If its just the two of us, then a studio. If all five of us go, then definitely a one or two bedroom. Vacations should be relaxing, :).

Depends on who is traveling with us AND what we are doing on the trip.

We have booked 2 bedrooms at BWV for three years when 2 or 3 of our kids traveled with us with the addition of 1 friend, and extended our stay at either a 2 or 3 bedrrom at Wyndham Bonnet Creek.

When DH and I travel alone, it will be probably be at the BWV for Food and Wine festival. No kitchen needed when we focus on eating at EPCOT, and we won't stay longer than 6 days.

If we happen to travel alone together outside of Food and Wine, we will be at the Waldorf in a suite. I would rather hoard my DVC points for the family trips and splurge on the Waldorf and get pampered.

when by myself - then studio is just fine.

when with others either a 1-bedroom or just get another studio - just depends upon who it is.

Vacation, to me, is not cramming as many people into the smallest (least expensive) space possible, and being gone from dawn to midnight.

Vacation to me is having the space and the luxury to be comfortable and move around and not wait for bathroom time.

This is why the 5 of us have 900 points and go to Disney 3 times or more per year. We generally do 2 weeks in the summer and a 4 or 5 night in both the spring and fall.

:worship: YES YES YES........ I agree. We too are family of 5 however..WE only have 400 pts. :sad1:

When we bought in we bought enough points so that we could stay in a one bedroom for a week at just about any time of year. We've done studio stays for 1-2 nights but for me I enjoy the space a one bedroom gives. I also love having the washer/dryer in the unit so that I can go home with clean clothes.

I voted depends. We are only able to family vacation once every other year due to work/school/sports schedules. We do both then, more space and longer trips, but we give up that odd year.

:) It is just DH and I, no children. We do studios each year so we can take his Mom and my parents and they can have their own studio, too. I dread the 1 BR vist which may be in our future----I fell there will be no going back.

I like microwaves, can't wait to try the paper bag trick posted earlier. Of course the microwave popcorn PALES in comparison to Main Street Popcorn. Smellin it now. popcorn::

We have no children, and it's just the two of us, but our first stay was in a 1br and after that jacuzzi tub, it's really hard to do studios. I'll take a studio in CA, but not at WDW! I want my jacuzzi tub!

If it's just two of us, we book a studio, if we have kids then we book bigger. It all depends on how many people are going with us.

We love the extra space of a 1BR including the kitchen and washer/dryer. It's nice to be able to spread out in two rooms--so much more relaxing. We're enjoying slowing down our pace a little and spending more time in the room on our trips. For the four of us, a 1BR or more allows us to be comfortable and not on top of each other. When it's just DH and me on a short trip, a studio is fine although a 1BR would be nice.

Even though we love the space, I do feel a little wasteful when comparing the points of a studio to a 1BR. I've considered doing a split stay in the future (staying in a studio the first few nights and packing in the park time, then moving to a 1BR and slowing down) but I don't know how much we'd like moving mid-trip.

It's great that DVC gives the flexibility to pick what size of room works for each trip and each season of your life.

I voted "More Space." Our recent travel patterns look like this:
  • Dec '09 Treehouse: Perfect for two couples. A third couple was planning to join but we had a studio booked for them -- never had any intentions of putting more than 4 adults in the Treehouse.
  • Jan '10: A 2BR at BWV for just the two of us! That was grand ... we each had our own bathroom, closet and dressing areas.
  • Aug '10: II Exchange to New Orleans with another couple ... each with their own unit.
  • Oct '10: A Grand Villa for three couples. We were set with only two couples ... but a third has now been invited to join. This is causing some stress in the planning as I've recently read that the third bedroom offers only two full-sized beds not two queens. Arg!
  • Jan/Feb '11: Back to BWV for just the two of us ... this time in a 1BR unit. I'll miss having my own space, for sure!
Each of the above are full week stays. The longest I'd care to be in a studio is 2 nights - even alone. I really need the in-room laundry and certainly enjoy having the full kitchen.
