More updated Fastpass+ information

I haven't had a problem with the Fastpass window. If it runs out, it runs out. No big deal. Sometimes dinner and whatnot gets in the way so we just toss em. We are usually fine though. I'm more bothered when they are distributed by noon or the return time is 7 hours later. But it is what it is.

As for the smart phone thing. I'm REALLY happy about that one. #1, before they added wifi I could not get any kind of reception because my carrier sucks here (stuck in a contract for a few more months). Their wifi isn't perfect, but at least I can connect in most areas. #2, I really love their app! The wait times are very accurate, much more so than any of the touring plans (including the one I pay for). So when I find myself surrounded by crowds and long lines, I'll check the line waits in the other parks through the Disney app. If it's lighter elsewhere, and it often is, I'll head over.

Just like with a ride that broke down, they can use the FP for something else.

When the 11pm parade is cancelled due to weather (shortly before its due to start, which does happen), guests will possibly have zero interest in a FP for a ride, hence why they chose the parade FP.
I'll leave it at that as we're going around in circles :)

There has always been some level of inequality at Disney.

AND, the "superusers" have benefited greatly from the inequality of knowledge by taking advantage of certain things that Disney allowed. "Superusers" never wanted true equality in practice because if there was then their advantage would disappear.

This is part of the angst you see in these multiple threads about FP+. They dont like having to play on a level playing field with the unwashed masses.

Couldn't disagree more. If that were the case, FP info wouldn't be here on the dis, for everyone and anyone to read. No one would be willing to share information about it to others here. But, actually, people here are always happy/willing to help people out with their FP questions.

Easywdw is a great help for FP info too. Again, available to everyone and anyone, and it's free.

If these so called "super users" really didn't want a level playing field, they'd probably be crawling around MK wearing nothing but some cloth around their waist, stroking their FPs and referring to them as 'precious'.

I hear where you are coming from, but I see it slightly differently. Is it not a fact of life that those who are informed are generally at an advantage because they have taken the initiative to research and plan? All those equal opportunities have been there and the only thing putting anyone at a disadvantage in that respect is lack of information. But that information is available to anyone who will take the time and effort to research it. Sure, some people don't want to plan their vacation, but they can make their decision not to plan having all the information to hand and then deciding that they feel they will have a better trip without planning to excess.

It's exactly what Planogirl says :thumbsup2

There is no inequality at the Disney parks. Everyone has the same opportunity to enjoy the same benefits as any other visitor. Ignorance isn't what causes true inequality.

It's one thing offering additional perks to people who have paid more for their Disney resort than the next person, but it's entirely another where guests have a lower form of the advantages because of what they bring with them / where they come from when they check in (referring by way of example to someone who does not have a text and data plan or a smart phone).

I agree with this. DW and I took our three nephews to WDE in 2001 -- my second visit ever and first ever with the FP system. I think the pre-trip information package we got from Disney included information about FP. We were able to use it without a lot of studying and without much of a plan. It's an easy concept and it's free to anyone who visits the parks.

Absolute truth. We have only been three times since FP was introduced. Anytime I hear someone say they're going to WDW, particularly if they are going for the first time, I tell them about FP, even thought I don't consider us "super users."

Just to check myself on the inequality perception, I started to wonder if it was somehow "unfair" that someone who is an expert at FP and loves to ride a particular ride, say ToT, used the FP system to ride 6-10 times in a day, for example. I couldn't convince myself this was unfair because it means they are not in line or using FPs for TSM, RnR or ST and there are most likely guests who are similarly fans of those rides, ride them over and over and aren't in other lines.

Interesting discussion. Here's another perspective to consider, for the Canadian visitors. We love our iphones as much as anyone, but having data turned on while in the US for us is outrageously expensive - and there are a lot of us that travel to Disney every year.

There is free wifi available in the parks. There has been speculation that this is partially why wifi was added, for this very reason.

Anytime I've not been back for the FP time window, it was NOT my fault.

**Other rides go down while you're in line, they don't tell you until you've been standing still for 15 minutes. But you've already waited 45!! (and the sign at the front said 30 minutes) So, now instead of missing one ride, you're going to miss out on two because the CM won't let you in the FP lane late.

**Sit down restaurant service is slow, or you're eating done but your server has gone missing. You finally give her your credit card and she's gone for another 5 minutes taking other orders. I guess you could sprint from the restaurant to the ride before your FP expires.

**You get into a show and it starts late and, unless you're a season pass holder how do you know how long the show is, or how many pre-show rooms there are etc.

**That theme park pizza your kid ate is giving him tummy aches. He needs to sit down and rest. Too bad about the FP you got earlier.

1 hour window might seem reasonable under perfect operating circumstances, but Disney is often the cause of delays or screwed up perfect plans.

There was a reason they never turned people away no matter what time the FP said -- it was 'Bad Show'. Former CMs know what I mean. The concept of 'Guest - Host' was something they used to teach at Disney CM school.

Of all of your examples, the only one that would result in your missing your 75 minute return window for reasons that you did not have control was 'my kid got sick'.

Conversely when we travel to Canada, data there is expensive also. But you can connect to wi-fi and there are no data charges. We had no prblems doing that in any of the parks. Good luck.

Tiki room anyone?

This all boils down to what caliber of fastpass would still be available same day in the park. That is something we won't know until this gets under way.

If you had a FP for BTMRR and it broke down, and you could pop on and just pick one up for Space Mountain, then great. I'm happy. But this is going to depend on how many headliner attraction fps they hold back for same day, and it will also GREATLY depend on how the "awesomenss tiering" is set up. If they only let you replace it with something else in the same "awesomeness tier" as BTMRR and you already had used a FP for that one for the day, then the only replacements could be the Tiki room and Philharmagic.

The tiering of rides for FP distribution could turn out to be the biggest change in all of this.

It doesn't matter how reasonable your arguments may or may not be. This ship has sailed and it's futile to even argue it. They are indeed firm with the window and that apparently is not changing. On any given occasion you are free to visit Guest Relations and complain, and they may or may not do anything about it. And you may or may not wasted half an hour or more to trek across the park and wait in line to do so.

.

I like the Tiki Room! :rotfl2: Not that I'd waste a FP on it.... Perhaps the Stitch Ride in a better choice?

In the Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room
In the Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room
All the birds sing words and the flowers croon
In the Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room

We sure are because those people are going to be bummed because the parade that they wanted to see was cancelled not because of the opportunity cost of a FP.

And I LOVE the Philharmagic. But I use it as an example all the time too. Just because I'd never use a fastpass for it.

And thanks. I'll probably be singing that song all day now! :rotfl:

Enjoy the song :thumbsup2 :lmao:

Isn't it possible to be disappointed on both counts? Maybe they would have chosen a FP for the afternoon parade or for Wishes had they known they wouldn't be watching the night parade. It is possible to have the night parade cancelled but have Wishes go on as planned. Or maybe Wishes was at 10, went off fine, then the rain started and the parade was cancelled. Too bad, so sad. Missed opportunity. But isn't that technology cool?

That doesn't actually change the PP's point.

The ability of 'superusers' to take full advantage only exists because a huge percentage of guests don't utilize FP.
