Hi,

I'm planning on proposing to my girlfriend when we're in Disneyworld, and was wondering if you could give me your views on the best restaurant to do this in? (I've never been to any before!)

At the moment I'm hoping to get ADR's for California Grill, Jiko and Le Celluier, to give you an idea of the kind of thing we like.

Thanks!!!

Well, if it is in your budget- I would be all over Victoria and Albert's. Following list California Grill is a great scene but it is loud and there are tons of kids there, so it isn't the quietest most romantic place. Personally I would go for something a little quieter- Bistro de France is lovely, or Blue Zoo would be a little more childfree. Later at Jiko, or Artist Pointe. I would never do it at Le Cellier- it is so cramped the people next to you might think you mean to marry them
Another thought if it didn't have to be during dinner would be a wishes cruise or just on the beach at the poly watching the fireworks

I like Bistro de Paris....the last time I was there I watched a couple at the next table get engaged.. He got down on his knee and proposed...it was wonderful. I am not sure anyone else knew, we did as we were close by.

I have not done Victoria and Albert in years but people do say it is lovely and quiet....not the usual hustle bustle of a Disney restaurant.

For a proposal, I would go with V&A or Bistro de Paris. Both are usually quiet and intimate and have excellent cuisine.

You might also want to consider an Illuminations fireworks cruise. We did this on our past trip and it was breathtaking and romantic. I was hoping my DH of 25 years was going to give me a big ring after the fireworks display ended but no such luck. :rotfl:

Friends of mine got engaged at CRT. I have no idea what it cost, but it was pre-arranged, so you could always call and price it. They were seated at a table by a window and when the fireworks started, the wait staff quietly slid in front of her, a plate with a glass slipper that held her ring on a little satin pillow. He then got down on one knee and proposed. The pictures still make me cry every time I see them.

I've seen others here post about the same thing and I'm sure they could give you more details.

Other than that I would second V&A, if it's within your budget. Mama Melrose's is sort of romantic too. It has dim lighting and the background music is Sinatra, Dean Martin and other old (dead) Italian singers.

My first choice is Victoria & Albert's. It's so quiet and romantic. It's also BEAUTIFUL inside. That'd be a "budget is no option" choice.

Second choice would be Bistro or Jiko. Both are quieter and quite romantic. They're also less expensive and wouldn't break a budget. They're less romantic though, so it's a trade off.

I agree LeCellier wouldn't be the best choice because it's not very private feeling, and California Grill tends to be full of kids at all hours.

One thought - if you are thinking of Victoria & Albert's and you have AP's or are Florida residents - it's worth getting the DDE card. You'll save the cost of the card on your dinner discount there. Then you'd also get a discount on adult beverages throughout the rest of your visit.

DH proposed to me at Shula's. Not as romantic or expensive as V&A but it was wonderful and the food fablous. We were even given free dessert.

Another vote for V&As--the one thing that really struck us last week was how LOUD most of the restaurants are--even the expensive ones!

We had our last anniversary at Cali Grill and it was fab! OPs do say about the kids and yes there were lots but they were not a hassle. In fact, I went to the bathroom and one little guy saw my Happy Anniversary badge and said Happy Anniversary to me as I walked past him - he made my night! He must have been all of 5 years old and was so sweet.

I found the atmosphere in there to be just nice - not too loud but not quiet either. You could always do it outside whilst Wishes is on (this is crowded though) and if either of you are afraid of heights like me avoid it!

I have not been to V&A's or Bistro de Paris but would go back to Cali Grill for a celebration in a heartbeat.

We love Artist Point and I am willing to bet that if you call and let them know what will be going on ahead of time - they will be VERY helpful.

Best wishes. :)

Excellent Point!!

Whichever restaurant you choose, if you want to do something special or work with them, any restaurant will bend over to be helpful and accomodate you.

Appleorchard is right. Most of the WDW restaurants are noisy in the extreme. We recently loved the food at Citricos but would consider carefully whether to go again or not given how just plain noisy it was. For quiet romance, V&A can't be beat. Also, Artist Point is fairly quiet if you go later. CG is a zoo. Jiko is often a zoo. Bistro de Paris is another one likely to be more quiet. That's about it. WDW restaurant designers seem to like to create a "festive" atmosphere with open kitchens, bar seating at the kitchens, half booths, etc. To us, this just translates into too noisy.

Thanks for all of the great advice guys!
