More technical questions for first family trip to DLR

Hello DLR vets. I’ve got more questions as a WDW East-coaster about tickets and MaxPass (which looks like a cool system). I’ve been to DLR solo just before Cars Land opened (missed it by a week), but this is our first time as a family. We will be there in June during the “reservation” stage of Star Wars. Here are a few more questions – and thank all of you for your previous answers, especially HydroGuy and his excellent DLR for WDW info.

1. If we have bought electronic tickets (3 day hopper) from Undercover Tourist, how do we technically connect them to MaxPass. On a previous question, you guys noted that you MUST assign a ticket a name on the first entry or you can’t do it again, so we will do that properly. But, when we buy MaxPass, how do we connect everything? I assume you can buy MaxPass ahead of time, before you get in the park, correct?

2. I know you don’t HAVE to get a printed ticket if you have electronic, but can you choose to get one printed at a ticket window if you’ve already paid for it and have it in the app? I think this would be easier since all 5 tickets will be on one phone to just have a ticket for each person to use at the entry point, as well as to use for Fastpass.

3. At Universal Orlando (with front of the line passes), we all wore lanyards for easy access to our room keys, especially the kids who don’t have wallets. Do you see a lot of lanyards at DLR for fastpass entry, since it’s tied to the ticket now?

That’s it for now, but I’ll probably have more soon. Can’t wait for the trip! Fingers crossed that there are not a million people there during the reservation stage…

1. You cannot buy MaxPass for those tickets until you are scanned into the park. I recommend getting there early and being one of the first in line at a gate. They will usually pre-scan the first several people in the line, so you can just use your phone, get all your paper tickets in hand, then you can immediately add MaxPAss for the day and make your first selection. You will have to purchase MaxPass every day separately if it wasn't part of the initial ticket.

2. You will be given printed tickets at the entry gate. You can get them ahead of time from a ticket booth but there is really no reason to. They are going to have to take everyone's photo anyway for first use. This is very normal and will go quickly.

3. Lanyards are pretty common. You can place your paper ticket barcode-out and use that to scan at all FP points. It should work like a charm!

Have fun!

Thank you, BrianL. Is there any advantage to buying tickets directly from the Disneyland site or app? Obviously it will cost a little more that way, but just trying to make sure I'm not choosing poorly. We have used Undercover several times before and trust them, but just curious.

Probably the only "advantage" is that you can purchase MaxPass ahead of time when purchasing direct. But, as BrianL said, MaxPass can be added once your ticket is scanned. Also, adding MaxPass after the fact gives you the option to add it day by day vice when booking direct, you pay for MaxPass for every day of your ticket length.

UCT works well. I used tickets from there on my last trip. It was easy. As Caylene said you do have to add MP every day, but it's easy and then you can decide if you want it every day. We did it on day one, and we killed almost everything we wanted to ride, so we didn't bother with it on the other two days. It costs the same either way.

Love using lanyards! We had bought some for Universal Express Pass and started using them at DLR with MaxPass. It is so much more efficient to have each person scan their ticket at the MaxPass reader than to have one person 1. pull out phone 2. pull up app (hoping it works) 3. find MaxPass 4. Scan and swipe 5 times. This is how MP lines back up.

When you add the tickets to the DL app is when you want to assign each ticket a name if you buy them from UCT. So they are all active in your app when you reach the gates. After you scan in at the park, you'll buy MP using a pre-loaded payment method in the app. Don't forget you'll need the 3-digit security code from the back of the credit card on file.

It's really all much easier than it sounds.

If you're buying the promo tickets from Disney, the advantage is that MaxPass is $10 rather than $15 per day (if you get it when you purchase your tickets). However, when buying from Disney, MaxPass is an all-or-nothing proposition. Either you get it for each and every day, or you get it for none, in which case you must purchase it (at $15/day) each day you'll want it. After the promo period, however, there's no advantage to getting tickets early from Disney.

It is easy to buy on the day as others have mentioned, only call out is to make sure you have a payment option set up in the app or with your account, and you know your cvv code on the back of the card (save having to pull out of your wallet)

I would say, from personal experience, usually it is easy. But sometimes it is hard. As in sometimes it is glitchy and won't take the CC order. And you waste tons of time trying to get it to work.
