Can we take the DCL buses to port only, and then on the way back rent a car? Or do we have to go both ways on the bus?

If we can do this, do we need to call the car rental places for a 'pick up' or will they just be there waiting when we get off?

We would want to rent from someone who would allow us to 'drop off' at the airport instead of back at port.

Thanks,
DJ

Our TA has always told us he can do any combination we ask him, from full transfers to only a one way deal. I suspect you could arrange with Disney a similar deal.

As far as the one-way car rental, the TA has also told us he has personally done that twice to perfection. I would assume the rental agencies can pick up with a courtesy shuttle or the like, Avis appears to be a popular choice with some cruisers.

It is possible to take Disney transportion just one-way. On our last cruise (two weeks ago), we did the opposite. We rented a car from Avis at the airport and dropped it off at the Avis close to port. On the return trip, we bought one way transfers from Disney to go to the airport. The one way transfers were $25 per person.

Thanks! I would guess that means Avis has a shuttle to the ship from their rental office at PC, right?

I am just thinking that we really do not have to be home until Sunday, and maybe we can go to WDW for a day on Saturday (in a rental car) and head to the airport on Sunday (and return the car).

The one thing I like about the shorter cruises is that there is time for both the parks AND the cruise. The one thing I don't like is that the shorter cruises are TOO short! I want both the parks and the cruise, but we can only do it in 1 week! DH can't take off for 2 weeks very easily.

Oh well.....thanks for the info, it is good to know we can do this. NOW I have to work on DH. ;)

We are doing exactly what you are thinking. We are using Disney transport from the airport to the port. After the cruise we have a reservation with Avis. We will catch their shuttle, get our car, and spend the day at the parks. We plan on returning our car at the airport on Sunday when we fly out. It just works out too good for the cruise to end on Saturday. How can we be so close to the parks and not go for at least one day. Good luck working on your husband. I made the air reservations so mine didn't have a choice!!!

Can I ask where you are picking up your Avis rental. I tried to search for a price for Avis but they don't list anything at Port Canaveral.

Thanks,
Lyn

And speaking of special circumstances.....
Anybody know if the DCL buses are normally equipped with lifts to transport electric scooters or will this have to be a special request?? I just spent two weeks at WDW (off site and on-site) where I spent a huge amount of time wondering why the transportation (mostly from off-site to the parks) was billed as accessible but had no vehicles with lifts...(except Mears). I sure don't want an instant replay in May. I would rather get my info about this from DISers who've been there, done that because, although I worked with the transport companies in Orlando to find transport with lifts, they didn't seem to know what they had.

Dave is correct, the location code is P3F.
My reservation is to pick up at 8:30 Saturday morning at the port and to return 8:30 Sunday morning at the airport. I was able to get a full size for 43.96 after taxes. Hope this helps!!

Does that mean the 'shuttle' picks you up at 8:30 at the ship? I wouldn't think you could pick up a car by that time. Don't they just start letting people off the ship at that time?

OK, DH is not on the bandwagon yet about renting a car and going to WDW for the day (Saturday) when we get off the ship and then fly out on Sunday instead.

He thinks that it will be afternoon before we can get to the park (after going to the car rental place, driving to WDW and then checking into our resort so we can get our parking pass). He also thinks the park will be packed since it is a Saturday (we are going in September).

NOW, has anyone done this before? When have you been able to get to the park? And I can see that MK might be really packed, but would Epcot be alright on a Saturday? We love Epcot and I would be thrilled to just visit there and maybe MGM.

What do you guys think?

Yes. We travelled in April 2002. We had 2nd seating breakfast and didn't disembark until between 8:30/9:00 a.m. We had to wait for the second Avis van (the first was full). We were on Main Street USA by 10:30/11:00 a.m.

Note: We did not check into a resort/get parking pass, as we were flying out that same night. If your room is held with a credit card - you shouldn't have to check in before going to the park. You would have to pay for parking I guess, but that's not that big of a deal.

It is very do-able.

Thanks for the great website it has lots of fabulous information. I am going to go with Budget they seem to have the best prices.

Thanks again,

Lyn

HI, we are also taking the one way transport from the airport to Port Canaveral. I was told that the first bus leaves at 10:30 a.m. My grandmother is in a wheelchair so I requested that a lift bus pick us up. A lady called today to confirm that the bus would be there for us and wanted to know what time we planned to be picked up. I would definitely call and tell them that you would like a lift bus as well.
On the way home we will be renting a car from Enterprise. They have an office on Merritt Island and are going to pick us up at the Port. We will be spending a few days in Delray Bach and then plan on returning the car to the airport location in Orlando.

We are doing the exact same as above. Avis from MCO to OKW for 1 night...........then drive the car to AVIS, take shuttle to port on Sunday morning(Feb 22). Then using DCL busses back to MCO.
