Every mosquito in Milwaukee lives in our backyard. I must be Godiva Chocolate to them because in minutes I have several more bites. The itch
is awful--I have tried everything I can think of for relief. Noxemia helped a little ---Any ideas?
I'd try dog spit if I thought it would help---

I'm like you, they hunt me down for my blood.
For starters, use protection, with deet. Benadryl cream helps with the itching. Ibuprofen will help with the swelling.

I know I've read other ideas from posters for the bites, but I don't remember what they were.

1 % hydrocortisone cream.

Calamine lotion.

Benadryl cream.

Lanacaine.

Aloe vera.

Any combination of the above.

If it's really bad, you may also need an oral antihistamime -- like OTC Benadryl.

DEET is the best proven mosquito repellant. Use sparingly, and wash off after you come in. Wear long sleeves/pants if possible. Avoid early morning and late evening times.

Hope you feel better!!

Toothpaste does work. :) I make my own little thing, though. Mix equal parts cornstarch and baking soda, with just enough water to make a paste. Dab on bites and let it dry. Helps the itch and takes away the redness. You can use just baking soda, too, but I find adding the cornstarch helps more.

I have a stick of lavender ointment that works great on bites and sunburns

They love me too, and like you, they seem to breed in my backyard! Ugh! Anyway, I find relief in rubbing alcohol or witch hazel... have to use it sparingly, for it can irritate my skin, but it seems to help with the really itchy bites. Try taking an oatmeal bath. That will help too!

Afterbite. It's got a bit of ammonia in it and it works well. (this from someone who lives in the mosquito ridden south)

Mosquitoes think I have BUFFET tattooed onto my forehead. I like either Afterbite or Benadryl Gel (comes in a bottle) for itch relief.

Thank you for all of the suggestions! I tried toothpaste and it did help.

Elmosmom- I must live next door to you :teeth: (Actually I'm in Wauwatosa....) DS and I are COVERED in bites too. I use tea tree oil and it works great!

They come at me with a napkin around their necks and a fork and knife too...:teeth: I especially love when I get a bite on the back of my leg by my knee or on my back where I can't reach.

I've found that the best way to keep the itching down is to put a hot washcloth over the bite for a few secods. It feels kinda weird at first but there will be a big difference in the scratchy part. I also use Itch X which works pretty well.

I want to get one of those mosquito magnets that run on propane for the back of my yard. My daughter has gotten cellulitis last year twice from mosquito bites and I really don't look forward to another summer of that!

Sounds like pediatirc talk. :p ;) :teeth:

My grandmother told me to use Vick's Vapor rub. I know, I know, sounds weird, but it actually works. Just rub a little over the bite. Oh, and as an added bonus, it clears up your sinuses. ::yes:: Not kidding, really it does. :D
