So we are traveling as a group of 5. We want to book a family verandah cabin but because of the tight quarters we also are thinking of booking an inside cabin across the hall. For showering, getting ready, napping etc. The thing is we want all family members to have access to both rooms with the key cards. Can we do this?

No. We’ve asked about this in the past, and were told it’s one chip/card per door.

No, your KTTW card can only be programmed to open one stateroom door. So they will give you access on your card only to the room you are booked in. You may request a second card that would give you access to your other room. It's only purpose would be to unlock the second room (it won't work for charging items to your onboard account or as ID on/off the ship, etc.) So if you feel everyone needs a second card, you can certainly ask at guest services.

Tip: it you have two key cards back to back (in a lanyard or wallet) the tap to open won’t work:(

As mentioned you can't have one card open more than one door but you can request a blank card for door entry only. You can't use it to charge, or for ID, or to leave the ship (first hand experience on that one!)

Here is a pic of the blank card you will get from guest services:

We've experienced the same thing several times. The odd thing is, on our Alaska cruise (Wonder) they DID reprogram my KTTW so that it would open both doors. I don't know how - they claim it can't be done now, but for that cruise I had one card that opened both of our rooms. Odd.

I sailed on the Fantasy last year February 2017 and they keyed our keycards for both staterooms. I thought they would give me a blank card but she said "no just give me your card and we can give you access to both rooms with the same card". So looks like sometimes they will and sometimes they won't.

This used to make me crazy to have to take it out of the pouch every time...until last cruise when I finally realized I could attach a second pouch (old one brought from home) to my lanyard so I could use either key without removing them.
