Most Overrated things people rave about at WDW

DOLE WHIP (gross)
MICKEY BAR (just like any random icecream bar to me)
SOARIN
DOWNTOWN DISNEY (sorry, still call it this). ( just more stores to buy useless, overpriced crap)
CRYSTAL PALACE (over priced and mediocre)
EPCOT COUNTRIES (go the the REAL countries, not a mini, manufactured version)

UNDERATED: coin press machines. Super fun to look for them, collect the coins. cheap souvenir that you can spend your whole trip doing instead of buying a bunch of stuff. :)

4. Signature dining- we have been to a few, nothing special, we live outside of Chicago and have access to some of the best restaurants in the country
I'm with you on this one, too. We have many excellent restaurants where we live.

also...
Soarin'
Fantasmic
Parades

Illuminations, Fantasmic, Main Street Electrical Parade, World of Color in Disneyland, Wishes fireworks, etc. Worth seeing once if you can get a decent viewing position 10 to 15 minutes ahead of time. Not worth a FP+ nor a long wait.

The food at practically every sit down restaurant, either in the parks or the resorts.

Rates at Deluxe resorts.

Love the parks, especially MK. The rest, well you can find much better at much more reasonable prices almost anywhere in America.

I find the following to be overrated:
1. Illuminations ( much preferred the earlier version)
2. Disney Springs (loved Pleasure Island in its heyday!)
3. Disney deluxe resorts
4. Magic Kingdom Halloween and Christmas parties
5. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
6. Finding Nemo the Musical
7. Character Meet and Greets and Meals
8. Epcot World Showcase restaurants (so so food and jammed in seating)
9. Star Wars and Marvel crap
10. WDW merchandise
11. All four parks in their current states
12. Disney pins and the trading of them
13. Disney Vacation Club

I know it's not a popular opinion, but I think character meets (especially face characters) are overrated. I don't like them and last we went in 2014, DS didn't like them either. I guess they're just not for us but people really seem to love meeting, hugging and talking to characters.

  • Parades - Fun with kids but even then, woof. The crowding is just too much for it to be fun sometimes.
  • BOG - Awesome atmosphere, food was OK. Grey stuff was not delicious.
  • Great Movie Ride - I really enjoy it but it needs an update badly. The movies they reference are great, but toss a few new ones in. And give that tired script an overhaul.
  • Sci-Fi Drive In - Food is always just OK, and by the time you leave you've seen the "reel" at least 3 times. Another great atmosphere place, but more of a once and done for us.

1) Illuminations
2) Pin Trading
3) 7 dwarfs mine train--cute, but would never wait to ride
4) Dole Whip (the orange flavor was better)
5) Turkey Legs (gross !)
6) TSMM--not worth the wait or chaos
7) Construction which takes years to accomplish anything new
8) World Showcase---An excuse for many to get drunk at Disney
9) Peter Pan---I don't get it at all, cute but very blah
10) Vinylmation

Interesting thread - proves how different we all are. I tried the dole whip for the first time last year and I am in love with it. Have to get it every time now...

My top overrated:
1. POR (like it but don't feel like it's the most "deluxe" of the mods which seems to be the popular consensus). I actually like the other section of the resort (used to be Dixie Landings) better.
2. turkey legs
3. Mickey ice cream bars (good - but just good - not earth-shattering to me)
4. Disney Springs - too big and crazy for me...but I do like some of the restaurants
5. can't come up with another one - so 4 is all I got!!!

My top five:
1.) Illuminations (but I do love Fantastic)
2.) Dole Whips
3.) Mikey Ice Cream Bar
4.) Animal Kingdom Lodge (the idea is cool but it's just so darn far away)
5.) Parades (I know, I know! But to be fair, as a 20-something with no kids they're not really geared to me, either.)

You have a dole whip air freshener? I'm intrigued! Where did you get it?

Overrated for us:

Character Meets
Illuminations
You can/could get them in the Parks. I bought mine in the gift shop for Test Track and I also got a popcorn one in the AoA gift shop.

You can also get them on eBay/Amazon/ YourWDWStore if you want to spend crazy money
