I'm fairly new to DIS and stumbled across your trip report. Thanks so much...I haven't gotten anything done yesterday or today because I'm too busy reading your report!!! :rotfl:

You have a wonderful family and it's obvious you all have a great time together. You're making me even more excited for our upcoming trip!

My only negative on this report: I figured by coming in so late, it would be finished!! Now I have to wait along with everyone else to see how it ends. How dare you?!??!?!?!?!? :lmao:

Day 8 - Part 6

So, when we last left-off, we’d spent a great late-morning/early-afternoon touring the World Showcase, gotten really hot, and were returning to our resort.

I should have mentioned in the last chapter, that we did stop in the Mexican Pavilion to look for some earrings, so I guess Judy wasn’t too hot. She’s not going to let a little case of potential heat exhaustion get in the way of shopping. Actually, she had a mission. She had seen a green-stone bracelet in the gift shop when we were there a few days earlier and wondered if it would match some earrings she had. On this day, she had brought one of the earrings with her to compare it to the bracelet. They didn’t match, so no bracelet purchase. Lauren, however, did buy a couple of maracas, one for her and one as a gift for a friend.

At about 4 o’clock we were back at Kidani. I took a picture of the covered walkway to the bus stop for all of you Kidani lovers out there. It was added after our trip in 2009.

As soon as we walked into the building I could see an Ankole cattle on the savanna. (if there’s one, is it an Ankole cow? I guess so, but it sounds too much like “holy cow”.)

IMG_4041.jpg

Then we went up to our suite and enjoyed watching the animals from our balcony for about twenty minutes.

Does this next picture look like a zebra-unicorn to you?

IMG_4055.jpg

These next guys are Roan Antelope. Not to be confused with “Rowan and Martin”.
(Hey, what other trip report has “Laugh In” references?)

IMG_4056.jpg

At 4:30, we went to the pool. We didn’t have a lot of time before we needed to get ready for dinner, but we at least had enough to get cooled off. I had to take a few pictures of one of my favorite spots in the World to relax.

IMG_4059.jpg

Now that you’ve pored through those looking for Judy-sightings, I can tell you that she didn’t go with us to the pool. She stayed back in the room, resting in the air conditioning. But I’m sure you had fun examining them thoroughly. Hee hee hee. (Sorry. Was that mean of me?)

I left the pool a little bit before 5:00 because I had some business to attend to at the front desk. On my way to the pool earlier, I had asked at the front desk if they could do our Southwest on-line check-in for me and they said they could, but I’d have to be there, obviously. I got there a little early, so while I waited I took this picture of a wall of artifacts they have in the library. It seems like they put the “art” in artifacts.

IMG_4064.jpg

Precisely at 5 o’clock the front desk cast member did the on-line check in for me and it was a breeze. I probably shouldn’t advertise this, since I’m not sure if they’re supposed to (I look at it as similar to concierge help, but maybe they’re supposed to stick to Disney-related business?), but it was a huge help. We got boarding numbers in the “A” group, which meant that we should easily find seats together on tomorrow’s flight. I really appreciated that she did this for me.

Then I went back to the pool in order to round up the kids so we could change our clothes for dinner. We had reservations for Hoop de Doo at 7:15 and I wanted to catch a bus at 5:30 to start our trip to Fort Wilderness. I must have gotten ready before everyone else because I started taking animal pictures again. I think that these pictures were taken from one of the observation areas near the lobby.

YEAH!! and update just for ME!!

I whined and complained enough and you posted an update!!

I knew it would work!!

:cool1:

Great animal pictures!

Nothing cools you off like a dip in the pool. Did you have any trouble getting the kids to leave? I always have to drag Danielle out.

YEAH!! and update just for ME!!

I whined and complained enough and you posted an update!!

I knew it would work!!

:cool1:

I saw this post and thought "huh?" Then I realized that you (and a new reader) ninja-posted on me. I remembered CreightonsMomma and Tribilin bugging me for an update, but no you. (But I'm not surprised!)

*sigh*...

its THURSDAY, which means its not "before Thursday" and does that mean you'll be able to do an update soon??

huh?? huh?? huh??

Yes, something tells me you can expect an update soon. Well, the update that's up....don't go looking for another one!

last we saw, you guys were all skwinty and you know, if you skwint too long you'll get wrinkles!!

Is that what does it?

maybe tonight??

:confused3

I have plans tomorrow..

in case you were wondering..

Yes, I was wondering. I want this to be the most convenient TR for Avery&Todd that it possibly can be. ;)

I have to help my sister move..she bought a house...

lets go! show....road...get a move on..

:lmao:

Okay, okay!

I'm fairly new to DIS and stumbled across your trip report. Thanks so much...I haven't gotten anything done yesterday or today because I'm too busy reading your report!!! :rotfl:

:welcome: jkc0325! I'm glad to have you along for the ride, and thanks for the compliment! There are plenty of other TRs on here that can help you use up all of your free time also....lots of my readers are TR writers. Look at their signatures and you can find lots of great reading material!

You have a wonderful family and it's obvious you all have a great time together. You're making me even more excited for our upcoming trip!

Aw thanks! I'm truly blessed, with my wife and kids. :grouphug:

So, where're you staying on your trip? For how long? All that good stuff.

My only negative on this report:

What? A negative?

I figured by coming in so late, it would be finished!! Now I have to wait along with everyone else to see how it ends. How dare you?!??!?!?!?!? :lmao:

Looks like you'll have to get in line behind Avery&Todd in hounding me for updates. ;)

0 Judy's

I love the giraffe pictures and cannot wait until we stay there. The pool looks awesome too. :goodvibes

1 Judy! But I think someone already beat me to the punch. Going back to read now...

GREAT animal pix! Yeah, the zebra one does look like he has a horn thingy.

I really do wonder if those "artifacts" really are just that. THey seem a lot too accessible to me.

I hope Judy got some rest after her near heat stroke!! I hope she got in a cool shower and drank lots of water to re-hydrate (ahhh... that lovely hyphen!)

Yep, Pat's right... 1 Judy ('s arm) in Pic. #2.

Another round of beautiful pictures. I especially enjoyed the shot of the unicorn...er...zebra. And love the Laugh-In references. :goodvibes

1 Judy the second picture

:cheer2: Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

I knew somebody with sharp eyes :magnify: would notice that Judy-arm and bracelet.

What's black and white and red all over? A sunburned zebra. He looks llike he got a little too much sun.

Oh, I thought it was a skunk with diaper rash. :)

Great animal pictures!

Nothing cools you off like a dip in the pool. Did you have any trouble getting the kids to leave? I always have to drag Danielle out.

Thanks! No, I guess I had stressed enough when we were going down to the pool that we only had a short time before we had to leave for Hoop.

Good guess, but there was a tricky one. Pat caught it.

I love the giraffe pictures and cannot wait until we stay there. The pool looks awesome too. :goodvibes

I thought of you when I posted this, with all of the giraffe pictures.

1 Judy! But I think someone already beat me to the punch. Going back to read now...

Yep. Pat the stalker.

GREAT animal pix! Yeah, the zebra one does look like he has a horn thingy.

I really do wonder if those "artifacts" really are just that. THey seem a lot too accessible to me.

I know! I've said that...it'd be awful if someone broke them or took them. But do you think that they could have people sitting around making replicas?

I hope Judy got some rest after her near heat stroke!! I hope she got in a cool shower and drank lots of water to re-hydrate (ahhh... that lovely hyphen!)

I think that's pretty much exactly what she did.

Yep, Pat's right... 1 Judy ('s arm) in Pic. #2.

Good eye, but you just weren't stalker-ish enough this time.

Glennbo Stalker!

:lmao:

:rotfl2:

Another round of beautiful pictures. I especially enjoyed the shot of the unicorn...er...zebra. And love the Laugh-In references. :goodvibes

Sock it to me! I always liked Arte Johnson and Ruth Buzzi.

:cheer2: Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Oh, I thought it was a skunk with diaper rash. :)

If I'd known it was a chicken dinner, I'd have been a zillion times more vigilant!

And I thought it was a newspaper. :confused3

I know! I've said that...it'd be awful if someone broke them or took them. But do you think that they could have people sitting around making replicas?

Good eye, but you just weren't stalker-ish enough this time.

Well, it wouldn't surprise me what they do in the workshop... ANd I wonder if they just purchase modern "art" things from local bazaars on their scouting trips?

Next time. ;)

It's the elusive zebracorn! I wonder...if unicorns can only be approached by...ahem...pure young women, what can zebracorns be approached by?

Now that you’ve pored through those looking for Judy-sightings, I can tell you that she didn’t go with us to the pool. She stayed back in the room, resting in the air conditioning. But I’m sure you had fun examining them thoroughly. Hee hee hee. (Sorry. Was that mean of me?)
:lmao: (Since I'm never a Judy-contest participant -- I'm never quick enough on the draw -- I found this hilarious! Does that mean I'm mean, too?)

The concierge at the BC checked us into our flights, too, and it was so much nicer than waiting at the official airport check-in. Of course, we weren't checking any bags, so maybe that helped? I wasn't sure if they were supposed to, either...they looked like maybe they weren't, and were just being especially nice. :confused3

I still can't believe you're on your last evening! How did that happen!

(Also: I love giraffes.)

I always wondered if CMs at the front desk or Concierge would help do online check-in for your flights. I know you said that they might not do it all the time but it's good to know they at least did it for you in this instance. I'll keep that in mind next time I fly southwest and don't want to pay the extra $10 each way for early bird check in. :scratchin

I love the animal pictures. AKL and Kidani are so tranquil. What is your opinion on the smell of the animals? I have never smelt an animal smell (and I've worked with horses to know what animals smell like!) when I've been staying at or visiting AKL/Kidani.

I'm excited to hear about Hoop!

If I'd known it was a chicken dinner, I'd have been a zillion times more vigilant!

Yep, the winner gets to make me a chicken dinner.

And I thought it was a newspaper. :confused3

Oh, that answer's no fun.

Well, it wouldn't surprise me what they do in the workshop... ANd I wonder if they just purchase modern "art" things from local bazaars on their scouting trips?

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of them are from bazaars. There are some things behind glass, so maybe those are older/rarer.

Next time. ;)

Be ready!

It's the elusive zebracorn! I wonder...if unicorns can only be approached by...ahem...pure young women, what can zebracorns be approached by?

Well, since I took the picture, that should be enough to answer the question.

:rotfl2:

:lmao: (Since I'm never a Judy-contest participant -- I'm never quick enough on the draw -- I found this hilarious! Does that mean I'm mean, too?)

You've never approached a zebracorn have you?

The concierge at the BC checked us into our flights, too, and it was so much nicer than waiting at the official airport check-in. Of course, we weren't checking any bags, so maybe that helped? I wasn't sure if they were supposed to, either...they looked like maybe they weren't, and were just being especially nice. :confused3

With Southwest, this is just to get your boarding number, since they don't do seat assignments. Bags and everything are handled (no pun intended) at the airport.

I think the front desk people are happy to help you in any way they can, as long as they're not trying to check-in a new Magical Express busload of guests.

I still can't believe you're on your last evening! How did that happen!

I know! If we'd stayed an extra day, that would've given us another month or two of TR-time.

(Also: I love giraffes.)

I didn't realize that. I'm sure you enjoyed the pictures then.

:scratchin

Judy had asked her mom to do it for us, but when she tried to explain the procedure....her mom seemed a little overwhelmed. Like, "Mom, you go to www.Southwest.com..." "How many W's?"

I realized after this particular day, that I could probably do it from my phone and then pick up the boarding passes at the airport. But my phone is wonky when it comes to the internet, so this was much better.

I love the animal pictures. AKL and Kidani are so tranquil. What is your opinion on the smell of the animals? I have never smelt an animal smell (and I've worked with horses to know what animals smell like!) when I've been staying at or visiting AKL/Kidani.

No, nothing. I've never smelt an animal smell at AKL or Kidani. Hey, that sounds poetic.

I've never smelt
an animal smell
at AKL
or Kidani.

But there's a fine aroma
coming from Boma
that greets you
in the lobby.

:)

I'm excited to hear about Hoop!

I can't wait to make it up, er I mean, write it.

Yeah, I saw that. But at least it wasn't Marv. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

'zactly. ;) Actually, I thought he was going to get it because he was online shortly before I posted. But, I wasn't done putting it together yet, and I guess when I finished he was off.
