I have to say, it's given us lots to discuss on these discussion forums. I've read lots of interesting view points.

Don't forget the "Disney After Hours" for $149 or the additional MNSSHP events added to this year's line up.

Welcome back!

The after hours party is mentioned in the article you linked ... the increased number MNSSHP events was mentioned on a Jim Hill podcast from this month. I think it was from the discussion on Fastpass history.

I must have skipped over that part on that link since I stopped reading after I read the first part.

Are they still getting rid of the fairy godmother and others as well? I am starting to think that Jim Lewis was a Saint compared to Ken Potrock!

All these recent changes is making me not wanna go to Disney in 2018+

We have our dec 2016 trip planned, where I've invited my best friend from LA. Maybe we will squeeze in one more trip in 2017.

Afterwards? By 2018, kids will be 5/9. Atlantis seems like a good option-- after all, atlantis won't be considered more $$ given all of disneys nickel n dime-ing. And I heard Atlantis is Disney meets Vegas on a tropical beach.

Buh bye Disney, the pixie dust is gone from my eyes. Can't wait to downsize you (or be that owner who rents you) outa my life!!

Atlantis is our favorite non Disney location - and the place we will be going instead of Disney after our upcoming summer trip as well. Hubby has put a ban on Disney travel due to all the price hikes.

Right, because Atlantis is just so inexpensive. I'm surprised that place doesn't charge a fee just to look at their web site.

Y'all are nuts!

Besides, if everyone starts going there instead, they'll eventually hire Ken Potrock to take away your Atlantis perks too.

Antlantis IS expensive, but with the way Disney is going, it's pretty much even Steven.

I rent 200 of my "premium resort" dvc points out, rent a harborside one week 1bd for 2k or $2500 (so it's a wash) or I actually make a few $$.

Or, I rent all 400 of my "premium resort" dvc points out, get a 2bd at harborside for between 3500-5k. Again, I might make some money.

Plus, I don't need to buy entry tickets into Atlantis.

All I'm out is food costs, and there will be ways to minimize that. Disney food is not cheap either, although marginally cheaper than Atlantis.

Airfare from NYC is pretty much the same.

So at Atlantis, I get the beach, water parks, the carribbean/nature options and a exciting new location that's not pretending to sprinke magic that's not really there. I heard Atlantis is absolutely awesome and I'm tired of disneys money grubbing grabbing. I'll either save money or break even at Atlantis over Disney....

What am I missing here?

In my opinion, Atlantis is "meh." Yeah, there are water slides. Beyond that, I don't see how it's that much different from any other beach out there, except that it's vastly more expensive. You can't even go for a run around Atlantis, because all the neighboring communities are gated and won't even let you go for a jog. Waste of money, in my opinion. We had fun, but it was insanely expensive. To be fair, I have zero interest in casinos. If you like casinos, maybe you would feel differently. I did have fun on the trip, but not because of anything special about Atlantis. I would have been just as happy at any beach.
