Hi. I get pretty bad motion sickness so. I usually take Dramamine befor flying or going on a boat no matter how short the ride. The thing is Dramamine makes me really tired. I'm landing at MCO at 10:30am so I want to spend as much time at WDW as possible. I was hoping some of you may have some "non-drowsy" suggestions. I'm also concerned about many rides I want to experience inducing motion sickness. I can't see taking Dramamine for all 7 days of my trip. I'm a person who likes her sleep so getting up early to go to the parks will be hard enough without a medicine making me tired on top of it. I've seen the bracelets that are supposed to help. Has anyone tried these? Anything else that works well that you can suggest? Thank you!

try to get a prescription from md for scopolomine patch! Works wonders, stays on for 3 days, you do not even know it is there:upsidedow

I have the bracelets. I used them when I was pregnant and they really helped my morning sickness. My kids use them on car trips and they help with their car sickness. We plan on wearing them at WDW and on the Disney Cruise in October. I don't know how the work for 'severe' motion sickness since I would classify ours as mild-moderate. Good Luck!

I have used Dramamine, Scopalimine patch and the braclets I get pretty bad esp. on planes:sick: The last time we flew I did the braclets and a new recomendation given to me Ginger tablets and Ginger snaps. I seemed to feel better when we landed and recovered faster. I also never fly on an empty stomach I have ginger ale and crackers that seems to help. I am not sure if it was the braclets or the ginger or just luck that i did better when I flew. I just thought I would share that tip I was given. :)

My dad gets pretty bad motion sickness and he uses the scopolomine patch when we go on planes and amusement parks he still cant go on all rides but it helps him go on more than he usually could without the patches

I take Bonine (meclazine) when I fly and when I'm on cruises. (I don't have problems in the parks--but if I did, it's what I would take.) Bonine is also an over the counter medication. It's the same medicine that is often prescribed to people that have trouble with dizziness.

Bonine is supposed to make you less drowsy than Dramamine. I think it makes be a little bit sleepy, so I only take a half tab every night before bed. It's just enough in my system to keep me from feeling motion sickness while on a cruise. When flying, I take it about an hour before take off. You can buy it at any drug store, Target, WalMart, etc.

Yes, ginger tablets that you buy at a health food store. Works with no drowsiness. Try them before you go. :)

Regular Dramamine makes me sleepy, but Bonine (meclizine) works wonders for my motion sickness without any side effects.

Eat a green apple first thing in the morning! Yes, it must be green. This worked wonders on our cruise. It came in doubly helpful when we hit rough weather and there were 23 foot waves rolling into the side of the Disney Wonder. In case you are trying to picture that (some of you who have been on cruises may know) thats about midway through Deck 3. So if you were on deck 3, looking out the porthole/window etc, you'd have seen water.

Neither my wife nor I got sick on that trip and there were plenty of guests who did. Love green apples!

Added bonus: the sugars in the apple will give your metabolism a kick start. Just make sure to eat something after your apple, about 20 minutes later, so you don't crash out after your sugar high.:thumbsup2

My DD16 gets motion sickness and Bonine works wonders for her. Her doctor made the recommendation over Dramamine because of the sleepiness factor. We also tried the pressure point bracelet, ginger, and other non-pharmaceuticals first to no avail. (Although I'd never heard of the green apple thing until this string, but that would probably give DD a stomach ache.)

I know this sounds goofy (no pun intended) but ginger candy saved my tushie while on a boat in Hawaii. I tend to get motion sick easily, but since everything makes me sleepy as well, I took the risk of the trip being smooth so I could stay awake long enough to enjoy the scenery.
Well, the ocean started getting rough, the tiny ship was tossed. . . Needless to say, I wished for my Dramamine. I wasn't the only one on the boat having an issue, so the staff on the boat brought around ginger ale and ginger candy for those of us a little woozy. I'd heard the stories of it being a Hawaiian remedy for sick sickness, but I poo-poo'd it till then. I don't any more. I certainly wasn't going to get off the boat and run a marathon, but I was able to continue the day with no lingering symptoms or ruined plans.
Since then, on road trips, airplane trips, etc, there's always a little ginger candy in my bag.
