motion sickness patches?

My daughter has developed really bad motion sickness over the past year and I was really worried about not just our time in WDW but also our 16 hour drive down. Guess I'll make a trip to the pharmacy before we leave. Thanks for this info.

Back in the day Myth Busters did a show on motion sickness and much to their surprise Ginger won! So get some ginger candy, they have a sugared ginger that's not bad - and ginger ale is great too!

I not only have motion sickness but I have vertigo so I take the less drowsy dramamine, and carry the chewable ones in my bag. I also tried the patch, it worked great - but the problem I had was when we got home, and I took off the patch, it took me awhile to "recover" - it was awful!

I also have severe motion sickness; pools and hot tubs will make me motion sick- sometimes even too long in the bath tub! At Disney, I usually take 1 meclizine/bonine a day (2 to fly), but still have to be careful. I get queasy at the end of Test Track, and can only ride BTMRR one time as I am a little unsteady at the end of that. 7DMT ate me alive last trip- suddenly while sitting outside the cottage, at the very end of the ride, I was overwhelmed with motion sickness. I tried the patch one time, but inadvertently got it into one eye before we ever got to the parks, so removed it and spent the day wearing sunglasses. I will say- when I had surgery, they let me have a patch. I didn't have one when I had my gall bladder out, and I was vomiting before I was fully awake. The next time I had surgery, they put a patch on me and I had no issues at all. Perhaps it's time to try it for Disney World, too!

Thank you for sharing your experience with the patch and surgery! I need surgery and the last time (over ten years ago) I had such a bad reaction coming out of the anesthesia that I am scared! This is a great idea for me!

I swear by the patch! If it moves I puke! I did great on planes, bus and most rides... I still avoid all motion simulators and anything spinning. I do coasters without any problems. My side effects are mainly I'm wide awake! Really to the point of hyper, but I'll take that over puking any day. My patch is called transderm scope.

You could also try sea bands - they have them at Walgreens for about $10. They just look like little sweatbands you wear on each of your wrists, and there's a little ball that pushes on a pressure point. There are absolutely no side affects, and they are supposed to help with all kinds of nausea. Some people swear by them - I've had mixed results, but for $10 and no risk or side affects, I figure it's worth a shot:)

If you have dry mouth from the patches, try Xylimelts. I have dry mouth from medication and my dentist recommended them. They are a disc that sticks to my gum and cause me to salivate. I use them every night and during the day when I need them. I order them from Amazon.

The blurry vision thing with the patch isn't a big deal for me. It makes my NEAR vision blurry...meaning I things that are only a few inches from my face are blurry. Not many things that close to me at Disney and well worth being able to ride everything.

I'll second (or seventh?) the Bonine. Just start at the airport!
