Mouse keeping--is this just an issue at Poly?

Just got back from a stay at the Poly. We go at least once per year. We tend to be out of the room in the mornings, like to come back and relax in the rooms in the later afternoon and then head back to the parks at night. We just left after a 7 night stay, and could not help but notice how long it took each day to get our room serviced. We would often come back tired at 3PM, and find our room still not serviced. We always felt like we immediately had to clear out and head to the pool so they could come in and do it.

One afternoon when it still was not done by 5, we had to call, and they had forgotten about us. At the pool we noticed DVC members complaining a lot about the housekeeping, ones staying in the bungalows saying they got skipped even on day 4, etc. they shared with us that Disney was contracted out its maid service and this is why the service has gone so downhill. We were just at the boardwalk over Christmas busy week, and had no issues at all.

Anyone hear about this "contract out"? Is this just a Poly thing? I must say we lost our "Poly love" after this trip, particularly for the price you pay. The monorail was often hot and overcrowded to boot.

May be just your luck. We don't use them but once or twice a trip so it's never an issue.

We were just at the BC for 9 nights at the end of July. Mouse keeping was fantastic. The rooms were serviced early in the day (around 10 am). One day we slept in and they asked us what time we would like for them to come back. They did a really good job of cleaning each day and leaving extra coffee, shampoo, etc.

I've heard Poly housekeeping can be hit or miss. Our last stay it was good. I have the same schedule. Park in morning, afternoon break etc. I phoned housekeeping and requested morning clean.

We just got back from the Poly too and our rooms were never serviced before 3pm, sometimes not even until 5pm. I didn't love it. What I disliked even more was how disgusting the hallways and elevator were.

What was disgusting?

Our room at Beach Club in 2014 was often not cleaned when we would pop back in hotel room at 3 and once we had to call for service.

What was disgusting?
Trash laying around on the floors in the AM and still there when we got back at dinner time. The carpet needed to be vacuumed - little pieces of something all over the carpet.....for days. The elevator was always dirty too. The emergency call cover was hanging off the elevator wall for days.

Gross.

We are staying there in October, I won't look down when I walk! :rotfl:

Our issue last week at Coronado was their not replacing clean paper cups for coffee/glasses/mugs/towels ... also provided 3 decaf coffee K-Cups and just 1 high test, we had to rock-paper-scissors for it the first morning. Easily fixed with a phone call and a note.

Did you make a formal complaint? For the outrageous price they charge I hope you did. It's a dream of ours to stay at the Poly, but I have seen a lot of negative things about it lately. It concerns me that changes have not been made.

We are staying at Poly in a few weeks and we take afternoon breaks. But we will stay in our room and if they come, we will just ask for towels and toiletries and send them on their way. I don't really love having them in the room anyway so it works for me to just be there and decline their help.

I had this happen a number of years ago at the GF. I would head back to the room around 3 PM with a tired toddler in need of a nap, and more often than not, housekeeping was in our room. Which is worse to me than if they hadn't been there yet. If they hadn't been there, I could have gone in, put up the "privacy please" sign, and called to request housekeeping later. Instead, I had to try to keep my exhausted kiddo entertained with snacks from the lounge and cartoons on tv. In reality, I'm sure it only took around 15 minutes, but to me, with a cranky, tired child, it felt like an eternity. I've never had this problem anywhere else. I had thought it was just because it was so many years ago, but it's unfortunate to hear that this is still being experienced at some resorts. I'm sorry this happened to you! FWIW, we had no problem about 2 weeks ago at BWI.

I don't know if it is a "Poly" thing or not, but will chime in with my daughter's one experience at the Poly. It was a few years ago. Their family stayed at the Poly and my husband and I stayed at Por, our home resort. I have always wanted to stay at the Poly but could not afford it, and later when we could, we fell in love with POR. So, I was excited to see for myself what the Poly was about. Well, their room was musty and tired looking (furnishings). They had room service and it was not picked up despite calls to have it done, for 2 days straight. So, they set their trays out in the hallway. Their trays and many others were lining the hallways for the next 4 days of their stay. No one seemed to be able to pick them up on their daily rounds, apparently? They were not the only ones to complain. Always told it would be done, so sorry for the inconvenience. Right! It was never done. Their towels were not replaced daily, and with 5 of them taking showers, etc, it should have been done with housekeeping.
They all wished they had booked at POR, too, and were very disappointed in the service at the Poly. They will never go back there, and I no longer have a fascination with the Poly. It was very disappointing. Perhaps Disney has solved these problems with housekeeping at the Poly now? I hope so.

Never an issue. I always call upon leaving in the morning and tell housekeeping that we are headed out, will be back at this time and would like the room serviced while we are gone. Works like a charm.

I've heard Poly housekeeping can be hit or miss. Our last stay it was good. I have the same schedule. Park in morning, afternoon break etc. I phoned housekeeping and requested morning clean.

Regardless of where we are staying, I will have to keep this in mind for our next stay. We aren't at the parks from dawn till dusk. If we get back to the room and it has not been cleaned, the DND sign goes up.

Since they're paying people $15 per day in some resorts to decline housekeeping, it would seem that all these quality issues are due to lack of staff. Apparently it's really hard for them to maintain housekeeping staff these days.

I would suggest everyone to write to Disney and express your concerns about the recent drop in housekeeping quality so that they'll continue to offer the option to decline housekeeping. It's win/win for everyone - The people that don't need housekeeping will get compensated, and the people who do want housekeeping will get better quality service because there will be more staff available.
