Mousekeeping Tip Questions?????

I do not tip housekeeping, as it is not a tipped position. If your room is not properly cleaned it is not because you didn't tip, it is simply a matter of someone not doing their job and it should be brought to the manager's attention. Now, if someone from housekeeping went out of their way to do something extra special for us, then I would offer an appropriate gratuity.

My thoughts exactly. Well put.

We tipped daily, in "For our Mousekeeper: Thank You!" envelopes. We had an impeccably clean room, and got towel animals every day, and a note on the last one saying to take it home with us. I don't think the room would have been less clean had we not tipped, but judging by nearby windows, we were getting the lion's share of towel critters, lol. At any rate, I always appreciate coming back to a clean room and $4-5 a day seemed an appropriate thank you.

Mom2Taylor&Emily, I tip daily. It's what I normally do at any other hotel we stay in and based on the envelopes that are left behind (non-Disney hotels), the housekeepers do vary day to day. Not sure how they work at Disney, but daily tipping is just habit to me. There is definitely no right or wrong way. As you can see, everyone has their own reasons behind why they do it their way and they're all fine. Do what you are comfortable with.

5Boyz, here's the Allears link and go down to #5.

we tip daily and put the money in an envolope with a disney pic on it that says mousekeeping

Thanks Tammi!!! going off topic slighty.....Dining....I don't like being told that I have to leave an 18% gratity at the end of my Character Meal!!! You shud not be told what to tip anywhere, that is totally up to the individual.

This seems to be common practice in a number of places, not just Disney. I'm used to it with room service, but one hotel that we frequent quite a bit in our area, automatically adds the gratuity to the bill in their bar and on site restaurant.

Meanwhile, there are some folks here in the US that would like to see an end to the whole gratuity-business at restaurants -- having the full cost of service rolled into the menu prices, just like the full cost of service for housekeeping is rolled into the room rate. It's not clear to me that there is any consensus about tipping in this country. What is clear, however, is that each job needs to be compensated at a rate commensurate with what is necessary to provide sufficient incentive for workers to do a good job. Whether the 18% is rolled into the menu price, tacked on as an automatic gratuity, or added on as a voluntary gratuity, the money still gets spent the same.

We always tip daily
3-5 a day
We do it daily.

I traveled for my last job for 11 years.
I feel it is worth tipping.

There are three of us and we tip 3.00/day. I read the envelope tip here on the boards and I fill them and just write Thanks and have a great day on them. Our rooms have always been spotless and the tips appear to be very much appreciated. We always had enough supplies etc as well as extra towels and some towel animals and other cute things(pictures hung up in windows etc.)that were done for my daughter. To me these are very thoughtful jestures. I think on the whole it is a Thankless job and I am grateful for their hard work!
