Cruisers: Me 45, third Wonder cruise
DD 26, first Wonder cruise
As promised I let DD sleep till 8am. I left a wake up call for 8am but woke up 30 minutes before it came. I was dressed and drinking coffee before Mickey called.
While DD got ready, I watched the weather channel and hoped for nice weather for the sail away.
After packing and eating our breakfast we took our bags down to the lobby and had the car brought around. We loaded up and were on the road by 9am.
We stopped at the Albertsons on John Young Parkway to get bottled water and some bottles of Diet sprite. We went over to the Super kmart, which was having a going out of buisness sale, to look for bargains. We didn't find any but stocked up on film and batteries there.
We were back on the road by 9:30 am. I drove at the speed limit since nothing can ruin my day faster than a speeding ticket!
DD kept an eye out for wildlife, since she loves animals, while we listened to a great radio station that played lots of good stuff and had a great morning show.
We made it to Port at just past 10:30 and after dropping off our luggage, we drove across the street to park the car. We got a good spot near the crosswalk. I had been getting excited all morning, and DD got excited when she first spotted the Wonder as we came over the Bridge. It's fun to go with someone who had never been before, you see it new through their eyes again!
She had seen our photos and video from our two previous cruises, so some things looked familiar but seeing it in person it was all the better.
We checked in, no crowds at all. We had to sign a release as they were doing some filming of this cruise. DD spent her time filming everything and I called DH to let him know we were about to cruise. We went outside to watch them load luggage and supplies onto the ship and DD and I had fun watching the bomb dog and his handler. We got in line early enough that we were able to sit next to the wall and relax. Shortly after 12 they let us onboard and DD was impressed with having our "family" annouced.
We walked around to the elevators and I tried to remember not to rush so she could take it all in. We were among the first at BBB, so we got a good table near the railing and enjoyed eating in the sunshine and with the view. I tried to sit so I was not looking toward KSC, since it brought back painful memories of Columbia and the fact that I had been there just 3 weeks prior to see her launch
DD agreed with me that we would rather sit outside and serve ourselves, rather than sit at a table inside. In February! Heat! Sunshine! We can't do that at home!
We split 3 different desserts because they all looked good. I had shrimp and the baked Mahi-mahi and we both had big bowls of the fresh fruit ( yummy). DD got pasta and salad. We got Bahama Mammas to toast to a good cruise!
After we had lunch we went to Wavebands and got Palo ressies for that evening. We had TAP and I knew she would rather miss Tritons than PC. We took a short tour of the ship, then we headed to our stateroom 6626 and our luggage was already there.
We put away our things and got into our swimsuits, spending the next hour by the pool. Every so often DD would look over at me and say " It's February, and I'm laying in the sun!!"
Soon it was time to head up to pick up our life vests and go to the drill. It was just a few steps down the hall and a back staircase to Animators for the drill. It seemed to go faster than usual, and soon we had put away our vests and headed back down to the sail away party. DD loves to dance so we were out there dancing (with our second drink of the day) and I was holding a camcorder in one hand filming her and a drink in the other, all the time trying to film her
AND pretend to dance!
We left the party just as we pulled away from the dock and went to the bow to watch us leave port. She looked for dolphins but didn't find any
As soon as we cleared the coast, we went to deck 7 aft to watch from there.
We went back to our room and meet our stateroom host in the hall and requested our beds be split into twins. We had Weekly from Jamaica and he was a sweetie
Forgot to mention that we had the CC beach towel and pins in our room, but no gift from DU (I guess someone canceled)
I called DH one last time while I still had a signal and thanked him for letting us go off and have such fun while he was unable to come. He's a keeper!
We showered and dressed for dinner and took a stroll around the ship. We went by Shutters and looked at our embarkation photos, then went to the stores. DD was enjoying shopping, and I had to drag her away to go for a stroll on Deck 4. It seems like you are going so fast when you look out those big windows and see the water rush by.
DD and I got to Palos a little early but are seated right away. Our server was Stanislaw, and he is very good, comes by just enough to make sure we are ok, without being intrusive.
DD has the special, filet mignon with gorgonzola sauce and I have the sea bass. DD raves about the filet and how tender it is. I love the sea bass. We both order the Portabella mushroom appetizer. It's my favorite and she likes it too. She has a bellini and I have asti to drink. Although we are already stuffed, of course we have to get the souffle. It was as good as I remembered!
We leave a nice tip for Stanislaw and head to our room to change for 70's night.
It's 9:15pm and we decide we want to go to dueling pianos first but after we change clothes we both are hit with after dinner laziness, so we just sit and take it easy till 10:15 when we head down to Wavebands . DD and I dance for awhile then enjoy the Glorias and John Travoltas! After the village people, we head back to the room and watch the waves from the veranda for awhile then head to bed for a much needed sleep!
DD tells me she is already impressed with the beauty of the ship and the great service everywhere.
Tomorrow...shopping in Nassau and DD wins $$ at Atlantis
