Mousekeeping ~ suggested tip amount?

We recently had a split stay. Only 3 nights at each resort so nothing was done in the rooms beside taking the garbage on 2 days, probably when they came in for security check.

It’s getting harder to remember to tip just because out of sight, out of mind. I still felt the need to tip because both rooms were very clean on arrival. Somebody is doing a good job. We went through alot of supplies the first day at 2nd resort so the next morning I called with a list of things (towels, shampoo/conditioner, coffee, sugar, spoons, cups, etc), and they brought them to the room 15-20 minutes later. They asked for specific amounts on the phone, which they brought along with a few extras.

2 days we tipped $5, plus $10 on each of our check out days and to the person who brought up supplies. $40 to housekeeping over 6 mornings For 2 of us in a studio.

I don't know how it ever became "customary" that you tip the person that spends five minutes taking your bags from the lobby to your room, but not the person that vacuums your floors, changes your sheets, makes your bed, gives you fresh glasses, refills/cleans your coffee station, scrubs your bathtub, scrubs your toilets, restocks your towels, restocks your soap, restocks your toilet paper, and takes out your trash......... but this is completely bass ackwards.

If a housekeeper isn't worthy of a tip I really don't know who is.

At a deluxe we leave $15/day and $5 for turndown service if it is available. Make sure if you are tipping you do it EVERY DAY because your housekeeper may change so if you leave a tip the last day it might go to someone who only cleaned your room once and all the other days.

Caveat for me is I have not been there since the pandemic so my tipping is/was based on full service on a daily basis.

Housekeeping agreed in their last contract to be classified as non-tipped in exchange for a higher hourly rate, more than park workers. Bell Services has a lower hourly rate classified as tipped.
Exactly.
You tip the bartender in an airport bar. You don't generally tip a flight attendant who serves you a drink. You tip a person who checks your luggage curbside but not inside the airport.

Housekeeping, at WDW, isn't a tipped position. Tip what you want but don't judge those you don’t.

Well that’s interesting that they make more than park workers. Makes me wonder if they can’t hire enough workers or they’re so skimpy on hiring that they’re pushing their hires too hard and losing them. I would be 0% surprised at the last one. If they used the park reservation system to slim back park staffing, and all budget decisions came from Chapek and his #2, it would make sense there was immense pressure on Disney hotels to slim down headcount as much as possible as well- and housekeeping is the easiest place to slash headcount.

Leads me to a inquiry…

Are Disney Hotels currently the worst hotels in the Orlando area for housekeeping services? I’ve only stayed at a couple other hotels there in the last year so I can’t draw a conclusion and am honestly interested in other’s experiences at surrounding hotels.

I tip $3/day but we don't leave a mess, don't eat in the rooms, etc. I leave it every day, not at the end of the trip. If you leave it at the end of the trip, there is no guarantee that the person who cleaned your room is the person receiving the gratuity.

I think not enough people leave gratuities. I did once (just $3 in an enveloped labelled "Mousekeeping - THANK YOU!") & Mousekeeping literally left a little trash can bag filled with soaps & shampoos, etc. My friend & I just laughed -- after we realized what it was. At first, we thought the CM had forgotten to take her supplies, but then realized she was just a little overwhelmed & didn't know how to thank us.
