Our kids are still young so studios work for us most of the time when going to WDW. Plus, at WDW we are out and about and busy most of the time. We don't need a lot of space except for sleeping. I know that will change as our kids get older.

When we go to Hilton Head or Vero we prefer more space.

It wouldn't be worth being members if we had to stay in the studio accomodations. That is opinion only.

It absolutely is if you would otherwise be paying cash for deluxe rooms, unless you place a particularly high value on maid service.

I have a new "rule"....if we go for 4 or less days we are going to stay in a studio, if we go longer, we stay in a 1BR/2BR as is appropriate for our group.

That being said, we have only stayed in a studio which worked just fine for our family of 4....and we haven't been spoiled by a 1BR yet!!

Disney would cease to be our number 1 destination spot if we had to stay in a hotel room or a studio. We made the mistake several years ago of trading our points for several nights at the Poly. We hated it so much we forfeited our last day and left early.

We don't vacation anywhere now unless it is something similiar to the 1 br floorplan regardless of the cost.

Actually, that is my opinion as well. I purchased FULL SIZED DELUXE accommodations with DVC...not a hotel room, and that's how I view the studios.

That is because that is what they are. It is growing commonplace for hotels that cater to business travellers to have microwaves and refridgerators in their regular rooms. Many of the places I have stayed in the last 2 years have had them.

The only time we have stayed in a studio was because we were there for one night before our cruise.

I bought to stay once a year in a 1 bedroom.

But...we just can't seem to get enough of Disney!!! Plus, we've had friends and relatives invite us along on their adventures. Then...we found out how much we love annual passes.

So...it turns out...we go more often and stay in studios.

We've gone 3 times in 15 months!!! That's alot on 100 points!!

We could technically pack into a studio even though we are a family of 5 since dd3 is under three, but we get a 1bd. We have three kids ranging between 7y and 20m. Our youngest sleeps in a pack n play, so it is nice to have the big bathrooms to put her in to have her "own" room. Our older two sleep on the pull out in the living room.
We would probably be more comfortable in a 2bd, and when the kids are older we may bump up to that. It's just hard to use those extra points for the 2bds, when we still fit fine in a 1bd. We really love the new 1bds with the two baths. Having 4 people waiting to use 1 bathroom is no fun which is what we dealt with all last week at HH. Plus it would be nice for dh and I to be able to use the kitchen and living room after the kids are asleep.

Hopefully, we'll add on by the time dd is in a regular bed. We only have 210 points now so we have to be conservative with them which means we often stretch our trips with a couple of nights in a mod. It is no fun having all 5 of us in one of those rooms. Way to tight, but it's worth it to add on days to our trip.

6 days or more we like a 1 bedroom. Less than 6 days we'll take a studio.

We prefer a long and short trip each year.

We just added on mostly for the ability to get more space. DD is getting to that age where the idea of sharing sleeping space with her younger brother is about the worst idea in the world! :rotfl:

This is what we do, but hey I am spoiled, :lmao:

It's not a vacation to any of us, who work hard jobs with long hours if one of us has to sleep on a sofa bed.

My spouse works many 12 and 13 hour days and sometimes goes weeks without any time off.

So we go for space but we also stay 8 nights a couple of times a year.

Definitely more vacations than space for us! I got all the space I need at home! I don't spend enough time in the room on vaca to warrant the wasted points! But I LOVE having 14 nights of vaca per year!! :thumbsup2

So far it's more vacations for us ... but I suspect after a few too many studio visits it'll mean buying more points to we can have our 1BR and that same number of vacations too!

Studios suit us just fine and I do NOT view them as only a hotel room. We spend our days at the parks or at the pool and I am not about to cook anything more complicated than a bagel while on vacation so all I need is a toaster & a coffee pot. The microwave is handy too but I use the toaster more. Nor am I inclined to do laundry on vacation unless I absolutely have to. I think I did 1 load once at Vero (we were in an OVIR) and that was 'cuz we all got drenched on rides a lot more than anticipated at WDW before we went to Vero so we all changed clothes more than I planned for and we needed clean underwear!:rotfl: Anyway, having the kitchenette available is all we need. We would have to upgrade to a 2 bedroom in order to get DS off the sofa bed & we only have 250 pts. That doesn't cover a week in Magic season for a 2 bedroom (when we usually travel for our MAIN vaca). A 2 bedroom at SSR in July / August is 318 points while a studio is 123 pts. A 2 bedroom is not worth it to me just so that DS13 can have a real bed for 7 nights and so we can have a full kitchen & W/D that we don't even use. We look at it as 2 weeks of vaca VS not even 1 week. Oh, and we also probably wouldn't use the jacuzzi tub either - just not enough time in the room. Heck, we have a "garden tub" in our master bathroom at home that I've never used!! Not once! Lived here since 2000.

It really depends but for us the smallest we will go is a 1BR. We have a 2BR for April booked for just the 4 of us unless we decide to invite extras along with us.

This year we will have had 3 trips to Disney in 1BRs or more

January 4 days BWV 1BR
August 8 days BLT 2 BR Lakeview
Decembeer 4 days AKV 1 Br over Christmas.

So we have gone for a total of 16 days. I have a 2 year old so I really don't mind the Washer and dryer either.

We stayed in a studio one time and since then it has been 1 bedrooms for two and two for three or more. We bought sufficient points for the vacation we want (frequency, time of year and villa size)

Just wondering how everyone uses their points. Reading some of the trips reports I see that people go to disney 3, or 4 times a year but stay in a studio. We're a family of four and tend to do one big trip, but stay in a 2 bedroom because we LOVE the extra space. Do you have a preference?

We are a family of 4 and currently do two trips per year in studios. We are going to do an add-on for enough points for 2 trips per year in the 1 bedroom. So, for us, we want 2 vacations to WDW per year right now. And, as dds (8,6) get older, we will need the extra space.

well for us with having a family of 7 I would have to say the space over more trips.

Depends on who goes with us. Most of the time its a 1 or 2br. But if its just the 2 of us a studio will do.

Wow. I thought I'd be in the minority because we pick SPACE. We are a family of four and tried our 7 day trip in March 2010 in a studio (at BLT no less) and decided that at a minimum our family needs a 1 bedroom. An extended trip when we're all crammed together leads to too much stress and a cranky vacation...at least for our family.
