motion sickness patches?

I get motion sickness really easily. Like even on a carousel easy. Was planning on just avoiding rides like Star Tours and maybe even some of the more intense roller coasters.

Has anyone used the motion sickness patches you put behind your ear for these type of rides? Do they work for this? Would like to be able to enjoy more of the park.

I use Meclizine (bonine). It works great for me and I have REALLY bad motion sickness.

Meclizine! It works for 24 hours and is non-drowsy. I buy it from the pharmacist at Target (don't need a prescription) because it's cheaper, but it's also sold as Bonine and Less Drowsy Dramamine. I get SEVERE motion sickness (like, IASW makes me sick), but I can take it and make it through a full day of Busch Gardens coasters. I still avoid teacups, but I don't think anything would make me get on those!

I also get motion sickness and my doctor told me to start taking dramamine at night about 2 days before the trip to get it in your system and then take less drowsy dramamine during the day. I just do that the whole trip and it works fine. I do use the patches if I go on a cruise but it has a lot of side effects, so I don't use it if I don't have too.

I get motion sickness in our pool.:sad2: I used less drowsy Dramamine and a sea band, and I was fine on everything but the Carrousel. I should have skipped it. I did skip Teacups and test track just in case.

Use the patch. They're awesome! I can't ride almost anything without it. I've tried everything else and nothing works like the patch.

I have used the patches and they work well for me, but beware of the side effects. I'm sure these are different for each person, but I experience severe blurriness in my eyes when I wear them for very long. My eyes dilate so badly that I can't read anything for 3 days! I've learned to manage that by never touching the sticky part of the patch without washing my hands immediately afterwards and by taking them off as soon as I arrive at my destination. I haven't tried them at Disney but I suspect they would work well for me. I truly never get sick with them on so I really like them, but I am faithful about following those precautions. At Disney, I just avoid the rides that make me sick. THere are plenty of others that I love so I don't miss them.

You might want to try the Bonine first.

The patch can cause blurry near-vision. I apply the patch then wash my hands thoroughly then cover it with a round band-aid so I don't accidentally touch it. It's the residue from the patch that causes the vision issues. Can also cause dry mouth, but drinking a lot of water takes care of that. I change the patch every 3 days, and on the last day I need it I just keep the patch on a few extra days to wean myself off of it.

I have also been using the patch for years in WDW. I can't even ride the buses without using something. I do get dry mouth, but all the extra water I drink in the parks takes care of that. As for blurriness, I do try not to touch the patch once it's on, but I do have some trouble with fine print a few days in. Distance vision, though, has never been a problem for me.

All that said, I still limit certain rides, like the Tea Cups and Star Tours. I can do them, but sometimes I still feel just a bit off for a short while after. Roller Coasters are no problem for me with the patch - I ride them all!

I use less drowsy dramamine and have no issues! My son has the same problem and has never gotten sick while using dramamine either.

I take meclizine and Star Tours is still a bit much for me. I have however, used the patch before in parks, and yes it helped a great deal! I do not really have side effects from it, but I do know people that have. But for me, it works great!

Another vote for the patch - my doctor prescribes it to me pretty much by the truckload! I joke that I get motion sickness in bed.

These things are a lifesaver for me. I do get blurry vision but usually only on the last day (and only in the eye that's on the same side as the patch).

My daughter has developed really bad motion sickness over the past year and I was really worried about not just our time in WDW but also our 16 hour drive down. Guess I'll make a trip to the pharmacy before we leave. Thanks for this info.

Bonine, Sea Bands and ginger.
My GI doc told me to start every morning with a Zofran (prescription) and that should work.

I have severe motion sickness and have lived on boats for months at a time.

The patches have some really negative side effects. Dry mouth, drowsiness, feeling drunk, etc.

Take Bonine or Dramamine, but take it at night. It lasts 24 hours and will help you avoid drowsiness issues.

I swear by Bonine (Meclizine)--even for cruises. I still avoid Tea Cups, Star Tours, & Mission Space--but I'm able to do all other rides. I also carry Ginger gum as a back up plan. It settles your stomach very quickly.

I also have severe motion sickness; pools and hot tubs will make me motion sick- sometimes even too long in the bath tub! At Disney, I usually take 1 meclizine/bonine a day (2 to fly), but still have to be careful. I get queasy at the end of Test Track, and can only ride BTMRR one time as I am a little unsteady at the end of that. 7DMT ate me alive last trip- suddenly while sitting outside the cottage, at the very end of the ride, I was overwhelmed with motion sickness. I tried the patch one time, but inadvertently got it into one eye before we ever got to the parks, so removed it and spent the day wearing sunglasses. I will say- when I had surgery, they let me have a patch. I didn't have one when I had my gall bladder out, and I was vomiting before I was fully awake. The next time I had surgery, they put a patch on me and I had no issues at all. Perhaps it's time to try it for Disney World, too!

Before every dive trip I've ever been on I've taken Bonine the night before (needs to get in your system) then every morning, no fail. I've never had seasickness even on a small dive boat with 6 foot seas. I have been known to take it the night before at Disney if I knew the next day we were going to try a ride that might get me sick (Mission Space and Star Tours I'm looking at you) and have had no problems.

Please be cautious with the prescription patches. My family and I went on a cruise where I wore the patch for the 3 days like the directions said. When we got off the boat, we headed straight to WDW for a couple of days. My vision was so blurry and my pupils stayed dilated for almost an entire week. It was awful. I did not even enjoy the parks with my vision. I don't think they are worth it unless they are for surgery when you are resting in bed.
