We will be driving from Gardner KS (KC suburb) to Disney the end of Aug. The plan is to leave Aug 27 @ 3am and drive untill we get past Atlanta. I wasn't going to make a ressie for a motel-didn't want to be locked in if DD4 and DS2 were up to driving further. We are checking in at Pop Aug 28. Mapquest shows Gardner to Atlanta is just under 12 hours. Are there a lot of choices for motels just south of Atlanta if we don't make a ressie, or should we try to make one? If so, what is the cheapest way? Advice?

If you make it to Newnan, Georgia, just south of Atlanta, I highly recommend the LaQuinta there. It is new, has microwave and mini frdige, nice rooms, just a couple of blocks off the Interstate. I have stayed there 3 times in the last few months and would not hesitate to stay there again.

If your coming I-75 and can make it to Macon (2 hours south of ATL) there's quite a few places off the interstate. I know there's a Courtyard, Residence Inn, and Fairfield Inn. My dad works down there quite a bit and stays at the Courtyard or Fairfield Inn I think.

Also I think Newnan is off of I-85 and I'm pretty sure you go I-75 to WDW.

Newnan is down I-85 not I-75. Macon, GA is a good stopping place. The hampton Inn is a great one to stay in. I got this info for you at Trip Advisors. The site is www.tripadvisors.com, type in Macon, Ga and you can get all kind of reviews etc about different hotels.

I just returned from a weekend trip to Macon visiting family. Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on how you look at it), there was not enough room for us to stay at our relative's house. They are heavy smokers and the smell gets to us. We allowed them to set us up in a hotel nearby and they chose the Hampton Inn for us.

Now I didn't expect much from the hotel. A clean comfortable room is really all I need. Being that this is essentially a roadside motel along I-75, I wasn't sure if I'd even get that. I was pleasantly surprised! When we arrived, check in was fast and friendly. We got two rooms, 117 & 119. The rooms were clean and well maintained. Parking was abundant, but it did not seem as if the hotel was at full capacity either. It was basic setup - double bed, desk, lounge chair. The pillows on the bed were fantastic. I was considering trying to steal one to take home. :)

There were many amenties I didn't expect. The Hampton Inn provided a lap desk (for working while laying on the bed), high speed internet and gym. Although I did not use the high speed internet, it was supposed to be free. The gym is not onsite - Hampton Inn provides you with a complimentary membership to the Golds Gym about a mile away.

The location is quite central. There is a plethora of restaurants, fast food and casual dining, within walking distance. There is also a movie theatre and a couple grocery stores very close by. I will say that the location is not convenient to downtown. It is probably another 10-15 minute drive to the downtown area.

One thing I particularly enjoyed was the complimentary deluxe breakfast served. It was better than continental but not full out buffet. They provided eggs, breakfast meat, biscuits, bagels & pastries, yogurt, fruit as well as juice and some very good coffee. There are attendants there during the breakfast to assist and they were extremely friendly and helpful. The staff in general was always helpful and in a good mood.

Great info! Now-has anyone used priceline or something like it to make motel/hotel reservations?
