Hello all,

So we decided to take a summer roadtrip to WDW in June instead of going in May by plane like we usually do. We would like to avoid 77, I'm pretty sure, because of the mountains in WV. I'm sure there are mountains along 75 too but would someone be able to tell me how mountainous 75 is? Thanks for any help!

Quite a few years we drove down via 77 and in the summer it's not really West Virginia that was bad it's Virginia. But you know it only lasts a few hours so I never have looked for another route and I often go thru there at night so there is less truck traffic to bother me. I travel down from the shores of Lake Erie:)

We live in Ohio and go down 77. The WV Turnpike is the worst part of the trip for me, and there are mountains in VA too, but it is only a couple of hours total. From where we live, it is longer for us to go 75 and not worth it.

Never driven 77 through the mountains. But I know the 75 route like the back of my hand.

You're in the mountains for only about 30 miles. Starting at the Kentucky/Tennessee border, and ending about 20-25 miles north of Knoxville. Not winding at all. Unless tou get behind a truck in the left lane going up, you'll cruise at 65-70 MPH.

Howdy neighbor. I am from the area too.

We always take 77 down. I sleep through the end of wv through at least the beginning of va. I hate that area. I refuse to drive it too.

We always take 77. The mountains are gorgeous to drive through. We always try to hit that area when it it light out.

I live in Cincinnati, have driven 75 south several times, drove it once when moving here from SoFla...and to/from Florida once. I would LOVE to make the drive for our DCL/WDW trip..but am too afraid of being tired the entire next day as I am the only driver.

With 2 people you will be fine :)

I wouldn't worry about the mountains. The traffic going through Charlotte on I77 is HORRIBLE! Once you get through Charlotte it is an easy drive.

We're from Indiana but we've driven 77 to go other places and take 75 to FL (65 sucks) I'd rather drive 75 any day. 77 is prettier but a lot more curves and hills.
