Anything work for you? My doctor told me to eat saltines, I told her it is not helping I can't keep them down and she said all I can do is to hang in there. I called in sick to work d/t nausea and vomiting before I knew I was pregnant a few weeks ago and I do not want to call out again but this is AWFUL. I am miserable. I get hungry, I take a bite or two and then I pay for it for hours. I feel horrible. I work 12 hour shifts, so missing one is a big deal. But 12 hours is a long time to try to get through when you feel horrible.

I had all day morning sickness for 9 months. It was awful. What I found to help was eating super cold watermelon first thing in the morning (don't ask me why). My husband would bring it to me when I was still in bed. I think something about the sweetness and the liquid content really helped. (But try finding watermelon in the middle of winter!) Super cold canned pears also helped.

I also wore those SeaBand things on my wrists (they are for motion sickness). I don't know if they really helped but psychologically they did!

After the first couple of weeks I wasn't actually sick, but had the nauseous feeling all day. I could only work 1/2 days per my doctor because I felt so bad. That was all I could manage. I think I went on some kind of medical disability (can't remember exactly--12 years ago).

I think you have to keep experimenting and see what makes you feel the best.

Good luck! And Congratulations!!

I had debilitating nausea (no vomiting that goodness) that lasted through my 5th month. I endured it with my first child but had a new GYN with my second child and he put me on anti nausea meds. They were a godsend. You don't have to live with this--it's not good for you. There are several safe medications that take the edge off.

I had it for the 1st trimester with both my pregnancies, but it was really really bad with my twins (second pg). I didn't know what would help, back then. My DR also told me saltines, but it didn't work. I have since learned (from cruising) that seabands and ginger pills help for nausea (works for me) and I heard that green apples do too (haven't tried them though). Be careful not to lose too much weight. My 1st pregnancy (singleton), I lost weight due to not being able to eat during that 1st trimester and I was too thin to begin with (went from 106 to 100 over the 1st 3 months and my DR was not happy with me and thought I was doing it on purpose...I was 23 and looked 18, so I think he thought I was a young girl trying to keep skinny and I wasn't at all...I made up for it in the last 2 trimesters and gained 40 pounds). I started off my 2nd pregnancy with extra weight and lost several pounds in the 1st trimester but it didn't get noticed and then I gained well over 40 pounds (and delivered a month early too).

I feel SO BAD for you!!! I just got through this about 7 weeks ago. Saltines made me sick too.

Protein helps. Anyway you can get it, eat it. For me, it was a glass of chocolate milk (made the old fashioned way of syrup and milk with a spoon). I would eat a bowl of cheerios and milk RIGHT before I went to bed because if I woke up without eating, I would instantly be sick.

When I was at work, inbetween meals, I would eat peanut butter with a spoon, or homemade granola bars (with almonds, cashews, honey, butter, vanilla, and some chocoate chips - the nuts did the trick). Wal-Mart brand granola bars were great snacks at work as were fruit strips from taget. For some reason dry sugary cereal (which I DON'T eat...ever) was a good snack.

Things I normally ate were out of the question: Chicken. Oh lord, I can still hardly eat it. I was fine with ground beef (which was weird because I never eat red meat).

I would eat a little bit of cheese every now and again. I would sip Sprite one day and be fine, and then the next day it would make me sick.

Buy some lemon gelato. The smell of lemon gets the nausea away for a short time. Chew mints - which only worked for about 5 minutes for me...but ANYTHING was better.

I was on the anti-nausea pills for about 36 hours but had terrible side effects that made me even more sick. It was awful!

hope you feel better soon!!!!!

With my DS I didnt have much problems just at night kinda like a car sickness I just sucked on mint lifesavers spearmint. With DD it was kinda bad but not long- 7 skittles, Lugi's lemon ice & sea bands.

I had to take zofran in order to not throw up. Tried everything else including other medications, but that was the only thing that worked. Good luck.

The only thing that worked for me (with DS--and all day sickness) was Fruit Loops. Yeah. Fruit loops.

had to be the brand name stuff too--no generic fruit-ohs or anything.

A handful in the morning BEFORE I rolled (literally) out of bed. Before peeing or brushing teeth or anything.

A handful right after brushing teeth (little kids toothpaste too--the mint stuff killed me, but I could tolerate the fruity)

A handful before eating or drinking anything else. Small handfuls throughout the day. During the night, when nature called 3 or 5 times, a handful then.

The OB said it had more to do with keeping something in my stomach at all times (to keep the acids down) than the Fruit Loops, but nothing else worked--I tried cheerios, apple jacks, ginger ale/candies--nothing would work.

until I found the Fruit Loops.

If you can avoid antiemetic meds in the first trimester I would (while your baby is developing). I used to drink lemonade to help with nausea. Pickles may help too. Just keep trying different things to find what will help your nausea. I never had debilitating nausea with my pregnancies, it was just intermittent, usually when I tried to brush my teeth. If it gets bad enough you will need your doctor to order you something, but I hope you find relief with something natural instead.

I had it for the first 3 mos of my first pregnancy. I was on the thin side and lost weight during this time. I remember wondering if it was worth it (it was!) The only reason I could figure they called it "morning sickness" was because it started in the morning. Mine lasted all day.

I remember eating alot of baked potatoes in those days. If I smelled fried foods it was enough to send me to the bathroom.

Hang in there!

TC :cool1:

OP- (((())))) and congrats! Its been a while for me, but I remember with my 2nd my OB suggested sleeping pills- I though it was crazy- but his wife was pg at the same time and her ob suggested it and it worked. I didn't take them- I carried plain old cherios with me everywhere- could only tolerate that and celery until my 5th month and lost nearly 20lbs for each pregnancy.

But I think it was suggested that unisom works.

I'm so sorry, I was sick till 20 weeks, then it just disappeared. I never took medication, my OB was going to prescribe me some when it stopped. Nothing really helped, but I did learn what I had to avoid like the plague. I think it's different for everyone, and don't want to make you sick reading the list.

Feel better!

OP, I feel for you.

I had morning sickness all day, every day of my pregnancy and then, ironically, for about 6 months after.

Funny how I'm seeing things on this thread that made me feel better!! Ice cold watermelon was my FAVORITE thing. For some reason, I usually held it down and the high water content kept me hydrated (as best as possible).

I craved Fruity Pebbles (similar to Fruit Loops!) like mad!! Something about them tended to settle my stomach a bit and I ate them several times a day.

Anything with ginger is good - Ginger Ale worked well.

I didn't know about Sea Bands at the time or I would have tried them. I suggested them to a pregnant friend recently and she said they helped "a bit" with her nausea.

Big thing is to give into your cravings - your body is telling you what you need. And stay hydrated!! Small sips of ice cold water (sweet tea was also great) all day long was how I made it without being hospitalized. I actually weighed 15 lbs less the day I gave birth than I did when I got pregnant (and sure, I did have 15 lbs to lose, but that's just not healthy for you or the baby).

Ask your doctor for a prescription for Zofran! It is an anti-nausea medication that is safe for pregnant women, and there is a cheap generic available. There are minimal side effects.

I don't understand why people suffer unnecessarily in this day and age! Of course it's maybe better not to take medication. But I think it's better for your baby that you are able to get proper nutrition and hydration!

If I was pregnant and very sick and had a doctor who was unwilling to prescribe me an anti-nausea medication, I would switch doctors.

Edited to add: I am not pregnant, but I took a lot of Zofran for about 6 weeks while I was very sick before having my gallbladder removed. My family doctor was originally hesitant to give me a large prescription (I think she only wanted to give me 10 tablets) because she did not know there was a generic (ondansetron) available. The generic has been available since 2006 - I paid $7 for 30 tablets with insurance. They make Zofran (and generic) in orally dissolving tablets, so you don't even have to drink anything if you are very sick.

Don't assume your doctor knows.

I had horrendous 24 hour morning sickness for 4 or 5 months.

I didn't take medication, but I found a couple of things helped. First, I kept those red and white peppermints on hand. The peppermint helped settle my stomach. I also found that non-acidic fruit helped. Don't know why...I guess the sugar and water combination was settling.

Its funny how different things work for different people.

I had terrible sickness with both pregnancies, I was admitted to the hospital for IV's regularly with both for the first four months. 1987 and 1992.

My daughter had the same thing but was given Zofran which was a Godsend for her.

I can tell you peppermint helped somewhat for me and toward the end watermelon was great also. It really helps if you are getting dehydrated its full of water.

Good Luck!

Just remember the wonderful gift you will receive at the end of all of this.
Feel better soon

Add me to the list of all-day morning sickness for the entire pregnancy. Not fun at all, I totally feel for you. Heck I was throwing up even in the delivery room. :lmao: We went to WDW and the whole family teased me that I never missed a garbage can in all 4 parks. :upsidedow Then magically as soon as the baby came out I felt fine. I'm just one of those people who can't tolerate the hormones I guess. I had it equally as bad with my second son. I tried 3 different Rx drugs, seaband bracelets, crackers, nothing helped. :( But I do agree with the previous replies about eating something before you lift your head off the pillow in the morning. I kept ritz crackers next to the bed and would eat 4 or 5 of them before I sat up. It did help a little bit. Hang in there!!! My boys are 11 and 13 now, it's all just a blur.

Papaya Enzyme!

You can get it at GNC or any vitamin shop. Probably Walmart too. It is all natural and works great for morning (all day) sickness. I had the same thing when I was pregnant. I recommend it to any one who is pregnant or suffering from nausea, heartburn or upset stomach.

They are chewable and taste good. Hope you feel better soon.

I was very sick from week six until about an hour after delivery. I was so dehydrated by week 8 that they literally could not draw my blood. The only thing I could keep down was sprite as far as liquids went so my dr told me to drink as much as I could. They also gave me zofran. If I missed one dose I was hugging the bowl... I still threw up while taking the zofran, but a lot less and it helped me keep some food down. Without it nothing stayed down, with it I was at least able to eat saltines, plain pasta, peanut butter and hard candy. Water and meat were impossible no matter what! I really missed out on thanksgiving and Christmas that year. Do what works for you and do not worry about the people that say something should work for you - everyone is different and you have to do what works for you. People who have never been that nauseated for that long have NO idea! Good luck!
