Motion Sickness

The only ride I ever got sick on was DUMBO (I was 40 at the time)! I decided it's because the bloomin' ride goes COUNTER clockwise. Everything else we rode went the other direction!

I have this problem, too!!

Tower of Terror bothers me a little bit, but it's worth trying at least once. The two most bothersome in this area are the two simulators: Body Wars at EPCOT and Star Tours at the Studios. Space Mountain and Rock'N Roller Coaster can also give me that queasy feeling. The theater-in-the-round presentations at China and Canada can also make me feel a little off, but you can always look at the floor if you have to !!

But, if you've never tried Meclizine, give it a try. It's the same medication that's in Bonine, but you can buy it in large bottles at Wal-Mart for a fraction of the cost. You don't need a prescription and it really works well . . . won't make you drowsy, either!!

Whatever you decide to try . . . . . have fun!!

On our last trip I got really, really sick on body wars. I was fighting it so hard. Thank goodness it was before lunch. I kept thinking about the poor people on the ride w/ me if I did get sick.

Do want to give props, there was a really nice CM working that ride. When it was over, I was kind of slow in getting up and I went out and sat on the benches right at the ride exit. I was drinking some water when the CM came over w/ a wet rag. She offered to go get me some pretzels if I wanted to put something dry in my stomach. She told me every couple of rides someone gets sick feeling.

Has anyone else had good experiences w/ motion sickness pills? When I go in September, I would like to try the Rock and Rollercoaster for the first time and Mission Space (if its open), but I get motion sick pretty easily. Will the pills work? Which ones are most effective?

I get motion sick really easy and need can not do some rides but if I space the stuff out I can manage. I have tried meclazine a couple times and you should experiment with it before heading to the parks. I was told to start taking it a couple days before the trip. It made me very sleepy. So much so that I had to go back to the hotel and nap. It seems to help allot on the minor rides, on the bigger ones though I still get sick.
The following are cabable of causing minor to major dizziness and nausea.
Teacups
Space Mountian
Big Thunder Mountain
Dumbo!!!!
Astor Orbiter

Body Wars
Wonders of China (you can just lower your gaze occaisionaly)
O Canada (lower your gaze)
Impressions d' France (lower your gaze

Tower of Terror (this one is okay if the drop sequence isn't to long)
Rock n' Rollercoaster
Star Tours

Countdown to...ooops Disnosaur is boderline. I always do it but can be a bit sick after...it's worth it. ;)
I am assuming Primevil Whirl. We will se in May. I might not even try it as it is not my cup of tea anyway.
Good luck.

I don't get motion sick, but, I thought
I was going to die on Body Wars.

Stay off of that one if you tend to
get sick, you will never make it.

I will never ride that bad boy again.

I've never had a problem with motion sickness except for one time and thats when I rode front row center seat on Body Wars. I didn't puke, but could have very easily. A friend told me that her husband did lose it after he rode it.

So how does Big Thunder Mtn compare to Goofy's Barnstormer? My DD 7 and I are going to try more rides this trip, we both suffer a bit from motion sickness. We both rode Teacups, Dumbo and Barnstormer last time with no problems (me a wee bit on Teacups). Can we handle Splash and Thunder? And will Meclizine help? What about ToT and RRC....are they completely out of the question?

I have several family members that get motion sickness. I find that it is better if you begin taking the pills a few days in advance of riding and continue taking them throughout your vacation.

Best advice I can give is space your rides out. I get motion sickness when I ride on something that has two moving parts (ie. MK teacups). I don't ride on Dumbo or anything like it. I am fine on ToT, SM and any of the roller coasters (mostly get a little week in the knees but not motion sickness). However, I will think twice before riding on Dinosaur again. I had to calm my stomach down a few times.

Lastly, don't forget to bring crackers or pretzels in with you and take frequent breaks. Drink plenty of water and breath deeply.

Enjoy your vacation.

Try Dramamine or Gravol for motion sickness. These tend to work quite well. I think Dramamine makes a non-drowsy version.
Like others have said space out your rides. Don't forget to keep hydrated and don't ride after a big meal.

Hi,
I get motion sickness on some rides as well. Never did when I was younger, but after I had children I did. I found that Sea Bands work for me. They are small elastic bands (almost like for pony tails) that you wear around your wrists. They have a plastic bead in them, that goes over your pressure points in your wrist. They were suggested by a doctor for my cousin, who suffered from morning sickness while being pregnant. They worked for her, so I tried them on rides. They work for me (and several members of my family) and they also work while riding in a car, if I want to read. Hope this helps!

I've gotten motion sickness on Body Wars and Star Tours, and believe it or not, but I also got it on Astro Orbitor!! I just went on this for the first time the other day with DD, and I couldn't wait to get off!:o

I am quite prone to motion sickness.

Stuff that i won't even try:
Body Wars (OK, tried it once - almost yacked on the ride and was out of commission for an hour afterwords.)
Star Tours
The Teacups
The Carosel(circles get me especailly)

Stuff that i can do, but they have to be spaced well out from each other:
RnR
ToT
Dinosaur
any of the surround movies at Epcot (or even timekeeper)

Regular costers that don't have any loops or serious cork screws i can handle, so most other rides at WDW i can handle.

I will be trying Bonine on my next visit. It is seems to work the first day, i will give some of the above attractions a shot. I am hoping it works because i would really like to check out M:S

If you are thinking of buying Bonine, go for the Meclizine instead. It's the same identical medication, just under a different name, and it's a LOT less expensive.

I always use the Sea Bands when I fly . . . for whatever reason, they work great, even when my medication fails me.

It's a good idea to check out whatever you want to take before your trip. The less drowsy type can still make you quite sleepy. It also is not made for children under 12 where as regular dramimine is. I KNOW that the wal-mart brand is suppose to be the very same stuff but for some reason my DS can not take it while the name brands work fine for him so do try it out. We find that the 24 hour stuff works best to take at night and then you sleep off some of the effects but the medication still is in your system and keeps you from getting sick. We start it a day or two before the trip.My DS is the one in our family that gets sick and he likes to ride everything. He does well with coasters but the tea cups bother him even with medication. Spinning rides like orbiter are a toss up but the simulater type rides such as star tours do not bother him! It's just a toss up. We are going to try the sea bands at home in the near future as we hope to use them on our trip this year.
