I plan to start taking dramamine Wednesday so that I can have it in my system when we leave for WDW on Saturday (yippeeeee :flower: )

I get sick on EVERYTHING, but I really want to try more, and I want to do DUMBO so bad!!!

For those of you who have taken it.. should I take it at night so that if it makes me drowzy I can just sleep it off... or, is the drowziness so bad that I will still be groggy in the morning?

I have never tried it before and I have heard that it knocks some people out. Taking it at night might help (no idea though).

Also, if I take it at night would it still last for me in the daytime? It says 24 hours but I am not sure!

Thanks so much!!!

Less Drowsy Dramamine does not make me tired at all and is supposed to last twenty-four hours. I always take it first thing in the morning, so I don't know how taking it at night works. I've tried other things - ginger capsules (did nothing), bonine (made me far too jittery), seabands (again, did nothing) and Less Drowsy Dramamine works the best for me. I only take half of a tablet and still avoid rides that go in circles because I can still get sick on those even with the Dramamine.

Thank you! I have the less drowsy Dramamine so maybe I will be okay... plus I am gonna give myself 3 days to *hopefully* get my body used to it!!

You'll be better off taking regular strength dramamine before bed.

However, your best bet is to get the Scopolamine patch from your doctor before you go. I get RIP roaring motion sick on anything spinny, all coasters, and the motion simulators and I rode everything without any trouble with the patch. It was a godsend. Just follow the directions to a "T" (don't touch your eyes after handling the patch, and be sure to change it every 3 days).

I took Bonine everyday and never once had a problem. Didn't get motion sick and didn't feel like I had taken any medicine. We also went on a cruise with really big seas the first night (knock you off balance when you tried to walk.) Again, no motion sickness, no medicine effects.

Good luck! Oh ya, I avoided Mission Space and Star Tours. Not worth the chance of being sick all day.

I would stay away from Mission Space even with the pills. I don't have motion sickness and loved every other ride there, but that one made me and DH sick as dogs! Very intense...

Also, silly as it sounds, carry rubbing alchol pads with you. If you start to feel the least bit queasy, open it up, put it right udner your nose and take deep breaths. In less than 10 seconds you'll feel so much better. (I use these on the airplane too!)

That is a great tip! I will be sure to have alcohol pads!

You couldn't pay me a million bucks to ride mission space! hahaha I really want to try Dumbo, Space Mountain, Soarin, and Dinosaur!!

I second the patches! Dramamine just doesn't work for me (inner ear issues) but the patches do. The only thing I had problems with were motion simulator rides. I discovered this on the first one I tried and just didn't ride any after that. I really debated over Soarin' but didn't chance it. I'm not sure if that's really a simulater ride, my kids aren't old enough to really give me the details.

We were on the Disney cruise and I used the patch. The day we disembarked we headed over to WDW. I had just put a new patch on the day before, so I thought I was fully protected. So I rode Space Mt with my son and husband. I was never to miserable in my whole life. While the patch worked very well on board the Wonder, it didn't do anything for me on Space Mt.

Even with a gross of Dramamine, you might be like me. Nothing works for me on these rides.

I am not a motion person (even swings bother me!!!! LOL) and especially dislike rides that have dips. Therefore I avoided all roller coaster type rides and especially Splash Mountain. I did not take any dramamine and I was perfectly fine on the rides. Soarin' is a great ride (probably my favorite) and has very little motion. You tilt and there are some small (sensation) dips but otherwise OK.

I thought Dinosaur was a bit intense. They (CM's) told me before boarding that it was mildly bumpy - WRONG!!! It is more like a roller coaster but you are riding in pitch black and dinosaurs loudly appear unexpectedly. If the ride was even dimly lit it would be fine by me but not in complete darkness. I would not recommend it.

Star Tours is another ride I liked but it did have my stomach [mildly] in my throat a few times. It is a simulator ride (but you physically twist & turn a little in the car) you do feel as if you are moving in space. I would have done it again if my kids wanted to join me but I thought it best to experience other rides.

I even did the River Raft ride at AK. It does have a drop where you will get wet but it is fun. I did it twice and my 2 kids DS 14 & DD 9 did it 4 times in succession!! Needless to say they were soaked!!! My DD does not like the roller coasters and did not do Splash Mountain but absolutely LOVED this ride. She also loved Soarin' but not Dinosaur. I hope this helps.

Please do a test run with the medication before you leave home! I did a test run with Bonine, hoping it would allow me to ride Mission:Space. Forget it! I slept non-stop for about 12 hours after taking it! It was like a sleeping pill to my system! Thank heaven I tried it before I went to WDW. Needless to say, Mission:Space is off the list!
Good Luck! :sunny:

Oh, BTW, I personally wouldn't waste time on Dumbo, it's pretty much a carnival ride that you can experience at any local fair. Sorry if I offended the Dumbo & Aladdin lovers!

Be sure to ride Soarin' though! It's my new favorite, no motion sickness what so ever and very gentle movement. 2 thumbs way up! :flower:

I think these things depend so much on an individual's system. I take Bonine when I anticipate having problems and I've been fine. My mom and DH have taken it and they've been very drowsy. So I don't think one can generalize about these drugs. Ginger ale or tablets (they taste nasty, though!) and/or saltine crackers work well for me, too when the dizziness is of a minor nature.

Something that has always helped me when I get a bit on the shakey tummy side is just chewing mint flavored gum.

Back when I was a kid I had the worst motion sickness, and being a kid and all I never knew "it" was coming until it was too late and I needed a new shirt (if you get what I mean). It was so bad back then that I could not even ride Spaceship Earth in EPCOT because it went backwards.

Well when I was in EPCOT back in Oct. Hubby started to tease me in regards to the fact that I never rode Spaceship Earth because it was too rough for me.

So we rode it, and lo and behold, when it started to go backwards I began to feel queesy. So I popped in some gum and almost instantly began to feel better.

I am not sure if it is the act of chewing and getting my mind off of my tummy or if it is the mint that makes me feel better.

Either way, gum is my trick.

I LOVED Soarin, but it did make me a little quesy. I'm ok on all the other Disney rides, but Soarin got to me for a few minutes afterwards.

Take bonine. It has been a life saver for me on many cruises, scuba diving trips and now recentely at Disney.. After experiencing extreme motion sickness after space mountain last week (never happened before), I took bonine the rest of the trip. I did not even feel slightly quesey after Mission Space (the first time I rode it it took a few weeks to completely get over the dizziness) I had an extended pill so I took it at 8am every morning and it lasted throughout the day.

I just got my DH a ride along package for the Petty racing at WDW and my DH who got sick after riding Mission Space is wondering if he will get sick again after this. So, I think I might have him try the bonine. Where can I get some of that. He did try Dramamine, and she slept for 12 hours straight. It didn't make for a fun day for the kids.

Mint does wonders for upset and queasy stomachs. I don't get motion sickness, but whenever I am queasy, I brew some peppermint tea (as strong as possible and no sugar) and I feel better very quickly. Even worked with a stomach virus! I have also heard that a peppermint hard candy can work as well although it never has for me.
