My Girl Scout troop wants to hold a M/D scrap night for all the GS in our area, but they are not sure what would be a good way to go about it. GS are K-12 girls and have different abilities. We can use the library rooms (there are 2) for free and I have talked to a lady from my LSS and said thye would bring people in to teach classes.

I know we would have to break them up but any thoughts on how we should do it? Anyone ever do an activity like this or been to one? Could use any ideas you great ladies might have.

Working on the leadership badge Sue? :p

We did a Girl 2 girl last week to finish that one off. Ok, to get serious.

How much space is really available for folks - how many can you accomodate that is? Would you need to limit, if so what age bracket to focus on?

It might be a great idea to mix up those that already scrap with those that don't. I'd definitely mix the older girls in to the younger girls. Maybe offer the option of a "Mom room" and "Girl room"?

My thoughts

When you sign the mother/daughter pairs up you should have them indicate what experience level they are. This will give you an idea of what type of classes and make and takes to offer. Ask some consultants from Creative Memories, Close to my Heart, Stampin up, your LSS and any others to set up sales displays and maybe even demos. Knowing the levels of your croppers will help them know what to bring and what to demo. This should be a really fun day.

some of her suggestions were.....

book the rooms for 9 hours, divide the GS and Moms into troops age wise...such as all brownies, all juniors etc. Have the younger girls come for four hours, an hour to clean up, then the older girls come in. Both groups bring Mom along and if someone has a girl in both groups you just accomdate them for one of the four hour blocks. Each mother daughter team needs a full table to spread out on.

A good way to start would be to sit down and figure out a small package for beginners to use. Such as several color papers, an inexpensive book, stickers, etc. Figure out a cost for this package and have anyone new to cropping just pay you ahead of time for their package. Tell them to bring a specific number of pics to complete say 6 pages.....a pen to journal....scissors for trimming.....any items that go along with their pics....You would need to know of course what type pics they may be bringing if you add stickers to the packages.

Also this way you can place all your beginners together in one area, and let the veterans just jump into their own books while you give tips to the newbies.

Or you can have newbies in one of the alloted times and veterans in the other.....

Sorry so long and I sure hope this made sense.

good luck

Thanks for the ideas. I never thought of having beginner and advanced at different times. I kept thinking age levels but I think experience is a better idea as we have K-12. We also want this to be a mother/daughter event where they stick together. Probably moms helping their daughters for beginners and the advance girls working on their own with moms working on theirs.

We have two rooms to use plus a hallway for registration. Little room could hold about 20 scrappers, and the big room about 40. I would like to offer classes in embellishments/patterned paper uses/beginners, etc...

Not sure what to have them bring if they are beginners. We could have books for sale or should we just have paper to start with. They can always buy a top loading later and stick them in is my thinking.

So many decisions... If anyone can think of anymore, let me know.

Yep! Take that "Stuff" you were thinking of garage saling and use it here for your beginners!
