Most Famous Person

i can think that because you are wrong on the bolded sentence. throughout the campaign, many many countries welcomed him to screaming crowds.

Tom was being sarcastic..

paul mccartney is still alive and still producing music

mj was a beatles fan. if that kinda puts it in perspective of the famous ladder.

Paul McCartney's fame as a solo artist is very minimal compared to The Beatles success. I can garuntee you that if you ask ten teenagers who The Beatles are, all ten will know who they are. But, only two may know who McCartney is.

The Beatles were also in what I would consider "MJ's time."

Everybody (well mostly) is a Beatles fan.

The Beatles are the world's favourite band. Paul McCartney even after several divorces is still one of the richest men in the world. Men get rich by people buying their records.

I love the Beatles.

mj was such a beatles fan that he died with his fingers grasped tightly around their music rights. ;)

it really really didn't seem that he was being sarcastic to me.

and paul mccartney, regardless of his fame as a solo artist or as the beatles, is still famous, because of the beatles, and he's still alive, so i think you're really just grasping at straws in this argument.

MJ was the most famous person alive before he passed on. No question.

In terms of people alive now it's probably Bush or Obama. Celebrity-wise maybe Brit Spears.

Seeing as people are throwing in people active a while back I'm gonna throw in Elvis.

I said he wasn't grateful. In all of his interviews I've seen he seems really cynical about it.

I think people have forgotten what the thread is about... The Beatles and Hitler are not our time, which is what the OP asked.

For me, I'd have to say it has to be someone like Barack Obama. Even though Obama's only been in the spotlight for a little over a year, he's already cemented his place in history. Whenever someone thinks of this time period and how blacks gained equal rights, they'll always remember how it started with the many boycotts, protest, ect. leading up to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech. And that ultimately lead to the United States' first black president, who is now a global icon.

And lol at the Twilight actor. I've never even heard of him. The most recognized figure of our time has to be someone who we could go anywhere in the world and they'd be known.
Yes, thank you. Obama is our first black president, he will be in HISTORY books for goodness sakes. I'm thinking he's more famous than anyone right now.
hitler, jesus, and the beatles are still very common no matter that they were all born many years ago (albeit some far more than others) we know who those people are and we grew up hearing about them on television and in word of mouth conversation. i very much believe that they should be considered "of our time" because they things they did changed the world to leave them famously/infamously a part of its day to day life.
Well, if we're going with that thought...Micheal Jackson is pretty up there. I'm thinking by 'our day' she's talking about more...modern people? I completely agree that those people are still very famous today, and I think it's because they're timeless. I can't really name an actor/singer of today that will be timeless.
How can you think a politician is more popular than a actor/musician? Politicians in the US are only known well by US citizens. Everybody else barely knows them. Now the Jonas Brothers, if you go to Europe Asia North America or South America, you will hear millions of girls screaming at the top of their lungs.
People all around the world heard about the US finally electing a black president. It was a huge step.

And only MJ could do that...That's what you get for outbidding Paul McCartney on The Beatles' catalog.

i heard that paul is getting (some) of the rights back. i don't exactly know what mj planned to do with what he's not giving back...i mean, he can't take it with him.

Internet sarcasm is hard to detect, especially when you give no clues such as smilies, extra periods, ect. Trust me.. Tom was being sarcastic.

And how am I grasping at straws? You're the one who used him in this. He may be famous because of The Beatles, but that doesn't mean people know him. I personally can only name two members of The Beatles; Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney. Their fame as a band much outweighs any of their fames as individuals.

Haha, I was thinking the same thing.

I think the Beatles > Micheal Jackson for that reason alone.

Well I think of McCartney first when I think of The Beatles. Then Lennon, then Starr, and then MAYBE Harrison.
I mean people know who was in the band, most people do.
People flock to see McCartney in concert, because to them, that's what they can see of The Beatles now.

Hmm...I hope that Paul does get the rights. I mean, they should be his, in my opinion. Maybe MJ wants to make sure that the world never forgets him. XD

No John Lennon?

John Lennon?! He had huge fame as a solo artist and peace activist. His murder devastated the world.

I totally agree.

I hate to sound rude, but I was never a big fan of MJ anyway. Yes, he was very talented, but not my style really.

Are you guys kidding? Elvis was/is more famous than everyone mentioned in this thread. :confused3

I can name a lot of people as famous as Elvis. I, for one, cannot wait until the MJ impersonators hit Vegas.

Well I think of McCartney first when I think of The Beatles. Then Lennon, then Starr, and then MAYBE Harrison.

Key word: NOW.

Back then, did they flock just to see Paul? Nope. And I should have knew John Lennon.. That was a mental error. So, I know three members lol.

And I think most people are missing the point here. The question was asked by the OP about the most famous person of our time. He was asked that by his dad, who grew up in the MJ era. To truly answer the OP's question, it's unfair to draw people who weren't nearly as famous in our era as others. Yes, they're very well known and still famous, but they were probably far more well known in other times, more than likely when we weren't alive. Jackson's pinnacle of his career was most likely in the early '80's. The Beatles' pinnacle was in the '60's. You get the point.
