I give my mom fathers day cards... so I could see depening on someone's realtionship w/ thier parents and their "history" where one parent could be serving both the mother and father role.I do not have children (not by choice) but my Godchildren do send me cards and that makes me happy.
Now I did find it strange to see Happy Mother's Day to Dad cards.
a co worker has a daughter w/ no children and the "dogs" give her birthday, mothers day and christmas gifts. To this lady her dog is just as much as kid as my son is my kid. I don't necessarly "agree" with this thinking but hey, no skin of my back! When I was in the store, there was a "To mom, from the dog" card.
Now, would I ever buy something like that? No. But to each his own. I know that to some women, their dog is their baby.
There must be a market for it, and people buying them, or else they wouldn't exist. Companies don't usually make products that they know aren't going to sell.
I buy Mothers day cards for my mom, my MIL and one of my SIL's. this particular SIL is a HUGE help to me with my boys. We joke all the time that she is their "other mother". I know the day is a day to recoginize the mother child realtionship, but we also choose to use it to recoginize particular people that have special meaning. I have 3 other SIL's and 2 Sisters, and while I may tell each of them Happy Mother's Day, I don't buy them cards.
I think it's important to recoginize that each person has a"history" and depending on circumstances in thier life, it's nice to be able to recoginize people for the important roles they play in your life. YMMV.
