I know I read on here that tipping Mousekeeping is not mandatory, but most people tip $1 per person per day. I am just curious how many people do not tip and if you do not tip are your rooms less clean?

We are staying in the suites at Music in October family of 6 with three year old triplets and a 7 yr old ds. Should I tip $6 per day or is $5 enough or should I be doing more since it is a suite?

our first trip to disneyland in 2002 we did not tip mousekeeping. We are from australia and do not tip housekeeping here(hey we dont have to tip lots of other people but another story)
Even though we did not tip, we still had beautiful kept rooms, toys arranged, towel animals etc.
We are now aware of such things and do leave tips. We did know to tip restaurants etc etc etc just not housekeeping on a daily rate, so please forgive my pure ignorance.

My first stay on-site, I forgot to tip the first couple of days, but remembered the rest of the trip. Either way, our room was clean and towel animals to boot daily.

my experience is that you will not get better service for tipping or worse service for not tipping.

We usually tip at the end of our trip- and our room at the WL was always tidy and we rec'd towel animals (which I will admit the kids weren't really that excited about and I ended up disassembling them and using them as washclothes! Maybe I should have sold them on ebay!). From the boards here, it seems like a toss up as to whether you get better service if you tip every day.

Thanks! Do you think $5 is enough per day in the family suites?

Chrissy 5.00 is plenty to leave. You sound a lot like myself, you probably pick up in the room prior to leaving anyway. I do as it is easier to come back an know where I left things. I alsways like to leave the dirty towels etc in the bathroom all together so they will all be replaced. I just leave the tip as it is a nice thank you for picking up after me and my family. I leave one everyday as sometime the mousekeepers change due to days off etc and I want to be sure that each one who helps to make our stay more comfortable receives the thank you. We don't do it to receive anything, just a thank you. Go to allearsnet.com , there are some nice mousekeeping envelopes on there. My DGD enjoyed putting them together and placing the tip in the ahead of time. That way we were always ready. We left them on the pillow so the moursekeeper would be sure to see them. Have a great trip and enjoy the new suite. :sunny:

At WDW I usually tip $3 - $5 each day for 4 pp. (depends on how many dollar bills I have that morning). Whether traveling on vacation or business, I always tip housekeeping. Usually leave it with a note asking for something extra like towels, shower caps, etc. I don't think the rooms are any cleaner, compared to when I didn't know about tipping. I just think they do a great job and want them to know I appreciate it. :)

I had always thought it was expected; that was until the GM of the BoardWalk set me straight. I never noticed a specific difference in the level of service I got between when I did tip and when I didn't. It seems to have no impact.

Please forgive my ignorance, we tip mousekeeping but do you also tip the turndown person in the evening? As I stated in another post we are new to the concierge level so I really don't know what the proper thing to do is. :wave2:

We usually leave $1-2 for turndown simply because I can't imagine not leaving something. I'd feel too guilty otherwise. :)

We tried to leave a tip one day and when we got back to our room that evening the money we had left was still on the night stand, so we figured they didn't accept tips. So this time when we go we will leave a note telling them what a great job they do.

Ok do you just leave it on the nightstand with a note or another enevelope? I have started filling our other mousekeeping enevelopes for our July trip. :cloud9:

Chrissy, tipping amounts are definitely a personal choice. When we stay in standard hotel rooms, I usually leave $3 - $4 dollars per day. When we stay in a suite resort, with an additional room, I increase it to $5 - $6 per day. It all depends on whether or not I had to time to make up the sofa bed and clean up the kitchen counter. I'm just happy not to be the one emptying the trash and replenishing towels for a change :teeth: .

Kaseyoz, we are learning that there are some definite differences in tipping around the world. In some places, it can be considered an insult to tip. As Disney is a very popular spot for tourists of many countries, I'm sure they are sensitive to this.

mlholster, turndown is done by a different staff member, so we usually leave a separate envelope on the nightstand (bathroom sink for housekeeping). My own personal rule of thumb, is to tip based on the number of beds they are turning down, or a $2 minimum if it's just DH and myself.

Even without tipping, one should expect good service. I think tipping should be a thank you for providing that service, as in " I'm just happy not to be the one emptying the trash and replenishing towels for a change", or as an add-on for what you consider exceptional service.

I leave it on the bed with a note saying "thank you". We only do the decorated envelopes for housekeeping.

Indigo Do you know where on allearsnet.com I can find the mousekeeping envelopes? I am on there right now but don't know where to look. I am computer duh!! LOL!! Thanks!!

Thanks for the great advice. I am going to make envelopes up ahead of time. I am definately one to clean up after ourselves. I know I will leave the towels in a corner toghether, probably make the beds and put all trash in the trash can. I just am trying to figure out extra expenses since we won this trip. I know I am paying for two extra hotel nights, two extra tickets, food for 6, and two more plane tickets. So I will also need tip money, stroller rental money and anything else????

Ok, everyone has had great advice on tipping, but now I have a subsequent question. Do you tip at the end of your stay, the beginning or daily? Why do you tip that way? I am curious as we don't want to do anything wrong!

When we stayed at POP we always tipped $20.00 at the end of our stay.

For our trip last month, at CBR, we decided to start tipping daily & left $5.00 each day of our 9 day stay. We tip because we know that the Mousekeepers need the money more than we do & we know that cleaning up after people is a really crappy job.

We decided to tip daily instead of at the end of our stay because you never know when your regular mousekeeper will have a day off.
