all personal items stored away, valuables in the safe, etc. Housekeeping and maintenance never know when a guest will return and surprise them.

Staying as a member of DVC on points is different than staying in a regular resort room or a regular hotel anywhere in the US. Since we don’t get regular daily housekeeping, the solution (thanks to a sick individual in Las Vegas) for a DVC stay was to implement the daily trash/security check. We used to keep the do not disturb sign on the outside of the door 24/7 except on trash and towel day. Part of the deal being DVC was to take your trash and recycling to the trash room as needed.
Staying as a regular resort guest, you get daily housekeeping as part of your room cost. So they come in on a daily basis anyway. For a while I think they were offering regular resort guests a gift card for not having daily housekeeping? But probably still did trash...don’t know have not stayed as a regular resort guest for more than one night in 20 plus years.
It is such a shame that a few sick people that cause murder and mayhem have to change they way an entire country does things. Remember the Tylenol tampering. Although the result of that was tamper proof bottles etc. which still is an inconvenience but a safer way.

Until recently, I lived 15 min outside WDW for 5 yrs.
(It still took up to an hour with traffic too often :drive::rotfl2:).

Probably 80-90% CMs live in local counties. I had several close neighbors who were GREAT CMs

No question that 90% CMs are WONDERFUL humans.

But NOT every one.
I won't post here the news items that most don't want to see.
WDW security concerns are NOT only weapon related.

I will say that as someone who sometimes travels alone, MY SAFETY & my sense of safety is as important as Disney's fear of liability lawsuits.
Therefore, I will be very cautious about who enters my room, when & the extent of their "Security Check." I hope everyone is.

And let's not forget our COVID concerns, too.

PS. Obv, unless Mousekeepers call police & THEY have reason to search, Mousekeepers won't be nosing thru our luggage, drawers, computers? Right? RIGHT????

So "hidden weapons" wouldn't be found anyway.
