On a couple of previous visits to Universal parks, I have avoided certain rides such as 'Back to the Future' because of motion sickness.

I intend to do both parks 'properly' this year as we're staying on site for 4 nights - I've read that there is a product called dramadine (sp?) in the US that might help. Don't have this in the UK (I don't think) - is it for sale in one of the shops in Royal Pacific or on Citywalk (not intending to go shopping away from this area ie on International Drive)

I'm in no way a medical prof. I just read labels. So if you'd feel more comfortable before taking my advice call someone that you trust for answers.

There are two kinds sold now. The original had the same main ingredient as most sleeping pills. It would knock you on your tussy.

Dramamine 2 or II (Not sure what the label actually says) has a new ingredient and doesn't make me sleepy at all. I used it for a "Dolphin Cruise" earlier this year.

So if you find it before hand on the internet or even at the park, don't get the original. It'll put you to sleep.

The ingredient that you should look for (may be able to find a product in the UK that has the same ingredient)

Meclizine Hydrochloride

Also, the motion sickness brand Bonine has the same ingredient as the second Dramamine. If you can find that brand, it may help.

I know this isn't exactly what you asked but I hope it helps.

It's called Dramamine and you should have no trouble finding it. They used to sell it in Schwab's in USF.

Do not take original Formula Dramimine or you will be sleepy all day.

Look for brand names: Bonine, Dramimine II (less-drowsy formula), or Antivert and drugstores.

Other names: In the U.S.—

* Antivert 3
* Antivert/25 3
* Antivert/50 3
* Bonine 3
* Dramamine II 3
* Marezine 2
* Meclicot 3
* Medivert 3

In Canada—

* Bonamine 3
* Marzine

You can also order 100 tablets of meclazine for around $8 US dollars.

I get motion sick bad.

If you just get sick every now and then, take a dose of the medicine the night before. I will get in your system and probably get you through the next day. My son who is a sometimes motion sick teen does that and it works great for him.

If you get sick easily, take the night before and then the next morning too.

I took Bonine for the ride down in the car. If I am not driving, I get sick. It worked for the car trip. When we got to Universal we waited a few hours and then went to ride some rides. I made it through Back to The Future with no nausea. I also used it when I took a cruise. I took one every morning first thing. It still makes you a little drowsy, but not like the original stuff. Kind of to the point that if you were to lay down you could fall asleep. Not where you are walking around all day wishing you could go back to the room. Oh, and my son made me ride the ride again the next day and sure enough, it made me sick.

Were there any rides that didn't make you sick? We are taking a friend who is prone to motion sickness and I was hoping he would be able to handle MIB and some of the tamer rides. Thanks.

There is only 2 real worries at MIB (IMHO)

first when they scan the cars and you have to shoot another car. If they shoot you you will spin (possibly 2 or 3 times depending on how good the shooters are on the other side)
The other time is at the very end when you spin twice. It was really not too bad. Its funny, I found cat in the hat more disruptive to my system then MIB.

I have an inner ear condtion called meneries and I use to get vertigo often. I take meclizine, I have a perscription dose, you might ask your dr for one. It seems to be the best thing out there for me and I take it for motion sickness as well.

Back to the Future is the only ride that makes me sick. That and the car. For me, I think it is because it is the only ride that is really not moving anywhere. I can't handle Body Wars or Star Tours either. MIB spins, but not too much.

One other thing about these "rides" is to remember to focus and breathe!!!

On vacation, I try take Bonine every morning, at least one hour before we hit the parks. I can't do spinny rides or simulators and on our Disney Cruise, had to take it because I got dizzy when I was inside.

A couple years ago, I did BTTF and felt absolutely miserable. So, when I went to Star Tours at WDW last year, even taking the Bonine didn't help 100%. I still felt awful afterwards and couldn't do too much for a while.

This year, I wanted to try Mission: Space and prepared myself by reading everything I could from everyone. One tip I got was simply to remember to breathe. We never made it to M:S, but I did that on Star Tours this time, without taking Bonine, and it worked great. I sat in the front, watched the screen, relaxed and kept saying to myself breathe, breathe, breathe. I had no problems at all. My nephew, on the other hand, was a bit green when we got off.

Hope this helps someone.

It really depends on what makes an individual motion sick. My DH felt sick on MIB in April and wouldn't go on it again. I don't know of it was the ride or if he just wasn't feeling well to begin with, but he was fine on it the previous visits. He was fine on Spiderman. He won't go on Back to the Future because that made him a little sick once.

The only Universal ride that normally makes me a little green was Jimmy Neutron. From what I've read the sound is not totally in sinc with the picture (or is it the motion? something isn't times just right) and that can set a person off.

The bonine so knocked us out that we could hardly function. I'm going to buy some brand new stuff (maybe try the non-sleepy Dramamine) and have my DH try it before our trip. Otherwise he'll never be able to go on Mission to Space at Epcot.

T&B

Non-drowsy Dramamine has the exact same ingredient as Bonine so if Bonine made you sleepy, then it probably will also.

The trick for Bonine is to take the tablet before you go to bed the night before. It works for 24 hours. So if you take it the night before, you would have slept off any drowsiness it may cause.
