Motion sick meds

What does everyone use? Do you use over the counter or prescription from the doctor? What works best?

Never cruised before, but all 3 of us get motion sick/car sick, so preparing for it.

DH used the prescription patch from the dr. the whole time. One night, it was so rocky, he lost his appetite but didn't actually get sick as he normally would have. It worked really well for him and his only side effect was somewhat of a dry throat so he drank a lot of water. Our kids don't get motion sick, but I had brought Bonine and dramamine chewables just in case. Neither of them ever needed it.
