YEs I went ot the doctor today--but it seems odd that I am still in the "safe" area in regards to losing weight due to morning sickness in the first trimester.

I have lost 8 pounds since Sept 16 with 2 pounds just in the past week.

It just seems extreme to me and we are doing what we can to get nutrition in me that will stay in with me.

(And in this past week--It tends to be what junk food is available that sounds good--today I had 4 donuts b/c that is what would stay in me!)

Does that seem normal to you to lose that much weight and be okay?

Depends on your starting weight. I know a woman who was overweight and lost 25 lbs during her pregnancy by eating right for a change. Her doctor was okay with that.

When I was pregnant with my first child, I didn't really have any weight to lose. I had fairly severe morning sickness until my 6th month and I did not gain any weight through the first 5 months. None. But I did pack it on (23 lbs) on months 6-9. I think if I had been the slightest bit overweight, I would have definitely lost some pounds early on. But since I was so thin and probably not a big eater to begin with, I just didn't gain. Baby was growing, I was shrinking.

Now, if you're going to tell me you're pretty thin, I'd probably be a little nervous about the weight loss.

Nope far from pretty thin--but I was getting complimented on how great I looked for losing weight--until I started looking like crap.

I have not been eating healthily for 3 weeks now b/c I get sick.

I am almost in the normal range for my weight but have tons of weight to go before I'd be extremely thin. Maybe that is why he is not concerned. I'm still fluffy.:headache:

I was sick to my stomach for 9 months with each child. With my second I had gained 2 pounds when I was 7 months pregnant because I had lost so much before gaining. DS weighted 8 pounds 10 ounces, so baby gets what they need.

I lost about 10lbs the first trimester with each of my 3 kids. Don't worry, it comes back.....................with a vengence.

Aww, you poor thing!! Morning sickness is the worst. I used to say it was like a really bad hangover but without the fun of the night before! I hope it ends soon for you. I remember my Dr telling me to eat whatever was appealing to me and whatver I could get down. I know some women swear by potato chips and lemonade:confused3 have you tried those seasickness bracelets? Might be worth a shot. Feel better and congrats!!!

I lost 30 lbs in the first trimester with both kids. Total weight loss with ds was right at 40 lbs, dd was right at 30. I was under my pre-preg weight both times when I gave birth. (Started at 200 lbs, size 12, I'm 5'10") The only reason I lost less & gained back more with dd was that I was better at judging what would stay down. Basically whatever sounded good had a 50% chance of staying down. Also, if I'd go ahead and eat and puke, I could finish eating & it would usually stay down.

We used to want 3-4 kids. I'm absolutely stopping at 2 now though.

I keep wondering what I was thinking. Last time was BAD. And when it started this time--one of my first thoughts was CRAP--I forgot about this.

It may get better.

With my first I was getting sick 10+ times per day for the first 6 months and continued a few times a day for the remainder of my pregnancy. With my second and third it really only lasted the first trimester.

As for the weight loss, I think that's pretty normal. I lost an average of 15lbs during the first trimester with all of mine. It was a struggle with my first because I was very thin before I got pregnant. I kept track of everything I ate (number of grams of protein, etc). And immediately after getting sick, I would eat something. It's probably the only time I have ever stepped on a scale hoping that I would weigh just a pound or two more than I had last month.

With my first pregnancy I lost almost 30 pounds in the first 2 trimesters. I'm not thin by any means and was doing my best to eat, but morning sickness had other ideas. My doctors were not worried as things were fine. During the last trimester I wa sable to gain a few pounds, so any concerns that they may have had were gone. With pregnancy 2 I lost a little but not much. I'm currnelty pregnant with #3 and and have lost about 5 pounds, not much but each pregnancy is different. Just do your best to eat healthy. if needed your doctor might suggest extra vitamins.

I feel for you! It sounds horrible!

Ah Pregnancy, the best diet I have ever been on! I weighed 20 and 30 pounds less right after delivery of my 2 girls, than I had when I concieved! I spent most of those 18 months throwing up and unable to eat much.

I did a lot of liquids--chewing made me ill. If you can tolerate shakes you might get some protien shakes. They don't taste too bad, have lots of nutrients and really will give your body what you need. You can find good ones at GNC (or Rite Aid).

I was overweight so my Dr was not concerned at all about my weight loss. As PP said, the baby gets what they need first. You really don't want to be indulging in junk food. There is no nutritional value in donuts. At least ice cream has protein and dairy! You want to make sure that you are getting good quality calories. And make sure you are taking your vitamins!

I lost weight at the beginning of each pregnacy due to morning sickness, which lasted at least 4-5 months with each kid. With my youngest, however, I started losing and kept losing. I finally started gaining after 7 months and gained a total of 6 lbs. He was over 9 lbs when he was born, so about 48 hours after having him I looked HOT!

Oh, you poor thing! My pregnancies were like that too. I lost 10 pounds in the early months, and I am thin. I was around 115, so I ended up in the 90's! My doctor told me not to be overly worried and he assured me that women in third world countries gave birth to 7 pound babies. He did put me on IV's at one point with my 2nd daughter and things got much better around 4 months with both of them.

The good news is I ended up gaining almost 25 pounds with each pregnancy, and I had big, healthy babies ( 7.5 and 8.8).

So I know how truly horrible it is, but hopefully things will get better! I agree with eating whatever appeals to you. The baby will be fine and there's plenty of time for healthier foods later. Now you're in survival mode!

With my first pregnancy, I had severe morning sickness well into my fourth month and was fine for months 5,6,7,8..and then it all started again in my 9th month. I had gained wieght during those months so the drs weren't really concerned. I delivered my son weighing in at 119 lbs. I started that pregnancy at 112. DS was 6lbs 11 oz. and overdue according to their records. I think as long as everything seems to be going along normally and that there are months when you aren't losing but gaining they let you go on through.

How I wish I could see 119 again...even 9 monts pregnant! :lmao:

I lost 8 pounds in the first trimester, I didn't have morning sickness but I had evening sickness! Had it every day at 5pm, I could set my clock by it! Then I finally got over the evening sickness and my niece gave me the stomach flu that lasted almost an entire week.

After losing 8 pounds I went on to gain 28 (what I like to call 'Carb-Fest 2005') and everything was fine!!

On the last visit to my OB before my daughter was born, I weighed 2 (yes 2) pounds more than I did on my first visit several months before

I continued wearing my regular clothes the entire pregnancy and finally put on a maternity dress the week she was born just to get some use out of it.

The doctor said what happened was I continually lost weight off myself during the pregnancy so the baby weight never showed. Our daughter was 8-lbs, 6-oz at birth and perfectly healthy. Good thing for me was I never had to worry about taking off weight afterwards.

Follow the doctor's advice and try not to worry. Best wishes.
