Mousekeeping ~ suggested tip amount?

What resorts are you guys staying at that you received excellent mousekeeping?

We were at CSR for 9 nights and got trash removed twice with new towels. We also received more toilet paper once. They didn’t make any beds or wipe anything down or do anything else.

Back in the day (pre Covid) we used to leave $5 a day plus $10-20 on checkout day. That’s when they made beds and actually cleaned daily.

Agreed, got some fresh towels and trash removed at Pop over 5 days, but nothing else. I probably could've handled that much with a quick trip to the towel closet and garbage can if permitted LOL

How often did they replace your towels at POP? Trying to figure out when I need to hang towels to dry and when to place them on the floor for replacements. We requested every other day service but it sounds like people aren't even getting that.

You can call for fresh towels at any time. Disney is supposed to do the every other day thing but they are horrible at actually doing it on that schedule. In my experience the reality of their schedule is entirely unpredictable.

I don't know how it ever became "customary" that you tip the person that spends five minutes taking your bags from the lobby to your room, but not the person that vacuums your floors, changes your sheets, makes your bed, gives you fresh glasses, refills/cleans your coffee station, scrubs your bathtub, scrubs your toilets, restocks your towels, restocks your soap, restocks your toilet paper, and takes out your trash......... but this is completely bass ackwards.

If a housekeeper isn't worthy of a tip I really don't know who is.

At a deluxe we leave $15/day and $5 for turndown service if it is available. Make sure if you are tipping you do it EVERY DAY because your housekeeper may change so if you leave a tip the last day it might go to someone who only cleaned your room once and all the other days.

Caveat for me is I have not been there since the pandemic so my tipping is/was based on full service on a daily basis.

Seems odd to tip someone that makes a salary. They should be making a fair wage as is especially with rates that customers are paying. I do understand that wait staff's pay rate is low because tipping is expected but I don't think housekeeping is that way.

We stayed at ALK last month. We never had house cleaning come into our room in 5 days. They knocked once and asked if we wanted more towels and turned them down. We tipped $20 on the day we left.

I tend do do this - leave the tip when I leave - and I always wonder what happens with it. Does the housekeeper for that day take it all? Are they supposed to pool all the tips for a week? Do I really need to leave a smaller tip every single day (probably yes, right?) and I always forget. And even when I try to remember, I forget. Until the end of the trip. Ugh.

Generous. I tend to always tip, but IDK if I would tip in this situation. It just starts to feel like enabling.

But that being said I might also talk myself into how bad they must have it that they couldn't even clean the room once (i.e. severely understaffed) and then maybe tip for that not being their fault

I don't tip at all anymore. They don't do anything. Even if I don't decline housekeeping they hardly ever come with any regularity and when they do they don't do anything but change towels and take out the garbage. They get paid by Disney to clean my room after I check out. I use to tip 2 dollars per person per day and then 20 dollars on the last day.

It dosen't matter if Disney had more than enough housekeepers to employ, this amenity will never return to normal, with the possible exception of CL rooms.

What is this magical service of which you speak?

It might not be magical but it is very hard work and that still needs to be considered .
I was one that always tipped.
I just can’t anymore because … nothing is being done to TIP.
I have been completely stripping the beds before I depart… that is why I know how hard this job really is!
Those mattresses are very heavy . I would not want this job .
If the small cash thank you does not fit into your budget Please reconsider.
. I will be tipping once again and also will continue to strip the beds to remind myself It is not their fault Disney is changing and retraining the guests to expect less for more.
I am mad at Disney, not housekeeping.

I do tip a few dollars a day for Mousekeeping, but this is an example of where do you draw the line. Our custodians at work do most of these things listed and no one leaves them a few dollars on their desk each night. Why is cleaning a hotel room something you should tip for, but cleaning an office is something you don't?

It soon might be! Tip culture is growing by the minute. Especially with these Square payment systems. Every vendor turns the thing around to me on the tip screen like “So…”

It’s become uncomfortable and quite honestly it can get expensive, and I’m not always sure how to handle it. I feel like it’s enabling companies that we are now subsidizing wages for THEIR employees. I also feel like it’s no longer connected with going above and beyond, but instead expected. Like even if a vendor pours me a black cup of coffee that screen turns around like “Sooooo????” Lol

I'll start tipping again when my room starts being cleaned again. Nobody tips me to do my job and it's a hard job based in customer service. They only clean my room after I leave which isn't going above and beyond for me it's cleaning the room for the next guest.

They use to be tipped because I always had clean sheets and towels and things organized and coffee replaced, surfaces wiped, floors swept and some sometimes a towel animal. Now none of that happens. They get paid for what they do

I haven’t stayed onsite since covid but for all hotels I leave $5 per day. If no one comes I just leave it for the next day. I can’t remember ever having a problem with service as long as someone actually comes.

Honestly I think that $5 means a lot and probably has an impact on item restocking etc. I’ve had housekeepers see me in the hallway and thank me which is almost embarrassing. It’s so little in the scheme of things.

We are usually in a GV and leave $5 for cleanings during our stay and $20 at check-out (there is always a lot of cleaning up and leftover food in the kitchen).
